In the rare cases that she needed extra assistance medically, the staff was attentive, kind and caring and they communicated well with me. The activity directors have been wonderful and creative, making everyday life fun and active for the residents. We've also enjoyed and developed relationships with many of the staff members.

Purpose of my visit: Celebration of Life of my high school PE teacher in the Fireside Room. It was a nice gathering of former students from Oakland Tech and Oakland High, friends and family of Marvelous Marva Nielsen aka Mrs. E. Although I did not take a tour of this gated community, and it is well-maintained, the area seems to be a peaceful one. Marva was the "longest serving golf marshall, serving about 14 years" in that capacity. She took care of the golfers and the golf courses. I know she will be missed by the people who live in this community.

I attended a tour of the Pleasanton facility and besides being impressed with the facility itself, the presentation was excellent. My husband and I attended our "informational brunch" in November and again had a very positive experience. Lots of information, presented concisely and any and all questions were answered in a straightforward manner. There's nothing hard sell/ pushy about these presentations. Following that brunch we met with our residency counselor to figure out what next steps would best suit our situation. She has been excellent! Very patient in answering our questions, showing us the various unit floor plans and discussing our options. She's very knowledgeable about the entire process, of course, but she also understands that making the decision to move into this type of residence represents a significant change for most people and is both empathetic and encouraging. To summarize, our experience to date with The Glen at Heather Farms has been very positive.

The proper and detailed care you'd provide -- but better…read more Let me start by saying that my profession had me working with caregivers for ten years, supporting them through the rehabilitation of their loved ones with brain injuries. I, too, was a caregiver for a loved one with two, severe brain injuries. As he aged, dementia, secondary to the injuries, set in. So no easy case to manage. To state it politely... I had been caring for him for over two decades but it was time for him to be placed where his needs could be better addressed as he was about to be wheelchair-bound. A year living in a conventional, assisted living facility was a disaster (the place eventually went out of business), which was similar to the experience my mother had about a decade earlier in another facility. I worked with David Cohen of Exceptional Senior Placements (ESP) to find Moraga Retreat on Woodford Drive, in Moraga. We had finally found a *real home* for my loved one! It was a struggle for my loved one as he wanted his independence and wanted to go back to his home. Both things were not possible because of the damage to his brain and his increasing fragility. This is what Moraga Retreat owner Ana Blaj and her dedicated staff were tasked with overcoming, in addition to dealing with all of the medical and physical challenges he presented. Ana and her staff patiently and painstakingly softened his resistance, worked diligently to enhance his comfort in every way he asked and needed, and addressed his food preferences. It was heroic! No exaggeration. My loved one liked living there, knew he was cared for as well as possible and bonded with Ana, Donna, Wayne and the other caregivers like family. It was mutual affection, more than I ever thought possible. Oh sure, I was in the middle of things too much thinking I knew better about his care. Ana is an expert, certified care manager and she is locked down on the details and managing the staff and the home. It turned out no one knew better what to do for my loved one than *they did.* Period. After so much time devoted to my loved one's care, *I* could finally stand down and let people I trusted take care of him. What a relief for both of us. Moraga Retreat gave both of us our lives back. There are no words to thank them for five years of unwavering service as much as they deserve. I strongly suggest if you need help caring for your loved one, make an appointment to visit Ana and the staff at Moraga Retreat. I don't know what I would have done if I'd never met her. Truly.

After 3 years of blissful living at Bethel Care Home, my mom passed away. She was 93 and it was her…read moretime. To be in the care of Martin, Andre and Emma for 3 years was a blessing. I spent so much time with the caregivers as I am someone who wants to get to know the people taking care of my mother. These 3 people are absolutely amazing. I will never forget the love and kindness they bestowed upon my mother and myself.

She lost the use of her left side and the ability to toilet and shower herself. She arrived at Bethel Care Home on hospice with a life expectancy of two weeks to two months. Due to the fantastic care at Bethel, my mom was able to revive such that she is no longer on hospice or in danger of imminent death. She is able to talk with others and is more alert to her surroundings. During her year at Bethel, even through all of the Covid restrictions and challenges, she received great attention to her care and physical needs. She never got bed sores or any sickness at all. She reported she liked the food (everything is homemade with no processed foods). We are sad to say goodbye to the team at Bethel since my mom is now moving to a memory care facility where she can get some additional cognitive and physical stimulation to support her health journey. We highly recommend Bethel Care Home to others.

The entire staff is super friendly and attentive, and as others on Yelp! have noted, the facility and grounds are beautiful and meticulously cared for. My aunt has a sunny top-floor apartment that is large and has mountain views. Other apartments we toured had patios with lovely garden views or other amenities. When we toured independent living communities what struck us most is how institutional so many feel. Not The Heritage. All of the common areas are beautifully furnished/carpeted or landscaped and, as my aunt loves that the restaurant uses real tablecloths and cloth napkins (she also really appreciates that Newton's, the restaurant, has set dining hours, which means there are always lots of people sit with and talk to). Lastly, as the relative who lives closest and helps manage her affairs, the front desk staff have been excellent at letting me know when my aunt has required medical assistance or if there's a matter they think I might be able to assist her with. She's recently begun to need some regular in-home assistance and the management team has a home care provider they contract with and have been very helpful getting the right level of assistance set up. Bottom line: The Heritage has consistently offered five-star service and accommodation for the six years my aunt has lived there.
