    92. Sesame Chicken Dinner
    P T.

Looking for rude employees and owners, cheap, horrible food BUT a lot for cheap this is the place for you. It's not until you order $74 worth of to go food do they say bye bye thank you. They have general tso chicken, sesame chicken, less than mediocre. Lo Mein noodles, spaghetti noodles with onions and shrimp. The fried shrimp platter was decent sized shrimp and fried great.

Fried Shrimp Salad! Delicious and a good amount of protein.

The General Tso's Chicken Dinner Platter is so good. I ordered it on Waitr and got $5 off using code Local5!

Well, if you believe my mom's theory that anyone named Durand is related to us. To be fair, I have already found one actual relative using this exact logic, so who knows about ol' SMD. Anyway, this place is insanely popular, requires reservations, and there is a reason for that. The food is awesome. Gumbo? Awesome. Etouffee? Awesome. Steaks? Damn great. The pork chop? Hell yes. And then there is the Breaux Bread. Get away from me, Satan. That stuff is way too good. Like, lawd have mercy, why would you do this to me good. They also usually have live music on the weekends, often a solo singer, and every time we have been the music has been great. It adds to the whole atmosphere without taking over the room. The staff is super fun, the cocktails are great, they have a really good bourbon selection, and the wine list is better than you might expect. This is not some little place surviving because it happens to be in Breaux Bridge. Sydnie Mae is a legitimately great restaurant that would be great anywhere. If you find yourself in the Breaux, get to Sydnie Mae. And if anyone happens to know whether Sydnie Mae Durand is actually related to me, let me know. My mom is probably already convinced.

We opened the door and were greeted by the live music, we got a table quickly. I like the way they give you ice water in a large container that you can pour yourself. The appetizer we tried was the fried eggplant with lump crab, and it was excellent, definitely the best eggplant dish I've had. I went the chicken and waffles for the main, waffles crisp outside tender inside and sweet but not overly sweet. The chicken had a nice spicy kick, steen syrup would have put this over the top, but got regular syrup, however this was still very tasty. The star was definitely the omelette! Wow this was special light airy like a soufflé with lump crab meat so amazing and delicious, the addition of the biscuit with the strawberry syrup and the grits made this a complete experience, definitely recommend this. Great meal to start off the New Year.

Ambiance: 3/5 Parking is in front and next to the gas station. Once inside, there's table seating inside with ordering done at the front Restrooms could use an upgrade, but help get the job done. Food: 5/5 I looked over the menu and decided to try the Bayou Sampler. Comes with 2PC chicken (your choice dark or white meat or for extra cost can get mixed), red beans & rice, boudin link & biscuit. All had good flavor, except the biscuit, it was ok. Chicken wasn't greasy but moist with flavor. Red beans also very tasty and boudin link just as good. Service: 5/5 The counter server was friendly and so were the cooks, while it did take a while to get my food, it's cooked to order so that's understandable. Once I got my food, I wanted to take a photo and realized that my order was missing the chicken. Thankfully I had not left before checking it (rule of thumb for any to go order, check your food) The counter server was quick to speak to the kitchen and they brought out my full plate in short time.

We ordered the big family meal, which online states that it's $44.99 for 3 large entrees and 2 large sides, and 6 egg rolls for $10. We called and placed our order, the woman on the phone didn't mention the $6 up-charge for an entree with shrimp. The online menu says it's $2 extra for small entrees (we got large) or sides with shrimp (we didn't have a side with shrimp we got the bang bang shrimp as an entree we only got plain fried rice and noodles as our 2 sides). We get there to pay and it's $70! She then admits that the online menus/prices are wrong and the big family meal is $49.99 and there's a $6 up-charge for entrees with shrimp which should have been mentioned on the phone and is funny because the shrimp was the best thing we got. Our beef and broccoli was very watery for some reason but the general tso chicken isn't bad, better than the fried rice. Overall I really wouldn't spend my money here.
