I did business with Wallkill Valley Federal years ago and left because of the poor customer…read moreservice. Recently, I decided to give them another chance because it has been years since I had an account with them. BIG MISTAKE! My husband and I went to the bank and opened a joint account. Everything went fine. I then received a piece of a mail from the bank that had never been sealed. My account number was available to anyone that chose to peak inside the envelope. I immediately called the bank and spoke with Nancy. Nancy said I was not the only customer to complain and at first blamed the post office, but later admitted that another customer had come into the bank to show that his envelope had not been sealed by the bank. It became obvious that Nancy did not like hearing complaints when she asked me, why I bothered to come back to Wallkill Valley Federal and open an account. I told her that I had thought by now (after all the years that past), Wallkill Valley Federal would have changed the way they do business, but evidently, that was incorrect and I would be discussing the situation with my husband when he got home from work. When my husband got home and heard what Nancy had to say, his reply was, "CLOSE THE ACCOUNT!" I might also add that I emailed the President of the bank who blamed the post office for the torn envelope and totally ignored the fact that the envelope was CLEARLY NOT SEALED and that's WHY the envelope was torn at the post office.

That's my opinion of the organization overall but I will base this review on this particular branch. I visited today with my daughter because she's been sailing coins for months & it was finally time to make that big deposit. Now I've been down this road before, usually when you want to deposit a large amount of coins the banks will tell you they have to be all rolled up first then send you home to start the tedious task but not today. I was pleasantly surprised when the teller gave us wrappers, sorting machines & a little coin holder that allows you to slide the rolls into the paper very easily. Then.... get this.... she points us to a lounge in the back with tables, chairs, a TV, tea & coffee where we can sit and get down to business!!! How about that!?!? Every time I interact with Navy Federal they surprise me in a great way every time! The staff was so pleasant and friendly. Another teller even came over during our rolling time & complemented my daughter on her saving habits! It really made her feel good.

Highlands State Bank is smaller but that's the best part. There is absolutely no fee checking. Open it with $50 and you could take $49 out the next day and there is no fee! Savings accounts just have to have $100 to prevent a monthly service fee. I am disabled & currently don't have a car. Not a problem, there is free completely mobile banking available. Get a rebate check from ebates.....that's ok, take a picture and deposit it with your smartphone. No need to even go in. The staff are amazingly kind & helpful! They go out of their way to make sure that whatever you need gets accomplished. I'm moving out of the area but because the mobile banking is so awesome, I will not be leaving them behind!
