I now have some continuity of care, after Dr. Seacord retired; and Dr. Larue moved to Hannibal, Missouri; and my doctor of record is Justin C. Hartupee, MD, PhD, as of February 2021. My first visit with Dr. Hartupee was in 2020, when he advised me that my children should get genetic testing. They have not done that, because their medical insurance doesn't cover that. Today, was an echocardiogram at 10:30 a.m., which lasted an hour. Who knew? I was breathing in, holding, letting it go. Moved to different positions for the same activity. THEN, I got an IV of some medicine that could detect trouble. More of breathing in, holding, letting it go. When that was completed, I saw Dr. Hatupee's fellow, Dr. King, from Washington University. He said I didn't seem to have any heart problems. After that discussion, I saw Dr. Hartupee. We had a conversation about getting out of breath, exercise and other appropriate exercises. We didn't talk about eating. That is probably NOT my problem. So, we will continue to encourage exercise.

I searched on-line at St. Lukes Hospital website and found a doctor who was taking new patients; getting an appointment for the first week of July. I duly showed up that day and upon entry to sign in and confirm I had arrived; I went to the counter to speak with the receptionist. My attention was quickly drawn to a series of grooves in the counter, presumably a design feature. My attention was drawn there because of the massive amount of grime in the grooves. IT WAS OBVIOUS the counter hadn't been cleaner in WEEKS, if not MONTHS. I took a picture; feel free to download it and throw up. My new primary care doctor (Kyle BRANSON) was pretty good, and I have no complaints with his care; such as it was. Needless to say, my visit included an order to visit a Quest Diagnostics lab for bloodwork; which I immediately arranged, and did attend, on the following Monday. So far so good. Unfortunately, due to issues with Quest's system, I was unable to obtain my blood work results. No biggie, I thought, I'll contact the hospital. Before I got a chance to do so, I received a letter that day, telling me Dr. BRANSON was leaving St. Lukes hospital. QUITE WHY I COULDN'T BE TOLD THIS AT THE TIME I MADE MY APPOINTMENT TO SEE HIM IS TOTALLY BEYOND ME - WHY WASTE MY TIME SETTING UP A NEW PRIMARY IF HE'S LEAVING ANYWAY!!! Anyway, I contacted St. Lukes again to inquire about my blood work to be told that they do in fact have the results, and they would leave a message with the physician; and to expect a call within the next twenty-four to 48 hours. It has now been six days and surprise, surprise, NOTHING. Methinks, it is time for me to seek greener pastures when it comes to my care; St. Lukes cannot be relied upon to provide appropriate care and services!!!!

Unlike many doctors, she practices what she preaches, being an accomplished runner and encouraging her patients to adopt a healthy plant-based whole foods diet. Although the diet she recommends is slightly different than the Mediterranean diet recommended by my own cardiologist (who publishes "The Skeptical Cardiologist" blog, primarily on nutrition), it is wonderful to see a doctor who uses their practice to encourage a healthy lifestyle to prevent disease rather than just treat disease once it is present. Too few doctors make the effort but all should in my opinion!
