The Cambridge branch of EAT., located at the start of the pedestrianised area of the city centre, is arranged over two levels: downstairs is the main counter, the fridges displaying sandwiches, salads, desserts and drinks for sale as well as some seating both inside and out of doors, while upstairs houses some more tables as well as more comfortable seating and the customer toilets (there is no lift). It is usually quite busy, but service is quick and amazingly I have always found a seat upstairs.
To start the day there is a breakfast menu served until 11 am offering porridge and bacon butties amongst other things as well as a wide variety of hot drinks which are freshly brewed throughout the day.
At lunchtime there's a wide selection of sandwiches, salads, pannini, hot pies and a choice of two freshly prepared soups - one usually a blended vegetable soup and the other a more adventurous creation that often contains noodles. Make sure you leave room for dessert, from fruit salad to cake there's bound to be something that tickles your fancy!
EAT. prides itself on its fresh seasonal food and the menu changes regularly during the year - it's published online, together with excellent nutritional info. Vegetarians are well catered for. read more
