Painless Dentistry - Dentures

Painless Dentistry

Completely disorganized and lack of communication within the office…read more 1st visit I had with them back in October. Came in for tooth pain knowing that I'd most likely need it to be pulled. The doctor who came in to assess in, told me I should get a root canal because you can see it when I smile. Even though I said I didn't care and just need pain relief and would be fine with pulling it. He insisted on the root canal. I just went along with that because he obviously knows better than me. They send me up front get that scheduled, then they didn't have anything until Jan/feb in this office, but said they'd look into the Detroit office. (2 hours away, but I was okay if it got me in sooner.) They couldn't get into the Detroit office appointment calendar right then and told me they'd call. I didnt hear anything for a week. So I called and was never connected with anyone. 2nd visit in December , started off in the main office and then had to be taken to a waiting room across the hall. Finally after 20+ minutes of waiting, taken back for X-rays. The Tech (Rayna) was great. Then a doctor comes back to talk to me, gave her the same story from the 1st visit. Tooth ache, would rather just pull it but again insisted on root canal. I said I'd do that, if there was availability within the month. There was, so I was happy, ready to be done with this. Now yesterday (the day before my appointment) someone called from office " the doctor was looking over his case load and thinks you need to see a specialist because of where your roots are ." After that I'm done. This is something that should've been told to me prior to yesterday. Now I have to find a new dentist and probably wait another month to be seen.

Picked up my dentures! It was a long process, but it was worth it because the fit is great and now…read moreI can smile again!

Let me start by saying--I hate going to the dentist. It takes more mental preparation than running…read morea marathon. I need to hype myself up just to book the appointment, and then double that to actually show up. But, a friend recommended Derksen Dentistry, and after some extensive (read: borderline obsessive) research, I decided to take the plunge. I needed an advanced root canal and figured, why not throw in a cleaning while I'm at it? The first thing that set the tone was my call to Susan. She was so calming and reassuring that I felt like I was calling a life coach, not a dentist's office. She promised me they'd make my visit as relaxing as possible, which is a tall order when you're about to face down a drill and some sharp objects in your mouth. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted (on time, too, which felt like an anomaly in itself). The assistant was super helpful, constantly checking in with me during the x-rays, which was nice since I was pretty sure my mouth was about to go on strike from all the poking. Then came Dr. Derksen. Now, I'm not the type to buy into "auras" or anything, but this guy had an aura of, "Hey, I've got this. You can relax." I felt it. He triple-checked to make sure I was completely numb before starting the root canal--because apparently, "feeling your teeth getting drilled" is not on anyone's bucket list. The whole process went smoothly, and to my surprise, I didn't leave feeling like I'd just fought a battle with a power tool. What really sealed the deal was that they followed up the next day to check on me. I mean, where else do you get a dentist who cares enough to make sure you're not secretly plotting your revenge on him for the trauma? Long story short, I walked out of Derksen Dentistry with all my teeth intact and a new, surprisingly positive outlook on dental visits. Dr. Derksen, you've earned a lifetime patient... just maybe not a lifetime of root canals, please.

I will be totally honest, I am deathly scared of dentists and don't get me started on my last oral…read moresurgeon. However I finally found an establishment that knows how to help keep you calm and keep a smile on your face even when they are working on you. Not only did he tell me he would treat me like family but he kept his promise. I felt nothing it was over before I knew it. His assistants were amazing as well. Keeping me company while I was waiting for the numbing to kick in and even answering every question I had. I also want to add that later that night, I received a call from Doc making sure I was OK to answer any questions. I will not go anywhere else. Hands down amazing. Thanks again!!!

If you decide to question him about it he will accuse you of calling him a liar and refuse to talk further, he will even go as far as to make his nurses back him up (the $36 dollar procedure was because he said novacaine wouldn't work), he had his assistant say, when confronted with the discrepancy, "I gave you two shots of novacaine and it didn't work so your anesthesia was mandatory".. Have you ever had a novacaine shot and forgotten about it? Well I guess forgetting two is common... This is such an easy scam for him because what can you do, not pay the bill and have it go to collections? Its a small enough amount that one person would spend more than the bill to fight it but large enough that a few of these a week probably pays for his cottage up north. One star for Lansing Oral Surgery is being generous...
