The view from Chart House is truly magnificent, looking out over the water and the New Pass bridge. This is an older restaurant, providing great views for many years. Once we finished inside we walked down by the water to appreciate the spot. We stopped in for Happy Hour, which currently runs from 4:00 to 6:30. The bar area was busy but we were able to find seats along the bar counter. Chart House is a large restaurant with large windows for diners to enjoy. In the bar area the view was not so much, blocked by bar stuff. That's ok, we still enjoyed the location. We also enjoyed our visit. Jackie the bartender was very nice, and quite efficient. I liked watching how well she moved around interacting and mixing drinks. Other customers were friendly and happy. It was just a nice place to belong. I looked forward to some food, specifically their Prime Rib Sliders. They weren't amazing but still good, and the three sliders were larger than I expected. I've been to quite a few Chart Houses over the years, however this location seemed to cater more to a much younger vibe despite the crowd being mostly older -- probably people in their 60s. The music felt more geared toward people in their 20s and 30s, which made the atmosphere feel a little disconnected from the clientele that was actually there. On top of that, the food and experience felt overpriced for what you received. Overall, it just didn't feel like the classic Chart House experience I was expecting. Would I go back? This is a date night special occasion place! Make reservations and ask for a window seat, the whole back wall is a window over looking New Pass at the Gulf of America! There is an "early bird" special with very slightly smaller portions, and add on a salad bar for only $8 more vs $15 for the same bar added to the main menu. Even though the hostess said we could have the happy hour menu at our table, the waiter said that this wasn't the case. He suggested to have some appetizers that are part of the early bird menu. We decided on each having a serving of firecracker shrimp and share an artichoke spinach dip. I also enjoyed a Cigar City Jai Alai IPA. The beer is a dollar more than in the bar area. We wanted to sit in the bar area, order a couple of appetizers, and a beer for my husband. The bar area was completely full, so we moved to the regular restaurant area. The woman who seated us assured us that the bar area appetizer menu was available at the table in the main restaurant. This is not true. In fact, our waiter said he heard her say that and wondered if something changed. He told us that if we wanted to move to the bar area, he would look for a couple of seats. None opened up in the next few minutes and there are limited(choice of only three) $8.00 appetizers available in the dining area. We ordered two Firecracker shrimp appetizers($2.00 more than in the bar area) and one artichoke-spinach dip(Same price as in the bar area). The shrimp had a nice flavor, a bit of a kick. There were 10 shrimp on the plate. The artichoke-spinach dip came with 8 garlic crackers, so a little added flavor from the crackers. The dip was not very flavorful. It was just chopped spinach and artichokes with small amount of baked bread crumbs on top. It was not the traditional spinach-artichoke dip made with cream cheese, mayo and Parmesan. Additionally, the beer my husband ordered was $2.00 more than the same beer in the bar area. (Our waiter told us it would be $1.00 more.) Our waiter was very nice and attentive. We should have arrived a 1/2 hour earlier and we might have been able to eat in the bar area with quite a few more appetizer choices. I brought my girlfriend here for her birthday the other weekend. The restaurant is right on the water and a very nice location. Our service was sub-par at best. Our server did not bring us refills unless requested and continuously served other tables while walking right by ours. Our appetizer took over 30 minutes to come out. My girlfriend ordered a three course meal with a salad, entree, and dessert. The server never brought her salad and I had to request it after she had dropped the entrees off and left. My girlfriends entree was barely warm when it came out and the server never came back to ask how our food was. She also never got a steak knife for the steak she ordered. I had to flag the server down after 10 minutes of having our food to let her know that my girlfriends meal was cold and her salad never came out. She did not apologize, just said that she would fix it as soon as possible. It took another 20 minutes for the food to come out and by that time I had already finished my meal. The manager brought her food out the second time, but just dropped the food off and did not apologize for the inconvenience. The food was otherwise pretty good, but the service was so dissapointing that we will not be coming back. read more

There were a variety of items and we tried virtually everything on the menu, including the lettuce wraps, spinach artichoke dip, crispy spicy tuna, lobster tartare, and prime rib sliders. The service from the hostess stand to the table left much to be desired. The restaurant is in a rather rundown location and showed its age. Our server seemed less than interested in picking up our drinks from the bar or circling back to inquire about additional orders. The dining experience was hampered by the awkwardly low (though comfortable) seating and tiny tables. The food was quite good, particularly the crispy spicy tuna and the sliders, though the portions were perhaps even smaller than we predicted (lobster tartare). We spent Monday evening at the Chart House for our 29th Anniversary. Everyone was very welcoming. We had no wait and our tables view was spectacular !! The menu even wished Gene and I a Happy Anniversary. That was too cool . Our waitress was LINDSEY and she was spot on. Everything was timed perfectly. She was beautiful and super friendly. Excellent view, attractive decor and delicious food. Consistent quality we're used to. I'm taking off one star because it's not the service we're accustomed to at Chart House. It was our wedding anniversary. Although the hostess acknowledged it (and enthusiastically), our server did not, and we also didn't get a personalized menu with our name and occasion across the top. We discussed over dinner that maybe they just stopped doing it, but on the way out we saw a bunch of personalized ones rolled with ribbon, so we know they still do it. Also it's odd.. although our server was nice and knowledgeable, he was not warm and we also had this feeling maybe we were sized up from the start like he didn't feel he was going to get a big check from us. We hadn't even decided what we were getting, looking over the menus, and he asked "Are you ordering from the early bird menu?" I did have it on top because I was reading it after I read the specials menu but hadn't gotten to the main menu yet. So I thought it was weird. Was it because I wasn't dripping in jewels like some of the other patrons, or because we ordered water instead of wine? Not sure, but it shouldn't matter. We should all be treated like they're thrilled to have us there. It's part of why we always loved Chart House all these years. We've only been to the LongBoat Key location once before, but the Tampa one many, many times before it closed, and other Landry's restaurants as well, and we were always treated like VIPs. It was truly wonderful. Not the experience whatsoever this evening. We had to wait quite a while between courses... we were done with our entree and waited 15 minutes twiddling our thumbs till he came by to check on us. Also twice I was completely out of water and had to wait quite a while for a refill each time (a pet peeve of mine...I can't stand waiting for water, and that's rarely an issue in the nicer restaurants). We weren't even asked if we were Landry's Select members, but we noticed the table next us was asked. Anyway, after tonight it's unlikely we'll be back at all and have already chosen a new restaurant we went to earlier this week as our new anniversary restaurant. EDITED TO ADD: The manager Helena called us shortly after we wrote this review to apologize and ask for another chance to wow us. Service was good, food was fine, but the termite frass falling on our table/plates during the meal was gross. When we arrived at our table in the lounge, one plate had what appeared to be crushed black pepper on it. Upon closer inspection I immediately identified it as dry wood termite frass (poop). Our server noticed the dirty plate and offered to bring a clean one, and I mentioned to him that he may want to alert management to the termite issue, and he agreed. Upon receiving the clean plate, within a minute there was already more frass on it, and we even witnessed one piece landing on the plate. I never touched the plate and moved to the other side of the table, and by the time we were finished, about 45 mins later, I counted 12 termite frass pellets on the plate. Gross! This was a first for me in every way, and not an experience I'd like to repeat. Avoid the 2 top that is the second table on the right when you walk enter the lounge from the waiting area. read more

If you're not coming here for happy hour, you're sleeping on a real treat! We came here based on a recommendation from our Captain from our charter, who said Chart House has an amazing happy hour. Since this was located literally like a second from our condo, we opted to come here. Happy hour starts at 4:30pm. When we arrived we were quickly greeted by the host/hostess stand, asked to sit outside. Please be aware they have a pretty cool bar, which gets crowded for happy hour, but we wanted to sit outside to get a great view of the water. We were quickly seated, given the happy hour menus and a kids menu, and were given water. Our server was lovely, sweet, and attentive. We checked out the HH menu and saw so many great deals, apps started at $6 and went up to $12. We tried a bunch of appetizers: calamari, truffle fries, prime rib sliders, lettuce wraps. I ordered a tito's lemon drop martini and my husband got a beer on tap. Everything came out quickly. To our surprise the lemon drop with Tito's was only $8, what a steal! The appetizers were all delicious and came out quickly and were hot. The view was unparalleled! You had an awesome view of the water, and we even got to see dolphins. Will we be back? A special occasion for my wife and I, we requested if they'd prepare lobster thermidor. Chef Cody German prepared a lovely dish prepared to perfection the thermidor sauce was light and fresh with a level of sophistication rarely seen. We started off with the crab cake appetizer and meatball app. Both were outstanding. The cocktail I started with was a Makers Mark old fashion done perfectly. We were really happy to be able to eat here! My dad was actively looking for waterfront dining (even though it was night time), and this place definitely delivered. We also began our quest for a waterfront restaurant just at about peak dining hours, very underdressed, so we were grateful to be able to get in. We all enjoyed the food and wine we got, and had a lovely dinner. The staff was very attentive and professional. The space itself was pretty big, with big windows to see the ocean when it's not dark out. The atmosphere was pretty elevated, so make sure to plan ahead when coming here. Last Saturday, my friend and I drove to Longboat Key and had dinner at the Chart House, and it was a beautiful dining experience. Our server, Gustavo, was awesome and very attentive. Our drinks were perfect: Torched Apple Manhattan and the Essence Mist. For appetizers, we selected the Kimchi calamari and the shrimp stack, both delicious. Our entrées were good, black grouper, and salmon bronzed w shrimp, although my fish was a little salty to my taste. Everything was perfect to me. Great ambiance, good food and drinks, and excellent service by Gustavo. I can't believe I didn't know about this location as the one in NJ is my favorite restaurant. Last night, we sat at the window with our friends with a beautiful view of the bay. Our first round of drinks took quite a while to get to us. The shrimp and oyster appetizers came quickly and were good. Cheryl, our server, seemed impatient that we wanted to enjoy our drinks and not order our entrees. I'm being generous at three stars. We had a group of 7 for early dining. I had the prime rib. It was dry and flavorless. The caesar salad was very good. Three people had salmon. It was very good. 3 had the tenderloin medallions. 1 was sent back because it was ordered medium rare and came well done. 1 was chewy and the other one was fine. Well here is another review for one of our favorite places on Longboat Key.....the CHART HOUSE!! We were on the island from July 9th thru July 25th and the Chart House was are main dining hot spot.....we just love it there!! Helena the Asst. Manager always welcomes us with open arms and makes our dining experience exceptional, I love her like a daughter!! The staff greet us each and every time we enter the building............actually we are treated like royalty!! My little King Charles Cavalier who is my service animal is also greeted with love and kindness......she makes so many smile, staff and customers!! Michael one of the bartenders is such a sweetheart, he has taken care of us several times............he is excellent at his service and bartending!! We now have our son and daughter-in-law as true clients of the Chart House they absolutely love the happy hour drinks and appetizers.............the best on the island!! My husband and I celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary with the Chart House and it was out of this world!! They again made that occasion so special with the view, drinks and delicious dinner!! Helena made a special dessert for my husband and I because I'm diabetic.....they were delicious sugar free brownies, just fabulous...... what kind of manager does that?? My wife and I have come to Chart House Longboat for over 20+ years. At least 6 times a year if not more. I was completely disappointed in yesterday's experience. I have not walked out of a restaurant before. Yesterday was the first time. The dinner started great. Jessica our server was very attentive. We had a nice window seat. We ordered our meals. We had our drinks, appetizers, soups. Then we were told there was no salmon available. All 3 of the adults had ordered salmon. Particularly my mother who was on this trip whom we were celebrating ordered the chart your course Salmon dish. The assistant general manager Helena came over to our table. Told us we need to order something else. Then proceeded to limit the choices for my mother to the other 2 chart your course options. I said you came to us a half hour after ordering to advise us salmon was not available. At 6pm on a Sunday (why would a fish restaurant be out of salmon??). I then asked what else could my mother order. We were told nothing else for chart the course. Feel free to order anything else on the menu full price. I was not asking for free food for my wife and I. I simply wanted my mother to be able to order another item and her soup and mini lava cake be comped. Helena the asst manager, said no. I found her attitude to be condescending. After saying no Multiple times. I then said to her face this is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. She still said no. We can't do that at $59. (I was not asking for lobster, crab, simply another fish dish.) Needless to say at that point the meal was ruined by her desire for margin rather than customer service. So her poor discretion caused Chart house to lose the bill that night. Second, we cancelled our second reservation there for Thursday. Hope it was worth her $10 margin to give away a customer for life. I was not asking for the store to be given away which I have seen numerous times in the food industry with other customers. That was ridiculous for a 20+ year customer. Looks like Landry's needs to train their managers on customer service. There was nothing made to lighten the experience.
