I've been to quite a few Chart Houses over the years, however this location seemed to cater more to a much younger vibe despite the crowd being mostly older -- probably people in their 60s. The music felt more geared toward people in their 20s and 30s, which made the atmosphere feel a little disconnected from the clientele that was actually there. On top of that, the food and experience felt overpriced for what you received. Overall, it just didn't feel like the classic Chart House experience I was expecting. Would I go back? Probably not. read more

The view from Chart House is truly magnificent, looking out over the water and the New Pass bridge. This is an older restaurant, providing great views for many years. Once we finished inside we walked down by the water to appreciate the spot. We stopped in for Happy Hour, which currently runs from 4:00 to 6:30. The bar area was busy but we were able to find seats along the bar counter. Chart House is a large restaurant with large windows for diners to enjoy. In the bar area the view was not so much, blocked by bar stuff. That's ok, we still enjoyed the location. We also enjoyed our visit. Jackie the bartender was very nice, and quite efficient. I liked watching how well she moved around interacting and mixing drinks. Other customers were friendly and happy. It was just a nice place to belong. I looked forward to some food, specifically their Prime Rib Sliders. They weren't amazing but still good, and the three sliders were larger than I expected. Those, plus some great truffle fries I stole from my wife, made for a nice light dinner. read more

Our plan was to go to the bar area for happy hour and have a beer and some appetizers. The bar area was full, so we sat in the dining part. Even though the hostess said we could have the happy hour menu at our table, the waiter said that this wasn't the case. He suggested to have some appetizers that are part of the early bird menu. We decided on each having a serving of firecracker shrimp and share an artichoke spinach dip. I also enjoyed a Cigar City Jai Alai IPA. The beer is a dollar more than in the bar area. The 8 shrimp were very nice and had a bit of a kick. The dip was a bit disappointing. The spinach was a bit overpowering the rest and I missed the cheese. read more

We wanted to sit in the bar area, order a couple of appetizers, and a beer for my husband. The bar area was completely full, so we moved to the regular restaurant area. The woman who seated us assured us that the bar area appetizer menu was available at the table in the main restaurant. This is not true. In fact, our waiter said he heard her say that and wondered if something changed. He told us that if we wanted to move to the bar area, he would look for a couple of seats. None opened up in the next few minutes and there are limited(choice of only three) $8.00 appetizers available in the dining area. We ordered two Firecracker shrimp appetizers($2.00 more than in the bar area) and one artichoke-spinach dip(Same price as in the bar area). The shrimp had a nice flavor, a bit of a kick. There were 10 shrimp on the plate. The artichoke-spinach dip came with 8 garlic crackers, so a little added flavor from the crackers. The dip was not very flavorful. It was just chopped spinach and artichokes with small amount of baked bread crumbs on top. It was not the traditional spinach-artichoke dip made with cream cheese, mayo and Parmesan. Additionally, the beer my husband ordered was $2.00 more than the same beer in the bar area. (Our waiter told us it would be $1.00 more.) Our waiter was very nice and attentive. We should have arrived a 1/2 hour earlier and we might have been able to eat in the bar area with quite a few more appetizer choices. It was the experience I have had here in the past, a bit disappointing. read more

We've enjoyed dinner at the bar during happy hour twice now. Jackie is an excellent bartender & great at making recommendations & ensuring our drinks were always full despite the bar area being packed! Get there early - it gets crowded quickly! The happy hour menu is the best in the area. It has a wide range of choices of food & drinks & everything we have had has been enjoyable! Sliders, tuna, lettuce wraps, bread basket & calamari are all solid choices. Plenty of parking & great views of the water! read more

While in vacation, we stopped in at Chart House for Happy Hour. There were a variety of items and we tried virtually everything on the menu, including the lettuce wraps, spinach artichoke dip, crispy spicy tuna, lobster tartare, and prime rib sliders. The service from the hostess stand to the table left much to be desired. The restaurant is in a rather rundown location and showed its age. Our server seemed less than interested in picking up our drinks from the bar or circling back to inquire about additional orders. The dining experience was hampered by the awkwardly low (though comfortable) seating and tiny tables. The food was quite good, particularly the crispy spicy tuna and the sliders, though the portions were perhaps even smaller than we predicted (lobster tartare). Despite that, I wasn't inspired to return for dinner based on the overall experience. read more

Chart House on Longboat Key nails the happy hour experience. With unbeatable views of the water, it's the kind of spot where sunsets and cocktails go hand in hand. The happy hour menu has plenty to love--good pours, tasty bites, and prices that make it easy to linger a little longer. The vibe is relaxed but still polished, perfect for sipping a drink, sharing a few apps, and soaking in the coastal scenery. Definitely one of the best spots on the island to wind down. read more

Food was okay but more like an Applebees or some chain style cuisine. Salad bar was good and fresh. Server was awesome and attentive. Ambiance was nice with the view but would have wanted more elevated main courses. There are better options on the island read more

We spent Monday evening at the Chart House for our 29th Anniversary. Everyone was very welcoming. We had no wait and our tables view was spectacular !! The menu even wished Gene and I a Happy Anniversary. That was too cool . Our waitress was LINDSEY and she was spot on. Everything was timed perfectly. She was beautiful and super friendly. All our courses were amazing . No complaints at all. I had the Seabass and lobster risotto and my husband had the prime rib ... delicious. And you have to try the hot lava cake made to order and fabulous. Thank you, Charthouse for making our evening so special. We will be back. Gene and Christine Williams read more

This is a date night special occasion place! Make reservations and ask for a window seat, the whole back wall is a window over looking New Pass at the Gulf of America! There is an "early bird" special with very slightly smaller portions, and add on a salad bar for only $8 more vs $15 for the same bar added to the main menu. They offer a featured wine, ours was a wonderfully flavored Sauvignon Blanc! The special comes with a choice of desserts, we had the lemon sorbet..... ahh-mazingly refreshing end to our salmon done exactly right dinners! Attention to detail is noticed and appreciated throughout Chart House! read more

Excellent view, attractive decor and delicious food. Consistent quality we're used to. I'm taking off one star because it's not the service we're accustomed to at Chart House. It was our wedding anniversary. Although the hostess acknowledged it (and enthusiastically), our server did not, and we also didn't get a personalized menu with our name and occasion across the top. We discussed over dinner that maybe they just stopped doing it, but on the way out we saw a bunch of personalized ones rolled with ribbon, so we know they still do it. Also it's odd.. although our server was nice and knowledgeable, he was not warm and we also had this feeling maybe we were sized up from the start like he didn't feel he was going to get a big check from us. We hadn't even decided what we were getting, looking over the menus, and he asked "Are you ordering from the early bird menu?" I did have it on top because I was reading it after I read the specials menu but hadn't gotten to the main menu yet. So I thought it was weird. Was it because I wasn't dripping in jewels like some of the other patrons, or because we ordered water instead of wine? Not sure, but it shouldn't matter. We should all be treated like they're thrilled to have us there. It's part of why we always loved Chart House all these years. We've only been to the LongBoat Key location once before, but the Tampa one many, many times before it closed, and other Landry's restaurants as well, and we were always treated like VIPs. It was truly wonderful. Not the experience whatsoever this evening. We had to wait quite a while between courses... we were done with our entree and waited 15 minutes twiddling our thumbs till he came by to check on us. Also twice I was completely out of water and had to wait quite a while for a refill each time (a pet peeve of mine...I can't stand waiting for water, and that's rarely an issue in the nicer restaurants). We weren't even asked if we were Landry's Select members, but we noticed the table next us was asked. Anyway, after tonight it's unlikely we'll be back at all and have already chosen a new restaurant we went to earlier this week as our new anniversary restaurant. EDITED TO ADD: The manager Helena called us shortly after we wrote this review to apologize and ask for another chance to wow us. We are impressed by that and as a result will be happy to give Chart House another chance. read more

Service was good, food was fine, but the termite frass falling on our table/plates during the meal was gross. When we arrived at our table in the lounge, one plate had what appeared to be crushed black pepper on it. Upon closer inspection I immediately identified it as dry wood termite frass (poop). Our server noticed the dirty plate and offered to bring a clean one, and I mentioned to him that he may want to alert management to the termite issue, and he agreed. Upon receiving the clean plate, within a minute there was already more frass on it, and we even witnessed one piece landing on the plate. I never touched the plate and moved to the other side of the table, and by the time we were finished, about 45 mins later, I counted 12 termite frass pellets on the plate. Gross! This was a first for me in every way, and not an experience I'd like to repeat. Avoid the 2 top that is the second table on the right when you walk enter the lounge from the waiting area. read more

If you're not coming here for happy hour, you're sleeping on a real treat! We came here based on a recommendation from our Captain from our charter, who said Chart House has an amazing happy hour. Since this was located literally like a second from our condo, we opted to come here. Happy hour starts at 4:30pm. When we arrived we were quickly greeted by the host/hostess stand, asked to sit outside. Please be aware they have a pretty cool bar, which gets crowded for happy hour, but we wanted to sit outside to get a great view of the water. We were quickly seated, given the happy hour menus and a kids menu, and were given water. Our server was lovely, sweet, and attentive. We checked out the HH menu and saw so many great deals, apps started at $6 and went up to $12. We tried a bunch of appetizers: calamari, truffle fries, prime rib sliders, lettuce wraps. I ordered a tito's lemon drop martini and my husband got a beer on tap. Everything came out quickly. To our surprise the lemon drop with Tito's was only $8, what a steal! The appetizers were all delicious and came out quickly and were hot. The view was unparalleled! You had an awesome view of the water, and we even got to see dolphins. Will we be back? You bet if we're in the area! read more

We were really happy to be able to eat here! My dad was actively looking for waterfront dining (even though it was night time), and this place definitely delivered. We also began our quest for a waterfront restaurant just at about peak dining hours, very underdressed, so we were grateful to be able to get in. We all enjoyed the food and wine we got, and had a lovely dinner. The staff was very attentive and professional. The space itself was pretty big, with big windows to see the ocean when it's not dark out. The atmosphere was pretty elevated, so make sure to plan ahead when coming here. Overall nice experience, I'd love to come back on my parents' dime and with a proper reservation. read more

If you're looking for a special night out where the cuisine far exceeded any restaurant I've been at on the key. Don't miss going to the Charthouse in Long Boat Key. A special occasion for my wife and I, we requested if they'd prepare lobster thermidor. Chef Cody German prepared a lovely dish prepared to perfection the thermidor sauce was light and fresh with a level of sophistication rarely seen. We started off with the crab cake appetizer and meatball app. Both were outstanding. The cocktail I started with was a Makers Mark old fashion done perfectly. Last Saturday, my friend and I drove to Longboat Key and had dinner at the Chart House, and it was a beautiful dining experience. Our server, Gustavo, was awesome and very attentive. Our drinks were perfect: Torched Apple Manhattan and the Essence Mist. For appetizers, we selected the Kimchi calamari and the shrimp stack, both delicious. Our entrées were good, black grouper, and salmon bronzed w shrimp, although my fish was a little salty to my taste. Everything was perfect to me. Great ambiance, good food and drinks, and excellent service by Gustavo. I can't believe I didn't know about this location as the one in NJ is my favorite restaurant. Their service is outstanding. The drinks and food were excellent. We sat in a booth- and, if being honest- was the least enjoyable part of the night. We had a group of 7. We had an early rezzie- which allowed most of our table to take advantage of their early dining menu (pretty much half the cost of regular dinner). Received a salad, dinner and dessert- each item was enjoyable. read more

I brought my girlfriend here for her birthday the other weekend. The restaurant is right on the water and a very nice location. Our service was sub-par at best. Our server did not bring us refills unless requested and continuously served other tables while walking right by ours. Our appetizer took over 30 minutes to come out. My girlfriend ordered a three course meal with a salad, entree, and dessert. The server never brought her salad and I had to request it after she had dropped the entrees off and left. My girlfriends entree was barely warm when it came out and the server never came back to ask how our food was. She also never got a steak knife for the steak she ordered. I had to flag the server down after 10 minutes of having our food to let her know that my girlfriends meal was cold and her salad never came out. She did not apologize, just said that she would fix it as soon as possible. It took another 20 minutes for the food to come out and by that time I had already finished my meal. The manager brought her food out the second time, but just dropped the food off and did not apologize for the inconvenience. The food was otherwise pretty good, but the service was so dissapointing that we will not be coming back. read more

We've been to Chart house 3 times in the last year, and will keep coming back! We really enjoy this place. First of all, the location is beautiful, on the water. The inside has nice booths, which we really like. I love the different fun drinks they have. Their presentation is awesome! The food is really good. I love the Mahi Mahi, and my husband always gets the steak with the blue cheese butter. This last time we got the Alaskan king crab, and it was so delicious and fresh! Their dessert is really good, can't go wrong with the molten lava cake. This place is pricey, definitely a place to come for a celebration! read more

I had a lovely birthday meal here recently right up until the check arrived. It seems a price printed on the menu may not be the price indicated on the bill. In my case, having enjoyed an early bird (I'm cranky and old) prime rib dinner with the $5 additional salad bar option, a salad bar charge of $8 stares back on me on the check. Releasing my inner Karen, I "demanded" to speak with a manager--only after our excellent servicer was unable to quell my outrage. General Manger Peter came over promptly and explained basic math to me and the corporation's need for a particular accounting of all the elements of a meal, which apparently explains why my prime rib was $3 less on my check than the menu indicated. See, says Peter, 3 plus 5 equals 8: it all balances out. While he left out the part apologizing for any misunderstanding on my part about Chart House math and stressed that's the way it has to be, according to Corporate, he did say my complaint wasn't the first he'd heard of it from customers. Every night. After decades of eating at Chart House's across the country, and after such a lovely meal, with its more than reasonable price, being tended to by an excellent server, and all while taking in the lovely view of the water, I left recalling the days when a fine restaurant manger would never let a customer leave as disgruntled as I was without offering to make my experience 100% positive. I asked for the $8 charge to be removed--I believe I said I wasn't going to for pay for it!--and told Peter it would've been fine with me had they charged me an additional $3 for the prime rib--but all I got was a math lesson and a bad taste left in my mouth. read more

I'm being generous at three stars. We had a group of 7 for early dining. I had the prime rib. It was dry and flavorless. The caesar salad was very good. Three people had salmon. It was very good. 3 had the tenderloin medallions. 1 was sent back because it was ordered medium rare and came well done. 1 was chewy and the other one was fine.
