I went here as a last resort after checking out a few other places that do the same thing. I went into Frontera in Oxnard and it was an embarrassing nightmare. They wanted so much information and then ran my credit and then denied me. It was awful. Out of desperation, I tried one more....It was so easy. They treated me like a customer and not a beggar. They didn't need that much information and it was cut and dry, we give you money and you pay us back. I was so glad that I went there and even though it was for a one time need.....I would use it again if I had to and I would definitely recommend them to anyone that needed it. read more

Been here few times but years ago and don't recall how service was. Went today with my elderly mother and Sandra was so sweet !! She was so patient with my mom and very sweet with her and engaging conversation, made it very comfortable and friendly and FAST. Definitely see why they always get great reviews !! Highly recommend. I went in with a $600.25 check written by the State of California Angela took 40 minutes examining the check worrying about rounded corners and square corners and calling a District manager Natalie. I had given here 2 forms of state issued i.d. and a social security card. At the end she rudely told me she thought the check was a fraud and refused to cash it. 40 MINUTES!!!!!! I went to a friend's bank 10 minutes later and it was cashed with a state ID and 2 minutes of time. I would recommend going anywhere else but Checkmate. read more

Walked in and and received instant discrimination before i could even say why i was there.. because i really needed it i tried to get a registration loan anyway but to no surprise the second he asked for my documents he first stated my bank dont qualify even tho it was accepted online then when i offered to use a different bank he just tells me he refuses to help me because having two back accounts is a sign of fraud . Horrible. These guys refuse to assist you if you are unable to pay your payday loan back on time due to unforeseen circumstances. It happens. I even called days ahead to let them know. They did not care. An extension would not have killed them, they would still get their money and it would have helped me. Now I am in an even bigger hole. I do not recommend this place! read more

I started going to this place since 2005 when it was the Dollar Smart and its really sad to see the customer service drop so significantly, must be the management. I usually go to this place to get money orders and once in awhile to cash my check. About month ago I went by to grab a money order at 8 am when they are suppose to be open but they did not open until about 15 minutes after, which I typically wouldn't complain about. However when I finally got the chance to grab my money order the manager(Natalie.T) stated she "didn't have room to take my change" which I found weird considering this a check cashing place and she just opened. So I stated to her that if she didn't take my change I would go else where so she toke the change, I thought maybe she was just having a bad day so I just let it go and decided to give them another chance. On Sunday 11/12/2017 I went into cash my check because it was a Sunday and the bank was closed. When I cashed it they charged me $19.86 to cash my check which I was fine with considering the bank was closed. However when I asked for $60 in $5s and $20 in $1s the young lady (April) who was the clerk at the time refused to give me the cash I wanted. I then asked to speak to the manager(Natalie .T) who came in rolling her eyes and also refused to give me what I asked for.Not only did they refuse to give me what I wanted but the miscounted my cash twice and almost shorted me, thank goodness I recounted it before I left or I would have been short $10 SMH.I mean I am a paying customer and didn't even get what I wanted after paying a large fee, what happen to making sure the customer is happy.I will NEVER go there again because not only did they not give me what I paid for but also just had a bad attitude. The owner of this business should be very proud of the management. I will make sure to let all my friends,family, and clients know to not go to this place just because of the terrible service/bad attitude. read more
