Such nice counter staff! I so appreciate that. They answered questions, gave good info and offered samples of things in which were interested. The food was good. I had the open face gyro and hubbie had chicken kabobs. The sides were good and interesting. FYI - The chiles were pretty hot as you bit into them but the heat quickly passed. read more

Chello Grill - Open face gyro and Naan, Some samples. - Mediterranean Near Me - Albuquerque, New Mexico

A Mediterranean restaurant with a new Mexican twist, this newer establishment joins other established Mediterranean eateries in the area. The ordering process is different, inspired by places like Chipotle, but the staff knows this and offered to help us out. You choose a combo, the pick a meat(I chose lamb, $4 up charge) & a side. You can also order a la carte of course. While your meat of choice is cooking, you choose a side. I had the green chile yogurt, which paired well with the fresh nan. The meat comes with vegetables & rice. For the price you get a good amount of food. The lamb was tender & tasty, but the veggies were over whelmed with a strong seasoning. The rice was good, but drier than I like. The decor was very nice, with polished presswood panels that gave it a contemporary feeling. read more

I have to admit I was a little disappointed with the food here as I had high expectations, (coming from a Middle Eastern background). Let me start off by saying it is very pricey for the amount of food you get and the taste was nothing to brag about. I might be biased because i prefer a more authentic setting and this seemed to be more industrialized and standardized. But for being both of those it is well designed for people who love that standardized feel to restaurants. I wouldn't eat here again unless I really had no other choice but it might just not be for me. read more

A friend and I went for an early dinner last night. I'd seen this place but never been and I am happy to say that I'll go back for sure. I ordered the open faced chicken sandwich with hummus on the side instead of the usual yogurt based sauce and it was just as good. I love Persian / middle eastern food anyway, but the flavors here are lovely. My friend got the big kebab plate and that was also fantastic! They give you your sides with the flat bread right away and then you wait for (what seemed like forever to me since they only had 1 table ahead of us) the main part of your order. It was worth the wait! They have flavored mixed iced teas and cucumber water & you can get that salty yogurt drink from Iran too. And naturally there are yummy sweets! read more

The tea, combos and salad are top notch! Service was great! They even gave me 2 large portion samples while I waited for my order. Highly recommend! read more

Very clean and quick but really good food. Staff was friendly and always cleaning and changing their gloves. Great stop on our way to Vegas. read more

The food is yummy but overpriced. This is the kind of place where you order at the counter, then find a seat or take it to go.

While you can order online, when you get around to eating in-house, the experience is still great. The wealth of options is great, so you might need a couple of times through to get your desires. We've done takeout a lot of times, and we still got lost. Unlike a lot of other places, combos don't come with drinks, and they may forget to ask you what you want to drink; their fancy teas don't come with refills, so I'm a fan of just getting regular teas. I'm partial to the lamb and chicken kebabs and the crispy rice. Koobideh is a good second option, and my girlfriend is partial to their baba ganoush. Their flatbreads are a lot crispier than other places, but they're still great with the hummus. You get PLENTY of food for your money, and the smaller tables won't fit the plates for two people! But tuck in, because it's all good! read more

Dropped by for lunch after reading about Chello Grill in the ABQ Journal Business Outlook. Very friendly staff. Excellent service. The drink bar is a nice touch. The chicken kabob, naan and the rice were awesome, but I did not like the flavor of the veggies. Will be back. read more

Been here several times. I'm really quite fond of the food! I love that it's a restaurant on Restaurant.com so it makes eating here half price or I don't think it would be worth the cost. Not only is Mediterranean absolutely delicious but I really love their unique sauces... Definitely worth trying them all at least once. read more

Super bummed. Tried this place tonight for date night and we were very unimpressed. The sides we got weren't bad, but the chilled soup was by far the most flavorful. The rice that came with the meat was also very nice, as was the naan we got. The kabobs however were flavorless and to our pallets, over done. It didn't even taste like they had salt or peppered them. The teas we got were however very good. Maybe we'll just go back for beverages. read more

I was in today for lunch for the first time and witnessed an employee yelling at another employee in front of everyone in the restaurant causing a scene. This made the whole place have very toxic and uneasy energy. Had to create a Yelp account just to post this review. I won't ever go back and I'm going to tell everyone I know to not go here. The food wasn't good and the experience was even worse. read more

This place is very unique. If you have not experienced it you have to go and experience it is a totally different culture. Not the fast-food burgers and fries that you used to but a piece of European culture. The food is good is cooked to your order is grilled the way you like it with the different toppings and size you have to see what it's right for your pellet but they will let you sample anything. So you can narrow down your perfect flavor. read more

Sooo I have a long one! Full details Family friendly Great food at a great price point Friendly staff Easy to read international menu Cleanliness Hipster Vibe (I love trendy places) In the past I have always struggled with eating more international food choices not only because the prices usually $20+ per plate, BUT I never understand what the heck I'm getting, none the less, I can't feed my infant or 8 months something off the mystery menu! The chello grille however has changed that for me! The staff made the assembly line ordering super easy. You can easy feed two people second combo for $11! And add that baclavah cheesecake as s cherry on top! I brought my 8month old with me and as anybody with kids knows, thy can be picky and messy creatures of nature! They had fruit cups, which was so perfect for my baby, as well as high chairs and a staff that was super understanding of the fruity mess my baby was making! Thank you Stacy for making me feel comfortable and not like bringing my baby was a burden! Seriously will be returning and bringing friends and family! read more

Our new favorite place for Middle Eastern food! Everything is fresh and delicious, great selection of soups (some I had never tried before). Falafel was yummy, the kabobs generous and tasty. We ate in and the atmosphere is casual and decor is trendy. Very nice and they have many glutton free oprions. read more

Came here to try their Mediterranean food. The place was very nicely decorated. The main dishes are the meats/veggies kabob with rice and a dipping(your choice) with naan. I thought the meats were bland, and it was salty (I'm not a fan of salty food). Their naan was very thin and over fried, which made it crispy rather than soft. There tea drinks were really good, so I recommend to try those. This place won't be my place to go often, but I'll be back to try their gyros. read more

A pleasant business that you find just out and about. The smell that hits you as the doors open is just the opener to a taste performance of epic proportions. It was super quick to get your food and the staff were able to cater a large group in the facility. The atmosphere was very modern and gave a welcoming air throughout the experience. The only flaw was that the staff forgot some things here and there, but at least they tried to make up for it toward the end. The experience may differ from diner to diner, however the amount of flavor will always be there when you want it! read more

I've had co-workers bring lunch from here a few times. It has always been delicious. Today I walked in for the first time. Immediately blow. Away by the aroma of fresh spiced deliciousness! I was tempted by everything but stick to my meal plan and got the salad with kabob...was not disappointed. Perfectly cooked fragrant chicken and crisp fresh veggies. Perfect. read more

This place made me feel so good. In every way possible they are excelling. The food is exciting . The enthusiasm by everyone who worked there was special. I am so eager to return and try everything. On my first visit I sampled 3 of the 5 stews and was amazed by the flavors. The lamb kabob was perfect. The saffron rice as fragrant and perfectly Persian as I have had. The cucumber water is a nice touch. read more

If you want good Iranian food for take out or eat in Chello Grill is the place. Good selection & helpful staff if one is not certain what the dishes are about. For us it was great since we lived in Iran 40+ years ago and it's not always easy to find Iranian cuisine in the area. No alcohol but we prefer to do take out & have wine at home. We split a koubedeh & chicken plate with saffron rice. Yum! Owner was also on site. Be adventurous & try the Chello Grill! read more

I'm a Lebanese woman that loves to cook, so it's very hard to impress me when it comes to Mediterranean food outside my home. This place was absolutely AMAZING!! The selection, service and overall quality blew me away. I loved loved loved all the dishes. And I got flashbacks to grandmas cooking with a few bites! This is the spot. The only regret I have is that I wish I stocked up for my road trip read more

Five stars because good food is what it all about. When first walking in I was not sure what to expect as this is not your dimly lit "feel good f the old country" middle eastern joint. Modern appointments and well lit with some deco style art. Comfy chairs and real wood tables and you order at the counter give it almost a cafeteria feel. Then the food comes and you are getting the real thing. I had some pickled garlic, wow! Kabobs, one lamb and one beef (koonideh), good good good. read more

Where do I start? I got feta fries which were awesome and crispy! I also got the chicken lunch and it was superb! A few vegetables would of been nice but it did come with a small side salad so...but honestly I will be a returning customer due to the fact of the exceptional customer service! It was such of breath of fresh air to come across such cheerful, helpful and assistive employee's here! Stacy being one who was awesome today for lunch and such a positive outgoing demeanor. Chello grilled scored in her. Thank you for the quality food and service chello grill. I will be returning and will post pictures of my food to update this review read more

I am, by no means, an expert in Mediterranean food. I would venture to guess, after having take away from Chello Grill for the first time, they are not either. The theme of the night was dry, with a side of bland. The chicken, while having an incredible flavor profile, was exceptionally dry. The "saffron" rice was probably one of the most bland, and dry, versions I have ever had. The Tah Chin, was their saffron rice (held together with something) and fried. Which turned it into something that could have been used to build an adobe home. The koobideh was dry and tough. I would love to say the vegetables were the saving grace of this meal, but unfortunately, we never got them. I used plain yogurt, drizzled with garlic olive oil to add flavor and moisture to the meal, which made it palatable. The desserts...I think they were supposed to be desserts. There were several pieces of burnt bread-like substance drizzled with (I'm assuming) a syrup of some kind. There were also a few dried dates, stuffed with almond meal and topped with coconut. Again...very, very dry. I live in the desert. I don't really want to eat it. read more

Food was great. Price is reasonable. Veriety was good. Bread is so fresh that we reordered more bread. I highly recommend this place.

We have gotten food here many times and it is always great. This time we got the traditional Gyro open sandwich and it was a great as always. The service was fast and friendly. read more

The staffs were super friendly. The place was clean and inviting. Great for families. I had the onion beef and regular beef. My husband had chicken. All dishes comes with veggies, rice, and two sides. I loved the eggplant. Everything was great. The only thing I would have changed would be the nan. I would have been nice if it was softer, but what do I know...maybe it is suppose to be a little crispy. Overall, we loved it! Will be back and already started telling our friends. read more

Great food full of flavor and with a flair of exotic! Delightful bright and inviting dining room full of color. I had the chicken kabob on the lunch special for $8.99. It was far more food than expected and was a great value. I indulged in a nut roll and it was perfect. I can;t wait to come back! read more

Chello Grill is pretty much a textbook example of a fast-food Mediterranean joint. You walk in, take in the wall-mounted menu, order your food, then either take a number and sit wherever you like, or take it to-go, with a self-service condiment bar sitting on the side if you'd like to add additional spices to your meal. The interior is pretty much what you'd expect. It's brightly lit, with soft pastel colors and your choice of standard or high tables for seating, complete with hard back chairs or barstools depending on your elevation. It was also very clean, which is always a plus in a keep-them-moving type of joint such as this. The menu is nice and simple, as it should be. It mainly pivots around 3 different combos, which come with your choice of 1-3 kabobs, depending on your hunger level. All of the combos come with standard sides, including naan bread, rice, veggies, and choosable sides. There's a good selection of kabobs, ranging from the usual lamb/chicken offerings and going to salmon and veggie types. A pretty wide assortment of stews is what initially caught my interest when I looked this place up, and the Karafs (celery) stew that I settled on was pretty yummy, containing a nice mixture of mint, parsley, and lime that would be perfect for a winter's day. The choosable sides consist mostly of various dips, and all the ones I tried did the job just fine, though none of them stood out as amazing. I do have to say, however, that I applaud them for adding a green chile yogurt to their menu. You just can't go wrong with green chile items in ABQ. The kabobs were pretty standard as well. I tried the lamb, chicken, and salmon types, and they were all competent, with a decent amount of flavor and juiciness, for which I was thankful. Nothing sadder than a dry kabob. Again, nothing hit me over the head with flavor, but if you're looking for perfectly serviceable kabobs, this place fits the bill. The only negative spot was the naan. It was very flat, very dry (even for naan), and kind of powdery in a way. It was also (again, even for naan), kind of tasteless. I would guess that it's some sort of mass-produced variety, though I could be mistaken, but it was the one thing I would definitely not get extras of again, unless I just happened to get a bad batch or something. For a grab and go type of place, Chello Grill does a competent job of providing a safe Mediterranean experience. If I lived close by to it, I could see it being added to the rotation of take-out places that I go to when I just want to grab something and sit on my couch at home. read more

I think I've found a new favorite place!! First time customer with absolutely no knowledge of Persian food. I know the basic Kabob but not much else. This visit was a new tasting experience that was very delightful. I had the chicken kabob with saffron rice and grilled veggies. Tasty and fresh. The side dish of beef and lentil soup was also tasty and a new favorite taste that, frankly, I would have been happy with a full bowl of that alone. The teas were fresh and made to order. The naan was a tad dry and powdery but everything else was great. The menu was a bit overwhelming for a rube like me but the gal at the counter was beyond helpful and spent a considerable amount of time w/suggestions and samples. Going to visit again and try something different! read more

This is my third visit since they have opened. And I am as delighted as I was the first time. Great food reasonably priced. Their rice (chello) is fluffy and delicious and I have tried their chicken Kabob and their koobideh (ground beef) Kabob and loved both. Their yogurt sides are very good. They have added a daily stew served over saffron rice. Definitely ask for a sample to taste. read more
