I have used this taxi service several times. Unfortunately, when I get into the cab, I find that the driver doesn't know the city. I have to provide the address and the directions. This happens even when the destination is a clinic or a hospital. This is frustrating particularly when you have an appointment and you want to be on time. This cab was clean and it did arrive on time. I don't understand how this can happen in the age of GPS. I am giving this service three stars because I got to my destination in one piece. read more

Waved down a cab near the stampede last night. My wife has a mobility scooter. The driver was very courteous and helped us fold the scouter and lifted it into the cab. At our hotel he took it out of the cab for us and made sure it was unfolded before he left. Somehow I managed to leave my wallet in the cab. In the middle of the night the hotel slipped a letter under my door stating that a cab driver dropped off my wallet at the front desk. Nothing in my wallet was disturbed. It is so nice to experience an honest man. read more

In the past, when I've booked a cab, we had great service. Last month, I booked a cab for my hubby for pick up in Rockyview County and there was no issue. The following week, we booked again for pick up from there, and we're told they couldn't because it was out of their jurisdiction. I called Associated instead abd they were more than happy to come out. Last night I experienced the most, rude, out of control driver I've ever seen. And I wasn't even waiting for a cab. I've un-installed the Checker Cab app. Will use either Associated or an Uber now. read more

The first (pre-booked) cab arrived right on time. The driver was courteous and helpful. When our event was over we called for another cab, which arrived in 5 minutes! The second driver was also courteous and helpful, and he took us directly back home. Both cabs were clean inside and out. read more

It is probably not the fault of the company, and more of the taxi driver. We almost missed our flight all because the driver was new and it was his first time driving to the airport. He kept us waiting outside the airport for about half an hour all because he could not operate the credit card system or knew what to do. The worst thing was he refused to listen or try to understand when we tried to explain what happened or what was the messages on the credit card machine reader. He also tried to argue with his supervisor over the phone when the supervisor said to get our contact number and they would sort it out at the HQ. This is one instant I sorely regretted giving a tip when the trip did not end pleasantly nor did he help with our luggage. What happened was the credit card payment didn't go through the first time round. So we tried again. It went through. But the driver insisted it did not. We asked him to check again and to at least give us a receipt so that we can also sort it out with the bank if we double pay. He refused and said there was no receipt. What a lie! I do not know how their system worked but it showed the trip closed as a cash sale. So he kept insisting it was cash and not credit card thus the payment did not go through. It was super frustrating to reason or speak with someone who could not be open to the idea of other possibilities. His first call to his supervisor was dropped. Second call went through. The supervisor told him to just give us the receipt and get our number and they will sort it out in the office. He argued for a bit. By this time I was aware of the clock ticking and got out of the car to just get our luggage out. Another 5 minutes or so later, then he got out to get our luggage. I was like "huh you didn't even know I went out to get them already?" So I found out from my friend the driver was new and it was his first trip to the airport (explained why he could not tell me how long the journey would be from the hotel). He was not familiar with using the credit card system. In short, not very well trained. This is where the taxi company could have done better. Trained the drivers more first, or give better customer support. In other countries or cities, taxi drivers had to pass knowledge exams on the city so that they could also give basic information about the city to tourists or visitors. This experience really marred a what was otherwise a fantastic trip in Calgary. The stress of almost missing the flight was insurmountable. read more

We were picked up at Inglewood Drive In - right around the corner from Spolumbo's on 9 Ave in Inglewood. Our destination Hyatt on Stephen Ave. Reverse of the way we came by cab, straight down 9 Ave turn right at the tower onto Center St and it's a short block down. We had a red light to wait at right where we got picked up, which was kitty corner from the Rouge restaurant. He went through the lights and onto the bridge headed to the back of the zoo. I told him you could have turned left at Rouge and went back to 9th. He said there would be traffic, Memorial is better. So all the way out to Memorial and then 4 ave flyover which at 4 on a Sat and with construction was bogged down. I looked and saw his cabbies licence on his visor that was down, pulled out my phone to make note of his #. He noticed and flipped the visor up so I couldn't see it. When we pulled up at destination, handed him a 20$ bill for he took the long way to pad the fare, and he said thank you. I said I want the change and he gave me quite the look like I was weird. I spoke as he was getting it. Told him I knew what he had done and why and the way he went took much longer. I took the proffered cash and got out and told him I would call his company. When I got inside the hotel, I looked and he had even short changed me on the change by one dollar. No I did not tip, like I did the last two cab drivers we had. Booked a cab on their app to pick up me and my dad (who is on oxygen) at McMahon stadium. The Cab Driver ( cab 1111) picked up other patrons. I was able to run and catch up to the cab and when asked why he didn't pick us up he blatantly lied to my face and said he tried calling and was generally very unprofessional. I've used checker for years but this incindent has made me reconsider ever using or recommending this company again. I took a Checker Cab yesterday from the Sheraton Eau Claire to the Calgary Airport (YYC). I suspect he padded the fare a bit as 5th Avenue was a more direct route to the Deerfoot Trail than this guy's up to 9th Avenue and back down option. However, since I was anxious to get home and on expense account, I decided to enjoy the ride. This cabbie turned out to be an interesting guy to chat with. Apparently, an earlier fare was apparently none other than Kofi Annan, who he described in great detail. I was enthralled until he started talking about meeting Bill Clinton, at which point I suspected that I was being shined. I knew it would happen eventually from everything I have read... My husband uses this company to take him to a Calgary airport hangar for fly in-fly-out jobs and he obviously cannot be late for the plane. It worked the first 2 times he had to do this, the cab showed up at our home. This morning - NO-SHOW and the pickup arrangements are always made the night before. Not acceptable. My husband called the Co. twice this morning wondering where they were to hear, "The cab is on the way" X 2. If I could give less than one star I would! This cab company is awful! 3 times that I have taken it, I "pre-ordered" a cabs that never showed up. When I have taken them- the drivers do not listen and go the wrong direction charging you more money and taking longer. I was late for work on numerous occasions. And finally what drew my line today is when I called them; was told 15-30 mins till my car would arrive and 1 hour later- still no car. I call to find out where my cab is they say "Something happened and your taxi will arrive in 30-60 minutes". I said "Are you kidding me! I am already late for work because the car didn't arrive on time! Can't you send a different car?" and she said "no mam, every car has a designated spot and your car will be 30-60 minutes." Called checker cabs this morning to change booking time and request a van cab as online app had no ability to alter these. Agent extremely rude and not willing to accommodate request. Understand these are busy times during Stampede but the tone of agent was over the top and felt like it was a crime to call customer service. Instead of changing the time, he cancelled the entire booking. Hopefully management as part of quality reviews does its due diligence. Booking number #27526025. Wish I could give this a zero rating. Appalling Calgary business! My driver stopped two separate times for giving another fellow cab driver directions (with my meter running) and I told him I was in a hurry. When we got to destination I pulled out my Visa (of course he asked if I had cash). I tried to insert my credit card to pay and choose a zero tip option being very irritated at this point. The driver tells me that it didn't work and he offers to do it and gives himself a tip! I was outraged and called the company back later that day and talked to a supervisor who said he would do an I investigation by viewing the cams and call me back - he didn't! He said the complaint department wasn't open on weekends. I phone again several days later during the week and talk to the lady (term used generously) that handles all the complaints and get even worse "service" from her! First phone call wirh a chastising voice asks why I didn't call earlier as this was 5 days later. I tell her I did call but the other guy never got back to me. She says well an average amount of the fare is about the same price you paid so I can't see how you are claiming he stopped twice on your metered time. I explain that it was early in the morning on a weekend in downtown Calgary so the time / fare would be shorter to begin with. Cindy (the "lady") did acknowledge that the driver shouldn't have given himself a tip and said that she would look at tapes to investigate. She also said she was going to look Into why other supervisor didn't get back to me. I called back the next week to find out how the "investigation" was going as I wanted to submit my work expense claim. She says well you just called me at the end of last week and it takes a long time. Okay I said. She says she will call me back. Two days later she calls me back and curtly says we finished our investigation and you will not be getting any money returned. She also said she talked to the other supervisor who said he told me that he told me on phone call that I wouldn't get any money back and he never said that he'd call me back (a lie - so everyone in this company is deceitful and rude). She said they concluded that it would be Impossible for the driver to give himself a tip! I said well if you reviewed the tapes how could you say this. It was clear he entered in the second transaction and if I was so irritated at him stopping twice why would I tip him???? She just kept saying the case is now closed and you won't be getting any money back. She also said the other supervisor said he told her he said he would drop off tip money ((fiction again). So wow! Great customer service - accusing me of lying for no apparent reason - it was a nominal amount and a company expense but I thought it was worth reporting but apparently nobody there cares! I asked to speak to Cindy's supervisor. She rudely said someone would call me back. Can hardly wait to the next joker in this company! Be tuned for part 2 IF someone calls me back. Great service from the drivers. Friendly and clean. The App works really well and was able to lock in my fare.

So I stopped using associated cab due to incompetence. I take a cab 5 or more times a week. I book via the app. My cabs sit across the street and say I am a no show. They accept my booking then cancel minutes later. They accept my booking and say I am picked up..but I'm not. I call to complain and leave messages with supervisors and no call is returned. I have 200 guests attending our Christmas party either living in pr flying into Calgary from 4 cities. I had Checker as the cab company I was going to use for transportation that weekend. I will look for other options. The sad part is the drivers that do show up are very polite and generally decent. read more

We had the pleasure of using Checker this week on Monday and Friday. They arrived promptly before the sun rose on Monday, and the vehicle we requested (seating 4 with luggage) to deliver us all to YYC airport. The driver was polite and the vehicle clean. On our return dispatch was SO friendly and got us a van ASAP. The driver and dispack was EPIC in finding us where we were waiting for them to pick us up. Quick friendly service and smooth sailing. Checker cab with license plate K 57339 - the driver last night is nothing short of a disgusting pig and I did report this to the police cruiser parked a block away. I was parking my car before dinner and I see a man peeing in the parking lot. I assumed he was homeless and thought nothing more - that is until I see he is peeing all over a newer Jeeps front bumper. Before I had a chance to get out and say something he runs across the street and jumps into his car. He was the driver and was waiting in line to hopefully get a fare from the hotel. Instead of using the public washroom inside the hotel which was even closer he thought the front of this jeep would save him time and still allow him to stay in the line up of cabs. Some lucky customer handed him a credit card to pay not knowing that this guy just pissed in a parking lot over someone elses car and didn't wash his hands. I know first hand that 1 bad apple can ruin it for the bunch in a customer service industry. This review is not knocking the company or other cab drivers whom I have had a pleasant experience with however the 1 * rating is directed towards the despicable actions of the 1 driver therefor it also attaches to the company whom employs him. read more

I don't take cabs often but I tend to call Checker when I do. The women who tend to work the call centre are usually pleasant. Last time I used them it was late evening and I only had to wait 10 minutes. I've found even into the wee hours of the night they always have adequate cabs available. The drivers vary in their friendliness. A lot of the cabs have interac and they all take credit cards. Also the cleanliness of the cabs can vary, usually they are pretty clean. Checker is a good choice for your taxi transportation needs. read more

I work the construction industry in roads. Doing the airport we used a 30kmh sign at night while paving. These guys must have seen 80. And not just 1 cab. Ignorant self righteous a holes. Their on their phones all the time... cut you off with no signals... too fast.. too slow. Unpredictable at best! As a professional driver and instructor with 37 years experience in don't see how you'd put your life in their hands. I recommend if you're in a taxi... any taxi. Wow, I hardly know where to begin, so maybe I'll abuse an old cliche.... : : : THE GOOD : : : Checker seems to be the biggest cab company in the city. I see more of their cars than anybody else, and the estimated arrival times show that. I've called Associated a few times only to be basically told they had no idea when they could get a cab to me, or that it'd be over an hour (usually in bad weather or late on a Fri/Sat night) then called Checker and had one within 20 minutes or so. They also typically keep their cars very clean and pleasent, typically arrive on time, etc. The call center is about as good as any other cab company - if it's late on a weekend or snowing, you're gonna be stuck calling back 438 times, and they're going to be very abrupt and to the point, but they get the job done. : : : THE BAD : : : You know the old cliche about freshly immigrated drivers that barely speak English? Well, Checker may or may not have started that tradition, but they definitely perfected it. I can't remember the last time I had a driver in a Checker cab that I *didn't* have to repeat myself on every instruction I gave. This has, more than once, lead to them completely missing turns and having to take big detours, requesting a specific route and having them take another one entirely, or at the very least just a lot of confusion on their part and frustration on mine. They've also started a new procedure where they give your phone number to the driver and have them call you a few minutes before pickup to confirm that you're still there. I understand that it could be frustrating if somebody calls for a cab and, by the time they arrive, the person has already flagged down another one... but as somebody with more sympathy for service workers I find it rather tiresome, especially when I'm likely busy with something or have my hands full, to have to answer another call (usually from someone who I end up having the aforementioned communication problems with) just to confirm that yes, I still want the cab I just called for a few minutes before. Give me a break. : : : THE UGLY : : : it's one thing to still be learning English, that's not something they can really help.... but call me crazy, if you're driving a cab, you should either a) know the city or b) Use a GPS. This is what you do for a living. I shouldn't have to pull out my phone, google maps locations, and give the person who's job this is turn-by-turn directions... and yet this is something I've had to do dozens of times. Between this and the language problems, I'm convinced they'll take just anybody who has a valid license. It's irritating. ....all that being said, I've had literal NIGHTMARES with Associated that Checker has saved me from on more than one occasion... so they get less than 1/2 points cause they still suck, but they get the second star for being the lesser of two evils. read more

There was a time in Calgary when I really despised Checker Cabs. My first two experiences with them were horrible. Both times they arrived 10 mins later then quoted and both drivers couldn't find my destination. However, since moving to the beltline I have had no problems with their service. They arrive at my door within minutes, most drivers have a clear mental picture of where I want to go and if they were not sure they took the time to punch it into their GPS. I have yet to encounter a rude driver or a dirty cab. Though I think cabs are expensive in Calgary, if I absolutely need to get one I would go out of my way to go with Checker. A yellow cab driver approached me when I came out of the luggage terminal at the airport. He asked if I was looking for a taxi. I said yes and told him I was just about to text Uber for a pickup. He said he would take me. I asked him if he would charge me the same as Uber and he said "Yes". When I got to my home he tried to bill me almost $80. I showed him the Uber price ($55) and told him he mislead me and I would report him to the Taxi Commission if he insisted I pay the $80. He finally agreed and I paid him $55 plus a $5 tip. Come on Yellow Cab. If your drivers keep this up you will soon be out of business. I had quit taking Yellow Cabs a number of years ago due to their practices and I will now return to not using them again. PS He shouldn't be inside the terminal picking up fares from the drivers waiting outside anyways.......... read more

I'm new to Calgary and have been relying on Yelp to find the best places to do things. I've read really poor reviews on both checkers cab and associated cab companies and although both have such poor reviews checkers cab seems to be a slight bit more reliable. So I booked a cab for 4:30am to catch a 7am flight thinking to give lots of time due to all the warnings of late or no shows cabs. However, my cabbie was already waiting for me when I brought my baggage to the door at 4:25 am. He also helped me with my baggage and asked me which route I preferred best. He was polite and professional. Things you look for: Puntuality- yes Cleanliness- yes Honest and straightforward - yes Costumer service- great Paid $40 from Bowness to YCC plus tip. Took 20-25 min. Yes, I would use Checkers cab again. Maybe this was a lucky first time but until then, I'll continue using this cab company. read more

If there is a ZERO star rating, that is what I would rate this cab company. I honestly felt that the driver took advantage of the situation. We gave him tip and ask for more as he said he need to clean up the car. We did not make a mess as we requested to park at the side of the road and that is where I threw up. He mentioned that if I threw up inside the car, we need to pay which is fair. He said he wanted all the cash we have and does not want us to use master card. No receipt, no nothing after giving him cash plus the taxi chit. I tried to get hold of somebody in the company to inquire about their procedure in terms of taxi chit and receipt but I ended up in voicemail. All my questions, left an answered. Called a cab to the house in Evergreen. Waited 30 mins. Called to check "It will be there in 30 minutes". In the end they just didnt show at all. We live too far out in the suburbs to be worth the fare apparently. The biggest problem the Calgary cabbies have is not Uber, it is their own bad service. Call somebody else and good luck. read more

I have used Yellow Cabs almost exclusively for the past several years. I do get exposed to other companies when I get a cab from the cab stands at locations like Foothills Hospital. I've enjoyed the condition of the cabs, the caliber of the cabs and the good conversations (on almost every topic) as we drive along. During the heavy snowfalls and poor parking availability at locations like Foothills the cab presents a viable alternative to driving yourself (The Calgary Transit takes an hour or more, estimates of your costs to drive yourself are about $1/km, and parking is a pain and a significant expense.) Getting a cab to your location thru the dispatcher is almost always less than 15 minutes. Over the past 20 years I've had two late arrivals of cabs that I've ordered the night before. I didm't enjoy that, but if I could demonstrate a better track record for mu personal scheduled events I might be upset read more

Absolute awful. Was in town on a business trip. The cab driver was very rude and disrespectful. He actually yelled insults out the window as he drove away. He was a very creepy man as well and I have never had such an uncomfortable and unsafe feeling riding in a cab. Will never ever use this company again. They didn't even care about the unprofessional behaviour of their cab driver. That we must have done something to prevoke him and it must be our fault.
