I really pride this location on their customer service so it was much to my disappointment the other day at the poor service that I received. My pal decided to drop by for a late night bite before heading into the house for the evening. If you don't know when you go through the drive through at this location the AI takes your order. Typically this isn't a problem despite my disdain for the environmental impacts of Ai usage. But that's another conversation for another day. I wanted to order a medium fry, hi-c, and funnel cake fries. So I was flabbergasted when I got to the window and was handed a sprite, 5 pc chicken tinders, and apple pie. At first we noticed the drink and agreed that the sprite could suffice instead. I was super chill about it. So it was rather annoying when the person at the window, Eriyah (hopefully that's correct it's what my receipt says) had such a nasty attitude. They were not apologetic. They refunded my order and had me pay again which I believe they could have refunded the charge instead of me now having two holds on my checking account. Also I didn't appreciate the way she asked for the other bag of food back. It was very flippant. I was trying for process the entire encounter + I was always under the impression that taking items back in the window was a foo safety risk. This is clearly a chain. But not one I'm familiar with. I didn't even know this was coming but as I went by on way to Home Depot I saw sign that said grand opening. So of course I stopped. It's a hamburger place, drive-thru, takeout or eat outside at some tables they have. No inside seating. Currently running a special of $1 cheeseburger so I went with that. I'm not a burger expert so I brought this to someone who is. It was appreciated but I was told not the best burger in Buffalo. Ok. Fair enough. It's a chain. I also picked up some fries. As I sit here in the Checkers parking lot, devouring my 'Baconzilla' meal, I feel it's time to give them the love they deserve. I've been here more times than I'd like to admit, and each time I've been happy with experience & meal. The folks are much nicer than most 'fast food' spots and their food SLAPS. I get home and pick up the very light bag and look inside.only to see some french fries in the single burger on the bottom. I say to myself "Sonof a bitch, they goofed again!".....I drive back to the front window and give it back to them and show them the mistake they made. I have given them multiple chances, and the only thing they are consistent of, is taking their time and not doing it right. My worse delivery experience was when it took almost 2 hours to get 2 orders of food. My order was not complicated, and I didn't request anything extra. I am going to agree with Maria B and giving this place only a 3 star. My co-worker told me that checkers just opened and we both went during lunch. I ordered their bacon burger without a bun, they made it a lettuce wrap. The manager just confirmed exactly what I wanted. I also ordered a funnel cake and some fries since my friend was hyping up their fries. We get back to work and the burger was pretty good, I would get it again most definitely, but the fries was missing a lot of seasoning. it LOOKs like it has it but when eating it, i didn't have any. the funnel cake was horrible. It was like hard on the outside and tasted ok in the middle, not sure how the hell it was so hard on the outside. Other then that, I will most definitely go back since they are a late night eats! Can't go wrong with a bunch of fried, breaded, fatty meat. I typically don't eat fast food, but my friend and I were busy and reached the kind of hungry where your stomach starts eating itself. We decided to get food outside, because the drive-thru line was long, but they seem to move pretty quickly. I got a fish sandwich, he got a bacon cheeseburger, and we both got fries. The price was reasonable considering it filled us up, and it wasn't soggy, squashed buns like you'd expect at other fast food. We still felt guilty, but satisfied guilty. They don't have any vegetarian options, unless you want to gorge on French fries (in which case I'd say get it gurllll). It saddens me to write the one star review as I do like their food, but am happy to share my story on Yelp. I have shared it verbally many times over, with much disbelief. Had been to Checkers in Ohio, and a couple times at the Batavia Thruway rest stop. I truly enjoy their food and prices. I was very happy to have one open in Buffalo. My sad story involves the advertised special for the $1.99 Buttery Steak Burger. Advertised on an electronic billboard at Elmwood & Hertel. Also advertised on their signs in the parking lot. Our order was 2 Buttery Steak Burgers and an order of fries. After hearing the total, and pulling away from the speaker, the total sounded about $1 too high. So, at the pickup window, I mentioned that and asked that they check the price. I was told "Buttery Steak Burgers - 2 for $5." Of course I said "No! $1.99 each. Advertised special." Again it was confirmed "2 for $5. $1.99 for one. You want 2, it's 2 for $5." Uhhhh nooooo!!!! That makes no sense, if the register comes up that way, then ring them up separately. No, they could not do that on one order. I seriously could not believe that. The boy at the window called over another worker, and she confirmed 2 for $5. So, yes, I was arguing over a dollar, but the stupidity was the basis for the problem, not the price. For the first time ever, we just drove away without the food, not paying. Keep your 2 for $5! I vowed never to return. But..... some months later, still getting their emails, I had a buy one get one free cheeseburger coupon. Going to Regal for a movie, and needing a quick bite before, I figured I'd give them one more chance. Time had past, I yes, I like their food. This time, the walk up, and hey one was free. 2 people in front of me in the line, 25 minutes to get the cheeseburgers. Almost late for the movie! NOW, never to return. I will say that since the Niagara Falls Blvd location (an eat-in location) opened I do know someone who has become a regular there, and never has any problems. Grease city. Be prepared. I used the drive-thru. Line was short, waiting time was long. I ordered the seasoned fries, the crispy spicy chicken (with bacon, extra 79¢) and the fish. The sandwiches were a special: 2 for $2. Gave me a chance, as I was trying Checkers for the first time, to taste 3 of their menu items. I liked the seasoned fries and would get them again. Even as I was handed the bag through the window, however, grease shouted at me. The bag had several greasy spots. Inside the bag, the napkins had grease spots. The fries holder had grease-saturated areas near the top... did not seem to be the fries themselves causing that, as the bottom of the holder never did get greasy. The paper wrappers were greasy on the outside. (How DID they do that?) The wrappers were also not marked as to which 'wich was which. So, of course, I opened the fish first, the one I planned to have later. Re-wrapped that, and dove into the chicken and bacon sandwich. The bacon was good, not too fatty, and crisp enough. At first I thought the chicken was not spicy at all, but when I bit about center I hit a hot spot, and the rest of the sandwich was spicy, though never crispy. Also, the sandwich did not seem to be the source of all the introductory grease. Overall, I give the crispy spicy chicken --with or without bacon-- a 3 out of 5. The fish sandwich turned out to be breakfast the next morning. Eureka! I struck oil. The fish seemed to be the genesis of the grease. Granted it sat in fridge overnight, but how did the fish, under the breading, get grease-soaked? Taste? Hard to tell because of the grease. Fish gets a 2 out of 5. I'm feeling generous. But I did get the receipt validated for a free sandwich at another time. Doesn't say what sandwich, so should be any of the menu sandwiches; requires buying a large beverage. I really liked the seasoned fries... better than Arby's; far and away better than Popeye's. They get a 5. Checkers is new here, so it's a gotta try for yourself. Ask for extra napkins. P.S. I love Checkers and I'm so glad they are now in Buffalo! I tried them for the first time in North Carolina and they were so tasty. When I heard they were coming here I was ecstatic ! My favorite menu items are the Checker burgers, hot dog with chilli cheese and the French fries! The checker burger is the perfect size. The meat is moist and the mayo, ketchup, red onion combo is absolutely delicious! My father has tried the Big Buford and he loved it! The chilli cheese dog takes me back to childhood when you could go to a local cafe and get a slime dog. It's a boiled dog yes but the chilli and cheese are so tasty it doesn't matter! So so good! The fries. Oh the fries! Seasoned fries with an almost Cajuney flavor. I always large size then because a small would make me sad! My daughter loves the checker shakes! Not an expensive place either! As I'm moving away soon I figured I'd give Checkers a try as it opened recently Wasn't sure what to get and wasn't super hungry so grabbed two sandwiches for $4, the Cheese Double and the Spicy Chicken sandwich. Order was placed quickly and friendly enough, however I feel for what's essentially "fast food" it really wasn't very fast, about 10 minutes to cook up both sandwiches...I also witnessed some people wait almost as long for an Ice Cream .....a frikkin Ice Cream !!!!! I was disappointed with my experience here. This is a drive up/drive thru place only. There is no indoor seating and so there's no restroom in case you need one like I did after eating the food - it just went straight through me. I had to rush home and luckily I live very close by. I had the #7 spicy chicken sandwich meal with a Mr pibb. The soda tasted a bit flat like the syrup to carbonated water ratio was off. I felt like the chicken sandwich tasted like it was trying to copy the McDonalds McChicken sandwich but it fell flat. Too much mayo and the "spicy" flavor was kinda weird and unusual. Oooh lord, those fries! If I could eat nothing else and not get fat, I might just subsist on Checkers french fries. I just went to Checkers for the first time this weekend and was not expecting much. My boyfriend and I were on the way back from a Home Depot run during a hard working day of home renovation and stopped here because it was on the way and quick. I'm not a fan of fast food and typically only eat it on road trips or if I'm craving something quick and greasy (which is rarely) so I was skeptical about stopping here. I will never doubt the power of Checkers fries again! We got sandwich combos (I got the spicy chicken sandwich) with medium fries and finished both orders of fries before we even got back to the house. I was so sad when I got to the bottom of that container! I'm glad I don't know of any Checkers in Rochester because that stuff is dangerous. The chicken sandwich was good and crispy with a perfect little kick, but I forgot to ask for no mayo and am not a mayo fan so that colored my view slightly through no fault of the drive through workers. First time at Checker's (in over 15 years) and the food was delicious! The service was a little poor, perhaps the employee was new, but she got the order wrong and forgot small things like napkins, straws, the essentials- but I am still giving them 4 stars because these are the most delicious fries, and as someone who stays clear of red meat I absolutely loved the cheeseburger. So happy to see checkers here, took this long to finally try out a milkshake. Quick trip thru the drive thru...a vanilla shake, comes to 3.80 kid at the window says"do you want your change?" Huh? Get shake, pull away and find it is chocolate. Stop in lot go stand in line, tell the same kid it was supposed to be vanilla, closes the window, comes back with the shake, bands me the shake, no comment, no apology, and he wanted to keep the change. This is truly a "Get what you pay for" kind of place. What I mean by that is, I'm OK with waiting a little longer for items that all cost under $5. Are they HUGE gourmet burgers with all local ingredients? No. Are they delicious and is this location convenient? Very much so. I wouldn't stop here if your looking to be quick.
