Black & White Cookie

It's criminal that I've lived in the area for years and a random lunch break is what warranted my first trip to Cheese Plus. I ordered a Funky Chicken sandwich, without bacon, they kindly subbed with more chicken and I also ordered a black and white cookie on the side. I couldn't get enough and Cheese Plus has gained another neighborhood regular, I look forward to trying more of the menu on my next visit.

My brother told me that we had to get sandwiches at Cheese Plus and that the Funky Chicken is the best sandwich he's ever had. So expectations were high! Fortunately Cheese Plus blew it out of the park. We split a Funky Chicken and a Willie Brown Bird and both were amazing. The Funky Chicken is super creamy and savory and the aioli perfectly balances the creaminess. I would agree that it is the best sandwich I've ever had! The Willie Brown Bird is an awesome sandwich too and I was amazed at how many toppings were inside. It truly feels like each ingredient is specifically chosen to create a masterpiece of a sandwich. I'd definitely come back here again in the future and will be dreaming of these sandwiches until my return.

This updated review is only for their sandwiches. I really do still love their cheese shop, but really just didn't care for their sandwich shop. We walked by last weekend while heading to Bi-Rite, and there were several people eating sandwiches here, and they all looked like happy customers with delicious looking sandwiches! The pictures on Yelp looked great, and we've always been big fans of Cheese Plus. Finally we gave it a go. I tried the Chrissy Fields sandwich (Oven Roasted Turkey, Bacon, Provolone, Fresh Tomato, Arugula & Housemade Roasted Tomato Aioli served on Soft Baguette), which I thought was a decently average sandwich, nothing horrible, definitely edible, but nothing exciting or mind blowing. I also prefer my sandwiches to be toasted - perhaps I should have asked? Not sure if that was even an option. I just really get bummed out when I eat regular bread with a sandwich - I feel like the bread must be toasted. My husband got the North Beach (Niman Ranch Smoked Ham, Pistachio Mortadella, Genoa Salame, Provolone, Sweet Peppadew Peppers, Leaf Lettuce, Fresh Tomato, Mayo & Spicy Dijon Mustard. Served on Focaccia), which he also thought was decent, although not his favorite sandwich. We also got a bowl of the chili and beans with cheese and onion, which was decent too. The ambiance here could be fun, and looks fun, but wasn't fun for me. It's an open parklet seating, which is first come first serve, and it was quite packed when we went right before noon on a Saturday. We were lucky to snag the last table. All the tables are tiny, and the chairs were uncomfortable metal patio type ones that kind of hurt to sit on. There was also barely any room to put other stuff, which could be annoying like in my situation where we had a baby plus diaper bag. Also half the seats were in the sun, the other half were shaded - could be annoying given your preference of sitting in the sun or wanting shade. It was also somewhat windy today, and thus everything, all the wrappers, receipt, napkins, were flying all over the place. Sigh. I think maybe perhaps I'm just becoming that old person that's starting to get so particular and irritated about things. But I can't help but think about all the other meals we could have enjoyed on a Saturday for lunch. I'm glad to have tried the Cheese Plus sandwich shop, but I won't be dining here again.

Caprese sandwich

Cheese Plus is a local staple, with both a store for everything you would need for charcuterie-like arrangements (for when you have more time to prepare it instead of grabbing a pre-made one from Costco... or just really like the people you're hosting) and it's also a fantastic sandwich shop, all in one. Also a great place to bring friends to so they can grab/make their own sandwiches before heading ot whatever picnic area you decided on. Staff here is always friendly and they do get busy sometimes, but the food is well priced and fresh every time. You can't go wrong with the sandwiches here and it's one of my top 5 sandwich spots in San Francisco. Interior is like a cramped convenience store, but has a small butcher and huge amount cheeses. Modest wine and misc things to go with everything. I went during their 20th anniversary celebration and got the caprese sandwich. Excellent layering of tomatoes, cheese, and the perfect amount of oil: enough that you have some moisture in the sandwich but not enough that it runs out into the wrapper or leaks on your hands.

asked for a refund

I've been coming here for lunch for about five years, and today was easily the worst experience I've ever had. I ordered a simple sandwich and a coffee--nothing complicated. When my coffee came, I politely asked for a little honey on the side. The staff member told me it would cost $0.85 just for honey with my coffee, which already felt ridiculous. Then it got worse. I asked if the sauce for my sandwich could be put on the side, and they said they would charge me extra for that too. At that point it felt like they were trying to charge for every tiny thing. What makes it even more frustrating is that I had already left a $5 tip, expecting at least basic courtesy. Instead, the interaction felt petty and unfriendly over something as small as honey and sandwich sauce. I ended up asking for a refund rather than dealing with the constant up-charges. After five years of coming here regularly for lunch, it's really disappointing to be treated this way. Nickel-and-diming customers while providing poor service is not a good look. I won't be coming back.

There is a place which has lots of cheese available in the Polk Gulch of San Francisco .Cheese Plus has lots of varieties of cheese and also a descent selection of wine to pair with the cheese. There is also a deli which offers lots of different sandwiches with many different cheese selections. There is also an outdoor cafe which offers coffee , expressos, and lattes. Cheese Plus is a cheese must if you want to add cheese to your wine in SF. This is a place where they have great cheese to grate A place to assemble your own customized cheese plate

This is a unique corner market with a fantastic selection of specialty items. I could shop here all the time. They're friendly and honest. It's just that the deli is pricey. Salads and sides are really more than they're worth and not delicious.

Review #859 Posted on 2.17.25 We came to Cheese Plus after dinner on Saturday 15th while in town for Valentine's weekend in the City. This spot is located near the corner of Pacific/Polk St. They've got a ton of take home items inside, and an Expresso/sandwich shop/window outside with places to eat as well. The sandwiches look phenomenal, next time I come to this area I'll grab a sandwich to go, along with some cheese, & jelly to go.

Some of my favorite sandwiches in SF! I also recommend the tiramisu cold brew. They offer grab-and-go food and unique, well-curated cheeses, chocolates, and other cooking ingredients. This is a great neighborhood hub that hosts local artisans and creators. I found some great gifts at their Artisan food festival. Staff is very thoughtful, helpful, and kind. I always find something when I go in!

This colorful corner cheese shop caught my eye. Once inside, you'll see all kinds of specialty foods from cheeses to jams to a great selections of wines, even Asian-inspired beef jerkeys. I bought a bottle of Lucky Dog chili sauce for my friends abroad to spice them up. This place has samples of cheese and spreads worth tasting, because they're delicious. Staff here are eager to help. From the outside, you can order sandwiches, eating al fresco, while watching people and pigeons go by.

This is the ultimate one-stop shop for sandwiches, charcuterie boards, and picnic neccesities! My go-to is the Willie Brown Bird sandwich. Each bite is a yummy mix of savory (duck), salty (provolone), sweet (fig chutney and tomato), peppery (arugula), acidic (pickled onions) and crunch (grilled bread.)  Although the sandwich seems to have gotten smaller, it still hits the spot every time. Definitely worth the 10 to 20 minute wait. Their customer service never disappoints. Workers are always relaxed and friendly. They once forgot the duck in my sandwich, and happily remade an entirely new one for me, free of charge.  You can find this little corner deli market in the charming neighborhood of Russian Hill. Will be back soon!

Well I'll be damned, a top tier sandwich spot has been under my nose this whole time. This is just proof it's hard to eat all the sandwiches. But I swear I'm gonna try. Cheese plus is making a statement about the sandwich game. Let me tell you more... We live in a sandwich society that is enamored with meats, sauces and portions. I've said it before about bread. Bread is an underrated way to elevate your sandwich in a way that is often overlooked. BUT, I did not think about cheese being able to elevate a sandwich to such lofty heights like cheese plus has done here. We are talking about an embarrassing amount of protein here but I won't hold it against them. The brie, the spread, the chicken and the bacon was like a tasty symphony in my mouth. Everything was connected here. You could tell these ingredients always wanted to be friends. The cheese on this funky chicken was a real power move and it paid off. An even more power-ish move is that I took my other half home and put it in the air fryer. Omg, it was even better. I want to continue to try all of their sandwiches but we are off to a great start. Can you throw a little extra meat on here for your guy next time? Other than that tremendous work. See you soon. (4.7 Stars)

The day I went, the brunch focaccia was an artichokes, salsa verde, sundried tomatoes, red onion, arugula, and pepper jack focaccia that day, and it was delicious! they grill it fresh in front of you (takes about 5 minutes), and I'd recommend eating it as soon as possible for the best experience. The focaccia is so light and airy with the crispy crust, and their ingredients are so high quality with a symphony of flavors. Would definitely come back again for this, maybe to also try their paninis!
