Stopped in here to get gas, decided to try them out I've seen them before while coming back from our weekends In Glamis. My husband asked for a munedo and it was missing the corn . It was only half way full . I ordered a large one and they looks like I got a child's. Although it was tasty it's missing the corn and the large portion that you pay for. Undecided if I order her again.

Red Chilaquiles & a Mexican Coke

We've been here before & the last time I had the machaca burrito that was soo good but decided on the chilaquiles which were also delicious with refried beans & a fried egg couldn't go wrong with that! The workers were friendly & attentive to anything else may have needed when dropping off the food at our table.

When you live in the middle of no where your limited on where you can go for fast food. I have been putting off reviewing this place because it's decent. I normally get the chicken salad but change it up with the fried chicken plate sometimes. Today I decided to try the steak salad and let's just say I will never order it again. It's bad enough that usually the lettuce is sitting in water that has to be drained off especially if you're not going to eat it right away. As per usual I had to drain off the water but my biggest issue is the amount of fat and gristle they put on my salad. Clumps of fat mixed in with the salad is something I'm just not down with. Also it is just the pre-bagged iceberg mix. I'm not sure if they just have it floating in water and scoop it out and throw it strait in the container or what but be prepared to add paper towels or napkins to the container no matter which salad you choose and flip to drain, as well as there will be some turned lettuce you will need to pick out.

First time here this morning, great Chilaquiles plate, they were so good. The beans & eggs on the side were good too. My husband got a machaca burrito & said it was good as well, although smaller than most breakfast burritos. It's out of the way for us, but when in the area, I would definitely go back.

    Bacon Avocado Cheeseburger with fries!

Getting that late night craving, I decided to give Chelo's Burger a try. I got there at 8:40 PM and I did not realized that they closed at 9PM. Even though it was almost closing time, the employees still kept a smile and took my order and cooked it fresh and quick! My first time being here, I chose their Bacon Avocado Cheeseburger with fries. It came with bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, onions, thousand island dressin, cheese and one beef patty. Man, the burger was good and juicy! I enjoyed every bite of it! Good place to grab a nice and juicy burger. Hopefully ill be back soon to try more of their items on the menu!

Don't let its location fool you. I have eaten here several times and have not been disappointed. The country fried steak breakfast and the huevos ranchero are legit. The staff is nice and the service is quick.

Great asada burrito. I can't speak to the rest of the menu but the burrito was spot on. It was a tasty surprise and I'll be back again.

You have just been worked over at the Migra checkpoint and are getting hungry for lunch, Palm Springs now being too far away to make a run for. The sign says that Mecca is just a few miles ahead. You approach it with dread. Mecca turns out to be a Mexican town in the Sonoran Desert that just happens to be on the US side of the border. Not a gringo in the place. The town exists as a residential center for migrant agricultural labor that works in the huge latifundia surrounding Mecca, mostly picking sweet bell peppers. USDA approved signs are on the dorms. The stoop labor working out in the fields reminds you of antebellum Mississippi, except you can see that they are driving cars better than yours. There is not even a McDonald's in town, not even a Dairy Queen. Where are you going to eat? So we cruised the town (not much to cruise) and found Ofelia's Mexican Restaurant, a couple of blocks off the main road. Not much on the outside to recommend it, but it seemed a tad cleaner looking than the rest of town. What a find! The owner is a chilango, and his wife and children still live in the DF. We now realize that that is why we stopped there -- we had lived in the DF for 3 years, and this reminded us of the neighborhood spots we used to eat at.. He sports a county A for kitchen clenliness, and it was. Inside a few tables, but outside and hidden from the street a shaded seating area. Just the right temperature (at least in November). There was a printed menu, but not of much use. His clientele is almost all migrant labor, and he cooks to their regional tastes depending on what labor crew is in town that week. He had just made chiles rellenos, so we had that with the fixings. Delicious, light, real. The best beans and rice we have had for years -- with no later gaseous effects. Great home-made horchata and jamaica and tamarindo. (He does have a license, but offers only Corona and Bud Light, so bring your own if you can stand to drink alcohol in that heat). We felt like we had gone back to Mexico, not eating in a Cal-Mex place. Later, eating in the Palm Springs tourist joints, we realized that it might even be a good idea to drive back to Mecca for good Mexican food. It is that good. Try it.

The space was really nice, and the weather made it even better. We started with chips and guacamole, both of which were excellent. The chips were clearly made fresh, not the usual bagged stuff, and it showed. The aguas frescas were also made from scratch. We tried the horchata and jamaica, and both tasted incredibly fresh and so good. I even asked the owner to confirm, and he backed it up, our taste buds didn't lie. For our meals, we had the chicken tinga enchiladas, which were amazing, like something mom used to make. We also tried the veggie tacos, and they were just as good. The nopales were especially impressive. The service was extremely friendly, the food was great, and the location made the whole experience even better. Looking forward to coming back, thank you!

Service was amazing, so quick to come out with fresh chips and salsa (FRESH! as in they made the chips in-house... rare trait to come by these days IMO). Quantity of food was incredible. I can't speak for the menudo (dad got this) or for the 3 egg platter (not really sure why my mom got this) but $16 for a carne asada burrito as well as the beans, rice, and veggies on the side was such a steal. Especially in Anza Borrego. I would've thought it would maybe be more expensive since it probably costs a lot to bring out the best ingredients in the desert but somehow they have it all figured out. The carne asada burrito meat was top tier. Smoky flavor, soft with charred edges, so flavorful and overall the quantity of the burrito was way more than I was expecting. Lastly, I'm just so happy my dog got to sit outside with us. They have a shaded patio with a couple tables. I think other pet parents followed suit, as this seems to be a hit for dog-friendly spots here in Anza Borrego. I'd highly recommend. What a great find by me. Go me!!
