But then you wake up the following morning with a pounding head and a resolution to never drink again... Well, my friends and I had one of those nights... and woke up a bit worse for wear on Sunday. However Pedler managed to save us. Pedler Brunch joy: - The boys tried the massive breakfast which included everything (bacon, beans, eggs, little gin sausage, mushroom and amazing maple-butter toast.) It was so huge that Marc lets me try some...I have to admit the maple butter toast was the highlight for me, but the sausage was gorgeous too.) - My friend tried the beans on toast (they looked amaaazing) - I tried duck on rosti with perfect poached eggs. Every single bite was looovely. We were sufficiently full of energy to contemplate heading into central London to finish off our Christmas shopping. So, thank you Pedler!! *Apparently they also have amazing gin cocktails as their sister company is little bird gin...but I couldn't even contemplate alcohol on Sunday morning.

After departing the overground at Peckham Rye and being thrust into an absolutely cacophony of sound, sights and people on Rye Road -- I had no idea where this little Pedler gem might be hiding. Is it in this fish market? What about piled up behind these bushels of yuca? Are those pigs hooves? Chicken heads? Ears of some unknown animal? Honestly, if you want to feel transported to another world, pop off the train at Peckham and go for a nosy. Regardless we finally found our way to Pedlar to meet some dear friends. They'd just had a new baby, we had our toddler in tow and we were all excited to catch up and enjoy a meal together. Until I saw Pedlar and its quaint and tiny little space jammed to the gills on a Sunday afternoon. "Oh no" I thought, we are going to have to go eat somewhere else. There is NO way we are getting in here with these babies without crushing someone, them, or being shamed on to the street by hipsters. (I like hipsters by the way, so this is not meant to be offensive, I probably shamed a parent or too in my youth as well!). But I shan't have worried! We DID have a booking (kudos to our friend) and the day was saved. The buggies did need to be broken down and stored downstairs -- which would have been fine had I not timed this entire operation perfectly down to the minute to have mine sleeping through brunch -- only to be awoken upon the breakdown process. Sigh, so Peppa Pig and the Pedlar, that's how he did his brunch (don't judge me! I needed this!). Anyway, tl:dr the guys were really accommodating despite not being terribly child-friendly, and I really appreciated that immensely. We then took up the beautiful booth with plenty of room for everyone, ordered a round of cocktails (the Bloody Mary and Gin &Tonic were gorgeous ways to start), a smattering of Sunday roasts and pickles and were on our merry way to an absolutely excellent meal. Beef, lamb, puddings, cocktails, more wine, it was all on point and truly enjoyable. The place was stuffed each and every moment we were there, but we were never rushed and thus kept ordering and enjoying and finally once Peppa was no longer able to hold my son's attention we departed full and happy and full of Sunday sweetness. I won't be taking my child back here for my own sake of enjoyment, but I'd love to come back with friends or on a date. It's got a great, cozy vibe with well curated menu and drinks, friendly staff and they are clearly doing many thing right over here. £160 split by 2 couples seemed well priced as well -- where in Central London do you ever get the pleasure of a £6 cocktail? Nowhere, so best travel down here and check it out. *service is not included in the bill, so consider adding some if applicable. *MAKE A BOOKING.

It was heaving, and when the tables are so closely packed together as to make you wonder which person is actually your date, it ends up being pretty claustrophobic. Plus there seemed to be an entire rugby team gathered round the table behind us, which made our conversation absolutely impossible. Due to the place being packed out with severely limited room for the wait staff to get to us, we were horribly neglected service-wise. One very nice chap was great for the first ten minutes, but after that we literally had to shout 'excuse me' over several couples when someone got within hearing distance - usually to rush on either without hearing or without wanting to hear. The food was also below par - I did have four very nice oysters to start with, but my lamb wasn't terribly flavourful and the spiced aubergine it was sitting on didn't work for me. My side of Savoy cabbage was cooked in such a way as to mean I had to chew each mouthful for a full minute before I could swallow. My dining companion's Glamorgan sausage to start was alright (nothing special) and they described their asparagus main as "a dish that a meat-eater would invent for a vegetarian without actually trying it". The pudding of cinnamon chocolate parfait was lovely and we ate every scrap. To their credit they took the Savoy cabbage off of the bill, but it was still fairly substantial for the rather uncomfortable and unsatisfying experience we had had. I may go back and try it on a less busy night, just to see if they can function better when not stretched to breaking point.

I'm not entirely sure why this is being called Franklins Pub…read more It does have a pub / bar area at the front and seating outside n the street, and though a good place for a few drinks, nice lager on tap and good wine selection, but the place is really more of a restaurant, I'd be hard pressed to call it a pub. Anyway, it's small and intimate, very much a neighbourhood restaurant. The food is of the St Johns 'nose-to-tail' style so great for carnivores. There will be one vegetarian dish so if it's not to your liking as a veggie then choice will be very limited (though the cheese selection is fab). The quality of the food is why you go though; I've very rarely had anything that wasn't superb from stalwarts like the steak to more adventurous game dishes or sweetbreads. Like anywhere it can have the odd day when a dish has been merely competent and delicious as opposed to the usual excellence. The service is also good and strikes a good balance between formal and friendly. Wine list is excellent, talking of which I marked it £££, but if you're tempted down list from the 3-4 (of each colour) house type wines it will quickly become a ££££ (there's a great Margaux, a steal at £45,half price you'll find it anywhere up town). I've been going for the best part of a decade and it remains not only a local favourite for me but has trumped many a pricier option in town. Definitely worth a try.

We were here for the breakfast and three of us ordered off the menu, and two of us just had to be fussy and order various items individually. They catered to every wish! The coffee was fantastic and they even had skimmed milk (YEY!) I had the English breakfast with poached eggs, and apart from some hollandaise sauce that appeared on my eggs (I don't like hollandaise sauce!) it was all very yummy. The mushrooms were cooked with rosemary and the cumberland sausage was delicious. I was not keen on the bacon, but that's probably because it was smoked and I'm not a fan of food tasting like sweet smoke. My fellow breakfastarians between them tried the Eggs Special Royal (to celebrate our new princess!) which was apparently delicious, but came with cold avocado under the egg, which made the temperature of the whole dish a little odd. There were no other complaints though and we all agreed to go back very soon. Lovely place!

It was very busy when I arrived and I was unsure as to whether I should sit straight down or order at the bar - but after asking a friendly member of staff, I made myself comfortable with a menu. I opted for the Full English and a white Americano off of the Brunch menu. My food turned up before my coffee but I wasn't too fussed - I could sympathise with the busy staff having worked in hospitality for many years myself. Both the breakfast and coffee were lovely and good value for money. Afterwards, I ordered a Bloody Mary to take the edge off and oh my Gosh, it was hands-down the best Bloody Mary I have ever tasted. The waiter asked me what spice I'd like and as a bit of a wimp, I opted for a 3 out of 10 and it was absolutely perfect - garnished with green olives, celery, a lemon wedge and a sprinkle of pepper. Divine! I stayed at The Gantry for the majority of my day working and therefore spoke with the staff a few times. I enquired as to a nearby plug and the waiter found me one behind an armchair and plugged my charger in for me as well - very kind! Overall, I'd highly recommend it but would opt to come when it's a bit less hectic next time. I will definitely be returning!

The establishment has a nice mixture of cozy and airy, which was perfect for a lazy(ish) Sunday. I hate to use this word, but I'll use it anyway (because I can't think of a better descriptor): the service here is "super" friendly, and very knowledgeable, particularly regarding the ales on tap. The barkeep gave us a few sample pours without waiting for us to ask, which we greatly appreciated. Because of that, we were more than happy with the pints we ordered. Moving on to the food: the roasts were delicious, in particular the pork loin, which was moist and flavorful. I enjoyed my roast beef as well. The Yorkshire pudding was wonderful and I might have been just as happy eating that alone for my meal, to be honest. The pub is in walking distance of the touristy areas of Greenwich, so it's easy enough to put some good food in your belly and continue on to your sightseeing, afterward.

MENU CONFUSION Website sample menus indicate available options of a tasting menu (costs 45 pounds) AND separate entree plates. However, on our Thursday visit, the only menu was tasting which we did not have the time for nor did we want that much food. The saving grace, when we explained to our nice server, was that they would let us pick and choose from the tasting menu and charge us accordingly. So that was a win. 2. FOOD I chose 3 starter courses only and the amount of food was fine for what I wanted. The scallop dish was very nice, the other two not so much. The mushroom dish was an ugly unidentifiable lump of black that had been literally drowned in soy sauce. The only taste was soy sauce. VILE. My last starter was charred leek with a large amount of a slightly bitter peanut sauce and, like the mushroom dish, the sauce totally overpowered the delicate leek. Three of my dining partners ordered the lamb entree which was nicely presented. However, they weren't asked what temperature they would like but all 3 plates came with different degrees of doneness. No consistency. Finally, I would expect bread service here but none was to be found.

Two delicate corn tortillas are stuffed with a dollop of spiced, incredibly flavorful pumpkin mole and goat cheese. I got two orders I loved them so much. Even my carnivore husband praised them. Now that says something! I also got the coal-roasted cauliflower and it was very good though not as mind-blowing as the tacos. The miso bagna cauda (made vegan without the usual anchovies) was delicate but also gave the hefty cauliflower a lovely lemony flavour. My husband thought the ox cheek was incredible and got the Peckham Fatboy as a side. Cons: The prices are pretty steep for some the portions; I mean £14 for the ox cheek with no sides included? That's just stingy. Also the waiters have tunnel vision: setting up a nearby table or bustling around ignorant of customers like us needing extra water or ordering another plate. I notice this all over London and as a native New Yorker it's SO FRUSTRATING bc I don't understand how NY servers can multitask but London servers seem incapable of doing so. Finally, it's quite loud in the restaurant and smells heavily of food so you'll walk out reeking.
