We were going to try somewhere else but I saw they were active on Instagram and send them a message asking if they were open today. They responded almost immediately that they were opening at 9:30 today so we waited around until they showed up. The place is very nice inside, with lots of space. We were given the menu and looked it over. We knew we wanted the Turkish Breakfast and I also wanted to try the Cardamon Mint tea. Two other couples had come into the restaurant before we went back so the server took their orders first and then ours. We looked around and realized the one server was the only worker in the restaurant so she was actually preparing the food as well. As you can imagine, each table ordered the Turkish breakfast so it took a while for us to get our food and our drinks. The food was very good and we enjoyed trying everything. We noticed that we didn't seem to get everything listed on the menu for the Turkish Breakfast such as the tahini sauce and we believe we were missing a jam a well. However, there was still just the one server and now other customers were in the restaurant and she was busy with them. I especially liked the menemen (scrambled eggs with tomatoes and peppers). I had forgotten the breakfast comes with Turkish tea included so I had 2 types of tea, which was actually fine since I ended up liking the Turkish tea better than the Cardamon Mint. Finally, as we were finishing up, more restaurant folks showed up. All in all, we enjoyed our food and would probably try Cafe De Wan again. Parking is never an issue, as the complex offers ample space, which is always a plus when dining out. The service was good--attentive and courteous--but the real talking point here is the food. We tried the chicken shish and the koobideh, and both were excellent. The meats were well seasoned, perfectly cooked, and impressively succulent. The saffron rice deserves a special mention as well--flavorful, aromatic, and importantly, not dry, which can often be the case elsewhere. We also ordered the falafels, which were quite filling and satisfying, making for a great accompaniment to the mains. If there's one suggestion for improvement, it would be to include some house-made breads, which are something many of us are accustomed to at Middle Eastern restaurants and would elevate the experience even further. It's nice to see a middle eastern restaurant take the spot honestly. They have a limited menu compared to the competitors in the court. They have a similar selection to the Mediterranean restaurant a few store fronts away, so I unfortunately don't see them lasting too long. He offered to "take it back and heat it up"; as if serving me a piece of Frozen thawed out octopus that was burnt already could be salvaged by putting it on the grill longer. As for the food, it was delicious. I have lots of veggie friendly staff, so this place was perfect. Vegetable spring rolls, no meat pad Thai, a chicken and a tofu yellow curry, which is a coconut, no-meat base. Everything was great. Very good flavor, a good crunch on the veggies in the pad Thai. And a metric ton of white rice, the best. Overall, I was very pleased with my initial experience at Pilin Thai, and I can't wait to stop in a eat there normally one day.
