I did not know where to start, as I had not had to hire someone for this type of damage. Mr Handyman's information along with 3 other companies, cane from Angie's List. I had 4 texts from 4 potential candidates. I had sent a return text requesting a calls to discuss the damage done. I received no communication with 2 out of the 4. Never heard from those last 2. It was quick to contact Mr Handyman and set up a time for evaluation of the damage and get a written bid. There was an $80.00 fee for an in-depth inspection of the damage as well as specific calculations of the damage for them to adequately determine the total space needing repair. Setting an appointment was very quick and thorough evaluation done with written specifications as well as photos. Mr Handyman's prompt response to start in a few days and the time was excellent. The contractor, John Kumpff, explained in detail what he was going to doing over the among of time he expected to need to complete. He actually was able to repair all areas one day less than planned. We paid him tens of thousands of dollars for 2 outdoor projects (2 separate contracts) earlier this year. One of the projects he was paid in full for & he neither purchased materials for the job nor completed any of the work. The other project, which was the much more expensive project, he took thousands of dollars from us & then failed to continue to show up. Then after we paid him tens of thousands of dollars, he told us he underbid the project & tried to extort more money from us or he stated he would not come back. We compensated him with extra money during the project for additional work & this still was not enough. Please do not hire this guy or you will find yourselves in the same situation we are in. We trusted the wrong person & he stole thousands of dollars from us. If you elect to hire him, you may find yourself in the same position. Whatever you do, DO NOT PAY HIM UP FRONT. He will take your money & you will never see him again. He painted the family room and the stair well over the staircase which looks really good also. I just hired him again to paint all the woodwork in my hallway (doors, doorframes and baseboard) and some more painting (bathroom ceiling and hallway) - again I am very happy with the work.
