We attended the Farm to Table dinner while we were on Cape for vacation. It was amazing! The food, the service and the setting were perfect! I will definitely attend this again when I'm in the area!

Cape Abilities Farm puts people with disabilities at the helm of fully-functional, commercial…read moreproduce farm. Too humble to gloat for themselves, the yield from this Dennis land is some of the finest (and award-winningest) vegetation on the Cape. And in this bright green, columned shop near Chatham Lighthouse, is the spot to load up on all the crops the farm has to offer. Bibb lettuce to root vegetables, begonias to string beans - whatever's popping up from the well-tilled earth is being sold from these shelves. Oddly, there's also a toy corner, trinkets and baubles for touristy purchases (my shirt has a lighthouse on it!) and a side room serving as a local art gallery. Peculiar? A bit. Unique? Perhaps. Contributive towards the homey vibe? Definitely.* Just like the farm, the retail location is staffed by folks with special needs (mainly students from nearby Chatham High). Unlike the farm, this piece is air conditioned. Give it a peek - your soul (and your stomach) will thank you for it. ---- *After a bit of research, it seems the building in which the storefront resides was an old art gallery. The owners of said gallery have allowed Cape Abilities to operate rent-free for what's now the second continuous season. Warm fuzzies abound!

I had a dessert that looked like a golden baked pastry clamshell- filled with orange zest and ricotta cheese.... OMG! It was sensational!!! The staff was absolutely lovely! They brought our food out to us on their picnic benches ( the porch tables and chairs had been stowed for the impending Nor'Easter...). My sandwich was HOT and gooey- and the black truffle chips were sensational! I will most definitely return here next time I'm in the Brewster area next summer!!! Thank you!!!! The bread is on the softer, chewier side, perfect for loading up on the fillings. For a lighter lunch, I went with the beet and burrata salad with a side of the chicken cutlet and the combo of the beets with the cheese and the candied hazelnuts was amazing. I'll be thinking of this meal for a while. Also tried bites of my friends' Knotty Girl and Diamond Girl sandwiches - you honestly can't go wrong with whatever you decide on. Everything tasted so fresh and home-made. They also have lots of cheeses, including mozzarella, stracciatella, and a buttery burrata that came with the salad. Unfortunately, I can't eat too much of it without getting BAD stomach problems later on but everyone else enjoyed it. Huge parking lot, with some picnic tables and seats in the shade. We waited a bit for the food to come out but it was well worth it.

There's a lot of interesting and good information, and I liked the people. But.... The first half of the tour is in an old mini bus. The bus has tiny windows, like 4" square, and no air circulation. No fans. No air conditioning. Today was nearly 90 out by 10 am, when our tour started, and temperatures inside the bus got so hot that stepping out felt cool! You don't travel far, and then they stop for 10 minutes to talk about what's out the window. It's brutal. Ironically, the travel distances are so slim most people could walk it. But, just sitting on the bus in the heat? Yuck. The second half is in an old shed where you learn about harvesting. Again, it could be interesting, but it's a good 10° hotter, even with the fans going, and it makes it hard to focus. Or even listen. Better weather would have helped. But, we had an old lady in our tour group nearly pass out, and the guide indicated that that was not uncommon. Heck, complimentary water would be nice. Waters are a dollar. The tour is fifteen. It's all cash only.
