Black Hills Gymnastics - Kids form great teamwork habits at Black Hills Gymnastics.

On the good side, Maddie at the front desk is overworked but a wonderful and hardworking person. Also, it seems clear to me they are fostering incredible talent with young people. The level of skill for the kids who get attention is impressive. My 7 year old was accepted into Xcel prep team. She made a close friend and really found a passion for bars. Over summer, Coach Conner said she was lacking in focus. Most of the kids were out for the summer. My daughter was camping and attending art, math and sailing camps. Her world view was broadening. Also, I was kind of transient at the time and waiting for my apartment to come through. Our routine was disrupted. While she was happy, she maybe fell out of love with gymnastics for the summer. I thought about my run with soccer as a little girl and I fell in and out of love with it, but was still committed for over a decade. I think that alone is a valuable lesson. Coach C and I set up a system where I knew if she gave 100% during practice and would get her a treat if she did. She refocused but I think Black Hills gave up on her before the fall session. She was separated from her close friend and spent four hours a week doing stretches and beams. She didn't learn new skills and never returned to the bars she loved so much. Coach Conner stayed with a group of more focused children and a wonderful and kind young woman took over with my daughter's new group. My daughter became bored and restless. Her love of gymnastics dipped further than before. First, my youngest asked to take a break from gymnastics (I just don't think it's her thing). Then my oldest asked to take a break. I was terrified her love for gymnastics was forever altered. I asked her to talk to her coach. While young people make great coaches, they don't always know how to inspire the way perhaps an older coach might. The coach kinda shrugged her shoulders and told me my daughter wanted to try other sports. I was hoping maybe my daughter would get more encouragement. Anyway, eventually she asked to try another gym. I think that is the right choice. We had such a positive experience at the gym in Kirkland, I am sorry to see her love and enthusiasm dip. It is a life lesson though! The guest wifi doesn't work most of the time which can result in the commiseration of bored parents in the parking lot. My personal hell is the little room with the cubbies when classes transition. There are so many people and no personal space. I think if your child is ordained by the coaches, it could be an intense but enriching experience. My child, however, doesn't deserve to be left on the sidelines. And not for the same cost in tuition.

This place has gone from great to disgusting and unsafe over the past couple of years. Management…read morehas turned over a couple of times since then and teacher staff is now a revolving door. We just pulled our daughter out of there because they aren't even pretending to apply a curriculum for pre-k. They're babysitters, now, and not even very good ones at that. Most recently, we found soiled clothing stuffed into her backpack with her other clothing, sheet, and blanket. Not in a bag, just right into her backpack which now is soaked with urine. My four-year-old doesn't often have accidents, but good lord, what lazy, thoughtless person thought this was ok? During the pandemic, staff was supposed to be masked. Almost daily, either on dropoff or pickup, there were staff seen in classrooms or in the office (the part parents and kids walk though) either completely without a mask or the mask pulled down. Every time I brought it up, I was told that they'd "mention it in a staff meeting" or confirm that yes, it is their policy for staff to mask up. Regardless of your views on masking, the fact that they just didn't enforce their own policies that are supposed to be in place for safety, is unacceptable. The owner, Tom, also spread misinformation during the pandemic regarding masks and other preventive measures via signage posted at the center and at the summer camp location. This place started going down hill quickly when the director (a couple of directors ago, I think) left. Andrea was the last good one, but it was clear that she was being hamstrung from actually doing anything good there. I know it's tough finding a child care center these days, but please, if you have the option, look elsewhere. I'm sure there are other places just as bad or worse, but I no longer trust this place to keep my child safe and certainly not to prepare her for kindergarten. The dozen or teachers who have cycled through that room in the past few months have been uninterested in getting to know the kids, have completely ignored kids who clearly needed attention, were downright mean to kids (witnessed during dropoff on numerous occasions). If you can help it, please trust your children to another center. Also, the five star review that this is updating was written with the promise of a starbucks giftcard. I'm not sure how many other positive reviews are genuine.

Tuition was due on the beginning of the month and as far as I knew, it was paid. She waited conveniently to tell me, on the day of my son's Valentine's Day party. He had a bag full of gifts for his teachers and classmates. She had his teachers tell me that he wasn't allowed in class that day. She didn't call me the night before or anything! But she did make the time to call my son's teachers the night before the party. Both of them tried to reach me, but could not find me on Facebook. She treats her staff poorly. I would have happily paid the tuition before to ensure my son go to his party. Yet she waited until I dropped my son off 20 minutes before my shift, resulting in me missing work for the next week until I could find a new daycare because no way in hell was he stepping foot back in that place. She also had no problem yelling at me while my son was in my arms, and in front of her staff. I can't imagine what she is comfortable to do behind closed doors. And some of the staff treat the children poorly. I saw one teacher yank a 3 year old up by her wrists. As a gymnastics coach, that is a big NO NO. She easily could have dislocated her shoulders, elbows, or wrists. The girl was crying but was punished for that. Do not put your children in this school. Not all the teachers are like her. But all it takes is one.
