I have always known that I wanted to be in the medical field; although, I had been missing personal confidence my entire life. This school has given me so much confidence that I can barely recognize myself. I honestly can't express my appreciation enough. Whitney is the complete definitions of empathy, kindness, fantastic work ethic, and professionalism. Took the exams. Passed both. "One and done". What more can I say? Well, okay, I will say this: Jim treats every student as a special individual, and tells them how much he enjoys having them in class. I started my surgical technology program at Pima Medical Institute (Denver) in December 2018. The…read morelength of program was 18 months. Initially, I intended to enroll in the radiologic technology program, which is also offered at Pima. However, after discovering the surgical technology program by a complete accident during a site visit, I thought it is the best decision I've ever made since. My experience at Pima was quite unique and embedded with lots of good memories, especially with friends whom I met from the same cohort. The instructors were genuinely kind and truly cared about the success of each individual student. The didactic curriculum was reasonably structured with concomitant hands-on experience in the surgical simulation lab which I thought was extremely beneficial in terms of preparation for the clinical rotation. The simulation operating room was well-equipped and set up, which offered a great opportunity to practice and master your clinical skills. Ms. Van, our lab instructor and lecturer, was super helpful and passionate about teaching. It appeared naturally to me that she really enjoyed teaching, especially when it came to the skill demonstration during the simulation lab. Approximately two weeks after the start of my clinical rotation at the University Hospital as a surgical tech student, the peak of the COVID pandemic came by the end of March 2020. The hospital where I was rotating at was forced to enforce a restriction access policy, which essentially affected all students. My clinical rotation was inevitably suspended for three months. During that time, my clinical director continuously fought to find alternative clinical sites for all of us. In the end, I finally had a chance to complete my clinical hours at Denver Health hospital, which happened to be the place that I was employed and ended up working at as a certified surgical technologist. I loved my job and felt very confident in my skill competency thanks to everything that I was taught at Pima. I am currently a PA student at Chapman University in Irvine, CA. Every time I reflect on my educational journey and how it leads me on the path where I am today, it always reminds me of the wonderful people that I met at Pima and Denver Health along with the great memories that they left within me. It was being the surgical tech that gave me the motivation to pursue the dream of becoming a surgical PA. To any prospective students who are interested in or thinking about becoming a surgical technologist, I believe Pima Medical Institute (Denver, CO) is a great place for you to start. The faculty really set a high standard for the program, which can only be appreciated if you truly care about your surgical patients and their outcome and want to be a GREAT surgical technologist in the OR.

I've been to many different institutes of higher learning and this is the only one I've dealt with…read morethat gave me as many problems as it has. I managed to flunk out of the 2nd semester of my program which requires picking up the program in May 2026. So keep in mind this is a four month period. By the middle of it, I applied for "re enrollment" and was told that a committee would be meeting on April 23 to review my application. Turns out they had "approved" this much sooner. When I received the call I was "re-enrolled" I asked if I needed to handle any taxes or related information prior to coming in for a scheduled appointment and was told that everything would be taken care of by the meeting time. Turns out revealing my 2024 taxes had not been squared away at this point was a major obstacle and we needed to reschedule. Since then I had several telephone correspondences with the Financial Aid reps and was told various different things and suggestions. My 2025 taxes returns were mentioned as helping to get the funding I need to start. Another was that a "financial coordinator" would work out some monthly payment plan agreement. Neither of these things apparently helped my situation. Given that the 2024 taxes processing takes several weeks to months if you do a mail in (which online tax filing indicated was the only option) I wouldn't have FASFA until early July 2026. In other words despite having two months time to get back into the program and have what I needed accounted for, it took as long for me to find out what I already knew was going to happen: sorry but you should have had all these bs things done and over with, you need a co-signer we already know you don't have, tough shit. But you can wait till the beginning of the new year to start up again!

I loved talking with Nancy so much that my interview ended up being an hour and a half, and in that time I got a lot of insight as to what I could expect from the next ten weeks and beyond. I received tips to help me stand out when it came to applying for the job and realistic timelines as to when I could expect to get hired, as well as specific companies that are willing to hire right out of the gate. The class itself was not too time consuming or overly difficult. I managed to find the time every week for homework even with working a part time job and going to school full time. It was really just a matter of making it a priority. The class size was small so we all got the individual help we needed. My instructor Joel was fantastic! He taught to the test, as that had the most value in the outside world as well as in the classroom. He had lots of tips, tricks and helpful advise for everybody when it came to the practical side of phlebotomy too, and was readily available to answer any questions we had. My externship with Quest Diagnostics was great. I had zero logistical questions going into it as PLC and Joel did a great job of preparing us for that. I learned so much from the ladies there and felt truly welcomed by them. They didn't treat me like an incompetent student, they treated me like a colleague. After my externship I was a few sticks shy of what I needed to complete the course, but PLC was more than willing to have me back twice to finish them up with another segment. Truly a great stepping stone for my and my career.

This is an accelerated course so you will finish it in 10 weeks plus your externship instead of 4-6 months or longer.
