Let me start by saying--I hate going to the dentist. It takes more mental preparation than running…read morea marathon. I need to hype myself up just to book the appointment, and then double that to actually show up. But, a friend recommended Derksen Dentistry, and after some extensive (read: borderline obsessive) research, I decided to take the plunge. I needed an advanced root canal and figured, why not throw in a cleaning while I'm at it? The first thing that set the tone was my call to Susan. She was so calming and reassuring that I felt like I was calling a life coach, not a dentist's office. She promised me they'd make my visit as relaxing as possible, which is a tall order when you're about to face down a drill and some sharp objects in your mouth. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted (on time, too, which felt like an anomaly in itself). The assistant was super helpful, constantly checking in with me during the x-rays, which was nice since I was pretty sure my mouth was about to go on strike from all the poking. Then came Dr. Derksen. Now, I'm not the type to buy into "auras" or anything, but this guy had an aura of, "Hey, I've got this. You can relax." I felt it. He triple-checked to make sure I was completely numb before starting the root canal--because apparently, "feeling your teeth getting drilled" is not on anyone's bucket list. The whole process went smoothly, and to my surprise, I didn't leave feeling like I'd just fought a battle with a power tool. What really sealed the deal was that they followed up the next day to check on me. I mean, where else do you get a dentist who cares enough to make sure you're not secretly plotting your revenge on him for the trauma? Long story short, I walked out of Derksen Dentistry with all my teeth intact and a new, surprisingly positive outlook on dental visits. Dr. Derksen, you've earned a lifetime patient... just maybe not a lifetime of root canals, please.

I am completely disappointed in one of the Dentist Offices in the Lansing Area named Orions Family…read moreDental Center and an employee named Jennifer Nicole Osborn. After picking up my wife from work in the downtown area at 1 pm on April 24th 2018, she decied to call Orion Family Dental Center and try and schedule an appointment for our daughter who called my wife from school with pain in her teeth and some type of infection or bubble. Due to the fact that my wife and I have a hard time getting a hold of the receptionist when we call to schedule appointments, we decied to go there and try and schedule a appointment for my daughter in person since it was an emergency in our eyes due to the bubble and possible infection. My wife Rita M, called the phone number all the way to the location on Saginaw st in Lansing, MI, after putting the phone on speaker we could both hear the phone ring and ring and ring and then go to a recording of the hours and operation. When we arrived the front door was open and we walked into the building. No one was sitting by the door or in the receptionist area and after waiting for 15 mins and saying "Hello, Anyone?" pretty loudly as to gain attention, I eventually opened the door to the back of the office and yelled very loudly, " Hello is anybody there?!". After yelling to get somebody's attention and closing the door, as well as, calling the office at the same time from my cell phone, the office manager Jennifer Nicole Osborn came to the door and was upset right away that me and my wife were there. She said "Yes? What are you doing?", we explained that we have been calling and we are trying to schedule an appointment for our daughter who has to see the dentist and it is important. She rudely said we are on lunch, and we explained that there are no signs or posted information of their schedule lunch time that was in plain view for us to see, and she said that they are on lunch but ill come around there and see what I can do. After i said, thank you very much, she shut the door and said "Seriously?? Thats Rude.", very loudly and with anger in her voice in a condescending and completely unprofessional and degrading way towards me and loud enough that the other employees could hear her in the back. I answer her by saying " Seriously, and I will tell you what is rude, having to call here for the last 30 mins to help my daughter with a problem she has with her teeth and when we get here and try and get some help and you are very rude..." As I was talking Jennifer Osborn cut me off from speaking and said " You know what, you can find somewhere else to go." I asked her if she was refusing my daughter medical attention to her teeth and she said "Yes." And I asked if she could do that and she said "Yes." I asked her what her name was and she very happly extended her hand to shake hands and with a very big smile, the first one she had the whole encounter, and said " I'm Jennifer.", after denying my daughter help with her medical issue with her teeth that was very serious but she never knew due to turning my daughter away based on the words i said to her. So i did not shake her hand and explained that I will be getting in touch with whoever I need to talk to, such as, my daughter insurance provider Delta Dental, The Better Business Bureau, The Owner of Orion Dentist Family Dental Center and Dentist Anti Fraud Hotline. This statement is my first step in making sure that Jennifer Nicole Osborn, the Office Manager at Orion Family Dental Center does not discriminate and hold prejudice against any other persons who need the help of the Dentist and have limited options due to insurance. Jennifer Nicole Osborn had no reason to deny my daughter medical care to her teeth besides the fact that I responded to her comments with my own comments and she did not like my comments and statements, which is discrimination towards me and my daughter due to confronting the hostility given by Orions office manager, Jennifer Nicole Osborn.

The Dentist is extremely kind and helpful, as well as the staff! They accept most insurances, and…read morethey schedule you ahead for all the work you need done on your teeth! I would recommend Orion to anyone who asks!
