Easter dinner was....interesting. TLDR = Staff A+, ambiance & view A+, Food C- Husband ordered lamb, my mom and I the filet and my dad the New York. Out of the four....only one was a success. The other three came to the table so grey they resembled hockey pucks more than meat. We sent them back but my husband's again came back way over cooked. This time he just choked it down. The bisque was delicious and the salad approachable but neither swoon worthy. I guess being a Landry restaurant, you know what to expect. Nice views, not so nice food at high prices. Complimentary valet parking, which is mandatory. They don't let you park your car to prevent any fender benders. Had reservations for a birthday on a Saturday night and had a nice table with a good view in the downstairs area. It's very elegant inside and the place seems to accommodate a lot of people. The downfall with where we sat was there was a vent blowing cold air at one end of our table and people were cold! Also it was a very long dining experience, thankfully we had good company. We were there around 7-10. Food was decent, drinks were good. We got the crunchy coconut shrimp appetizer, that was good. Our friends got the calamari which had great flavor. I got the Caesar salad, shrimp linguine and mini lava cake for the chart course, I liked it all. Husband got the prime rib and said it was alright, he had the lobster bisque and liked that. Our first visit to Chart House for Portland Dining Month was an absolute delight from start to finish. Making a reservation through Open Table was a breeze, and we opted for a Sunday lunch. Upon arrival, we appreciated the ample parking--even though the spots were a bit small, it was easy to find a space. After a short wait at the hostess stand, we were seated by a window with stunning views of the river and the surprise bonus of watching bald eagles soar by. The atmosphere was both relaxed and inviting, setting the tone for a special meal. Our server, Jose, provided excellent service--friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the Portland Dining Month menu. We sampled a variety of dishes, including the Kim chee calamari, firecracker shrimp, prime rib French dip, coconut shrimp, and lobster shrimp carbonara. Each dish arrived quickly and deliciously hot, with generous portions that left us with plenty of leftovers to take home. Dessert was just as impressive; we shared a mini lava cake, creme brulee, and salted caramel cheesecake. Every bite was decadent and satisfying, making it hard to pick a favorite. Overall, everything was delicious, and the experience exceeded our expectations. We left already talking about our next visit. I'm so happy Portland Dining Month was back this year! It really encourages you to explore new places or revisit older ones. On the last day of March, we stopped by Chart House for an early dinner. The $55 special closely replicated a standing $59 three-course offering on their regular menu. I opted for clam chowder, lobster and shrimp carbonara, and crème brûlée. While the chowder was thinner than I usually prefer, it had excellent taste. The carbonara was a standout; I plan to come back for the lunch version in the near future. Came here during Portland dining month because I had a gift card and was super interested in the variety of menu options they had for 3 course menu. Came here during lunch and the best things I ate were the carbonara and crème brûlée. The clam chowder was watery and the Caesar salad kind of tasted like a salad kit. Came here on a recommendation for my birthday weekend and it exceeded our expectations. Our waiter (Austen?) was so great and really made our first time wonderful. We started with espresso martinis, then moved onto mojitos- we got the mango, along with the mojito flight (even came with an extra drink mix flask to have one more round.) Drinks were so good and strong. I ordered the Mahi and B ordered the prime rib and wow, blew it out of the water. We also got sides of mushroom and asparagus, and the garlic mash was amazing too. For dessert, we got the lava cake, a side of seasonal ice cream (peanut butter with chocolate), and I was given a little birthday slice- great end to the evening. We were stuffed! We had to order the lava cake dessert ahead of time as it's made to order and takes 30 minutes. It's a great place for a formal dinner, like for work events or celebrations. It's best known for its great view along the mountain top looking down towards the city and river. Food and drinks are delicious. Environment and staff is that of an upscale restaurant. I've been back to the Charthouse a couple times since my review and to have to say, things have improved a lot. Food for my party has very good, cooked perfectly, and the waiters have been excellent. Not long waits and I even ordered the chocolate volcano thing. I love chocolate so that was a great finish. The waiters, very good, even recognize me. (Not sure exactly what that might mean ;-) ) I think I have a new regular go-to spot. read more

I had a great time at Chart House celebrating my two year anniversary. It was a pretty scenic and nice drive near OHSU. There is a valet service which is nice especially when I was worried about finding a place to park. We were seated near the window which let us see the whole city. Our server was nice and had a great attitude serving us. The restaurant is high end and is pricy, but I felt it was worth the service we received. The shrimp cocktail was great and finished that fast. I wasn't the biggest fan of the lobster bisque, but that's just me not eating a lot of lobster. I had a shellfish linguine which was amazing. It was a Saturday evening and I was surprised that it was not too crowded. Our server did confirm that the restaurant was expected to be extremely busy the following day for Mother's Day. I loved that they seated my family of four at a window table. The Portland city views are absolutely beautiful! I recommend the following items: Whipped Riccota + Meatballs: we started off with these delicious meatballs. We chose the beef option and were pleased with our choice. The meatballs are warm and savory! Filet mignon: I asked for a medium rare filet and it was cooked to perfection, just as I requested. The meat was tender, juicy, and it was a truly melt-in-your-mouth experience. It comes with a side of garlic mashed potatoes, which is a nice pair. To complement my protein, I added Asian Green Beans and Sizzling Mushrooms and shared these with my family. Both the green beans and the mushrooms were an excellent choice. Hot Chocolate Lava Cake: chocolate lovers, don't miss this delicious treat! I was in Portland for a few days and I ended up going to this chart house twice on this three day trip. Obviously the food is excellent. The service was very nice and the ambience is great since you sit up overlooking the rivers in the city of Portland downtown and from our view, we could see I believe the peak of Mount Whitney and Mount Hood, depending on which direction we looked. On these two particular evenings, I tried the clam chowder, the warm, chopped spinach salad the first night I had the black cod and the second night. I had the filet mignon they were all excellent and I did have a glass of red red wine it was I believe the Cabernet Sauvignon. I would highly recommend this location. read more

I visited Chart House three times in 2025, including Thanksgiving Day, and left happy about the food and location and service each and every time! The Valet is very quick and efficient, the servers have always been extremely on top of service and welcoming, and all six of us at Thanksgiving had a delicious meal, great turkey, and nice vegetarian options. The view is also a unique angle of Portland and makes it fun for a special occasion. The ambiance is upscale but also not stuffy. read more

We didn't have plans for Christmas Day this year and decided to go out for a nice dinner! Our reservation options were limited to either 11:15am or 8pm, and since we're early birds, we opted for a festive Christmas lunch. We were delighted to be seated at a lovely window table, which really has a beautiful view of the Willamette River. Our server was absolutely fantastic - friendly, attentive, and made our Christmas meal feel special. We started with the bread service, which was a nice touch. For my meal, I chose the lobster bisque, followed by the Chilean Sea Bass with risotto, and finished with the lava cake. The lobster bisque was good, but I later realized that the same flavor profile was present in my sea bass dish. While both were tasty, I would have preferred a bit more variety and perhaps chosen a salad to start instead. My husband enjoyed the clam chowder, followed by the Surf and Turf (filet mignon and grilled shrimp) with mashed potatoes, and he finished with the key lime pie. Came here for dinner and had a really nice meal. There's no parking other than valet, but that was ok because it's complimentary. The inside of the building is really nice - big windows overlooking the city with trees surrounding the building. We had a table right in the middle. I got a local beer that was tasty. Both of us ended up getting 3-course meals, with salmon chowder (YUM - very buttery), caesar salad (YUM), salmon & crab entree with mango sticky rice (great), shrimp linguine (meh - strangely limey), and mini lava cakes (YUM). Our server at Chart House were friendly, nice and excellent at helping us with menu and cocktails. We ordered 3 Happy Hour food dishes: 1) Coconut Crunch Shrimp was yummy 10/10 with the sweet and sour sauce, 2) Kim Chee Calamari was creamy & crunchy 8/10 missing a little acidity (a piece of lemon), 3) Fish Taco was good 7/10 missing tomato salsa acidity. The Thanksgiving Dinner was awesome, never thought of creamed spinach. And the view was stunning. I would say the one place for improvement would have been the desserts. My date had recommended eating at this place before our official first date. Long story short, we ended up here without reservations. We had the option to sit at the bar downstairs and did just that. It is without a view but the aesthetic was nice and enjoyable. I ordered a margarita and the halibut with broccolini. My date ordered the filet mignon and mashed potatoes with a side salad. The service was slow which wasn't a big deal as we weren't in a rush. The food however came out lukewarm at best. My fish was overcooked and my broccolini wasn't cooked enough. The food was 8.7, spectacular. I had the Oysters to start, a half dozen was modestly priced, incredibly fresh and the shallot and red wine vinegar sauce was an incredible addition. The fresh ciabatta bread was also nice. For an entree I had the lobster and shrimp carbonara and I thought peas were a strange addition and honestly I couldn't taste them so much and they added a decent texture. After dinner I enjoyed a Caged Tiki cocktail and it was very interesting and had an immense depth of flavor. The view from the window side table and the lighting were also lovely. Though the server was okay, he could've been better. He was attentive but didn't come around often and so I was left waiting from time to time. I came here for dinner with my brother and boyfriend one evening and had a good time. Starting off, Chart House is located on the mountain above downtown Portland, so you get an amazing view as you dine. There is also limited parking and valet is mandatory (you cannot park yourself). The staff was friendly and service was quick the whole time we dined. However, I must note that the initial utensils, glass, and plate I received were all dirty. I had to let the staff know to get new dishware and the waitress I asked seemed a bit annoyed. However, the rest of the dining experience was fine and our table's waiter was very friendly. We ordered the shrimp, avocado and mango stack to share and tried different soups and salad for appetizers. The shrimp, avocado and mango stack as well as the salad I got were all delicious. The soups were a bit too salty. For mains, we got a NY strip, peach-bourbon glazed shrimp and scallops, and a lobster pasta. I thought everything was delicious and absolutely loved the peach-bourbon glazed shrimp and scallops. We also all got different desserts and thought that they key lime pie and cheesecake were okay. Chart house was always my go to for Valentine's Day and the reservations were always made 6+ months in advance because it used to be that good! Anyway, apon arrival the whole waiting area was so packed there's not enough seats for the amount of people they ate having wait. So we are forced to stand in our nice heels for over 20 minutes while we wait for reservations that were 20 plus minutes ago. Next year I highly suggest they don't put reservations so close together that you just jammed ur waiting room with people just to hope to fill every spot. After being seating, still nothing. Waited a few minutes before receiving water and I get that it's busy I truly do and I come here every year on Valentine's Day but it's never been this terrible. When you see every single customer wearing their winter coats inside the restaurant that surly has to be an eye opener that restaurant is clearly freezing. It was so cold after being seated my whole experience was just me shivering waiting to leave because it felt like prison at this point. Ordered salad and soup honestly the best part of my whole visit was only the soup and salad. Our main dish was terrrrrible. Got the shrimp and lobster pasta and for $50+ I would hope it tasted good, nope. Only thing I could taste was the insane amount of frozen peas on the dish. The waiter sucks, get someone younger who has a sense of urgency? Also telling customers they need order their desert basically when they receive their dinner is a bit insane. Talk about pushing people to leave quickly but never actually having the sense of urgency to follow through? By the time my food was cleared from the table and I'm just waiting in this freezing restaurant wanting to leave I have to wait 20 minutes for a lava cake that tastes exactly like the frozen ones from the chef store that take 30. Seconds to heat in the microwave which almost every restaurant uses? This place has severely gone down hill and hopefully they look at their fails and try and fix it next year but I'm beyond embarrassed hyping this restaurant up as if it's one of the best in Portland and that's far from the truth now. Two of our party of four arrived just in the nick of time to secure a table by the window with a beautiful view of downtown Portland. We went ahead and ordered drinks while we waited for our birthday girl to be delivered. She had no idea we were waiting for her. I had the pomegranate martini. It had a sugared rim, a lemon slice floating in it and it was just the right amount of tart. Me and Heather perused the happy hour menu while we waited. We were impressed with the variety of options and the reasonable prices. After many gasps of delight and hugs all around the birthday girl took a seat of honor by the window and our foursome was complete. Our server Ryan made sure everyone had cocktails right away. We shared the artichoke dip and the fried artichokes with rémoulade sauce which were both big hits with the table. 3 of us ordered the beef sliders, I got mine without the caramelized onion, and Sylvia ordered the ahi nachos which were both beautiful and delicious. After all our plates were taken away a surprise slice of chocolate cake with a candle came out and of course we had to embarrass the birthday girl with song. Then came the giant gift. Someone commented the lobster bisque is stunning. My taste is that it is a little too salty for me. The oysters on shell were very fresh but tiny. The prime rib is great, very tender and melt in mouth. The NY strip on the other hand was a little dry. I got the lobster and black cod risotto. The waiter strongly recommended but I found it no excitement. I mean fish was fresh, that's all I could compliment about. The atmosphere was classic. Would I go back?
