Our plan was to go to the bar area for happy hour and have a beer and some appetizers. The bar area was full, so we sat in the dining part. Even though the hostess said we could have the happy hour menu at our table, the waiter said that this wasn't the case. He suggested to have some appetizers that are part of the early bird menu. We decided on each having a serving of firecracker shrimp and share an artichoke spinach dip. I also enjoyed a Cigar City Jai Alai IPA. The beer is a dollar more than in the bar area. The 8 shrimp were very nice and had a bit of a kick. The dip was a bit disappointing. The spinach was a bit overpowering the rest and I missed the cheese.

We wanted to sit in the bar area, order a couple of appetizers, and a beer for my husband. The bar area was completely full, so we moved to the regular restaurant area. The woman who seated us assured us that the bar area appetizer menu was available at the table in the main restaurant. This is not true. In fact, our waiter said he heard her say that and wondered if something changed. He told us that if we wanted to move to the bar area, he would look for a couple of seats. None opened up in the next few minutes and there are limited(choice of only three) $8.00 appetizers available in the dining area. We ordered two Firecracker shrimp appetizers($2.00 more than in the bar area) and one artichoke-spinach dip(Same price as in the bar area). The shrimp had a nice flavor, a bit of a kick. There were 10 shrimp on the plate. The artichoke-spinach dip came with 8 garlic crackers, so a little added flavor from the crackers. The dip was not very flavorful. It was just chopped spinach and artichokes with small amount of baked bread crumbs on top. It was not the traditional spinach-artichoke dip made with cream cheese, mayo and Parmesan. Additionally, the beer my husband ordered was $2.00 more than the same beer in the bar area. (Our waiter told us it would be $1.00 more.) Our waiter was very nice and attentive. We should have arrived a 1/2 hour earlier and we might have been able to eat in the bar area with quite a few more appetizer choices. It was the experience I have had here in the past, a bit disappointing.

We've enjoyed dinner at the bar during happy hour twice now. Jackie is an excellent bartender & great at making recommendations & ensuring our drinks were always full despite the bar area being packed! Get there early - it gets crowded quickly! The happy hour menu is the best in the area. It has a wide range of choices of food & drinks & everything we have had has been enjoyable! Sliders, tuna, lettuce wraps, bread basket & calamari are all solid choices. Plenty of parking & great views of the water!

Food was okay but more like an Applebees or some chain style cuisine. Salad bar was good and fresh. Server was awesome and attentive. Ambiance was nice with the view but would have wanted more elevated main courses. There are better options on the island

While in vacation, we stopped in at Chart House for Happy Hour. There were a variety of items and we tried virtually everything on the menu, including the lettuce wraps, spinach artichoke dip, crispy spicy tuna, lobster tartare, and prime rib sliders. The service from the hostess stand to the table left much to be desired. The restaurant is in a rather rundown location and showed its age. Our server seemed less than interested in picking up our drinks from the bar or circling back to inquire about additional orders. The dining experience was hampered by the awkwardly low (though comfortable) seating and tiny tables. The food was quite good, particularly the crispy spicy tuna and the sliders, though the portions were perhaps even smaller than we predicted (lobster tartare). Despite that, I wasn't inspired to return for dinner based on the overall experience.

Chart House on Longboat Key nails the happy hour experience. With unbeatable views of the water, it's the kind of spot where sunsets and cocktails go hand in hand. The happy hour menu has plenty to love--good pours, tasty bites, and prices that make it easy to linger a little longer. The vibe is relaxed but still polished, perfect for sipping a drink, sharing a few apps, and soaking in the coastal scenery. Definitely one of the best spots on the island to wind down.

Excellent service from host to server. A great view try to sit window side. Fantastic experience, meal from appetizers to main course cooked to perfection. Have eaten in other Chart Houses and as this one highly recommend.

We spent Monday evening at the Chart House for our 29th Anniversary. Everyone was very welcoming. We had no wait and our tables view was spectacular !! The menu even wished Gene and I a Happy Anniversary. That was too cool . Our waitress was LINDSEY and she was spot on. Everything was timed perfectly. She was beautiful and super friendly. All our courses were amazing . No complaints at all. I had the Seabass and lobster risotto and my husband had the prime rib ... delicious. And you have to try the hot lava cake made to order and fabulous. Thank you, Charthouse for making our evening so special. We will be back. Gene and Christine Williams

Had a 4:00pm reservation. Greeted and seated immediately at a gulf front table. The view was amazing. We watched the birds and dolphins throughout the entire meal. Ordered the stone crab claws appetizer and the shrimp and lobster carbonara. Both dishes were delicious. Great place for a nice date night.

Excellent view, attractive decor and delicious food. Consistent quality we're used to. I'm taking off one star because it's not the service we're accustomed to at Chart House. It was our wedding anniversary. Although the hostess acknowledged it (and enthusiastically), our server did not, and we also didn't get a personalized menu with our name and occasion across the top. We discussed over dinner that maybe they just stopped doing it, but on the way out we saw a bunch of personalized ones rolled with ribbon, so we know they still do it. Also it's odd.. although our server was nice and knowledgeable, he was not warm and we also had this feeling maybe we were sized up from the start like he didn't feel he was going to get a big check from us. We hadn't even decided what we were getting, looking over the menus, and he asked "Are you ordering from the early bird menu?" I did have it on top because I was reading it after I read the specials menu but hadn't gotten to the main menu yet. So I thought it was weird. Was it because I wasn't dripping in jewels like some of the other patrons, or because we ordered water instead of wine? Not sure, but it shouldn't matter. We should all be treated like they're thrilled to have us there. It's part of why we always loved Chart House all these years. We've only been to the LongBoat Key location once before, but the Tampa one many, many times before it closed, and other Landry's restaurants as well, and we were always treated like VIPs. It was truly wonderful. Not the experience whatsoever this evening. We had to wait quite a while between courses... we were done with our entree and waited 15 minutes twiddling our thumbs till he came by to check on us. Also twice I was completely out of water and had to wait quite a while for a refill each time (a pet peeve of mine...I can't stand waiting for water, and that's rarely an issue in the nicer restaurants). We weren't even asked if we were Landry's Select members, but we noticed the table next us was asked. Anyway, after tonight it's unlikely we'll be back at all and have already chosen a new restaurant we went to earlier this week as our new anniversary restaurant. EDITED TO ADD: The manager Helena called us shortly after we wrote this review to apologize and ask for another chance to wow us. We are impressed by that and as a result will be happy to give Chart House another chance.

    Termite frass
    Paul O.

Service was good, food was fine, but the termite frass falling on our table/plates during the meal was gross. When we arrived at our table in the lounge, one plate had what appeared to be crushed black pepper on it. Upon closer inspection I immediately identified it as dry wood termite frass (poop). Our server noticed the dirty plate and offered to bring a clean one, and I mentioned to him that he may want to alert management to the termite issue, and he agreed. Upon receiving the clean plate, within a minute there was already more frass on it, and we even witnessed one piece landing on the plate. I never touched the plate and moved to the other side of the table, and by the time we were finished, about 45 mins later, I counted 12 termite frass pellets on the plate. Gross! This was a first for me in every way, and not an experience I'd like to repeat. Avoid the 2 top that is the second table on the right when you walk enter the lounge from the waiting area.

The elegance of the dining room atmosphere, the wait staff, and presentation of the food was not overlooked and executed to a level where you can tell the staff truly cares about the diner's experience. The pre fixe menu is simple enough to not get lost in, and wide enough to keep you coming back for more. Everything we ordered was delicious, unique, and contained a French twist. The special was tilefish, we ordered several kinds of seafood including lobster, crab, and snapper while I had the lamb saddle. Personally speaking the blue crab avocado appetizer was something I had to order because of all the pictures I had seen, and it did not disappoint. The romulade alongside the dish gave it a fresh, elegant bite which was rich but bright. The Colorado lamb saddle had the texture of a well prepared filet mignon perfectly baked inside of a puff pastry. I was calling it a lamb wellington for fun, but that may have been the most I have ever enjoyed a lamb dish. It was hearty, and perfectly balanced between tender meat, crisp crust, and savory sauce. The pineapple dessert was light, refreshing, and felt like a unique cross between a tangy desert and a sweet airy coconut whipped ice cream. I was however very jealous of the others that ordered the rich chocolate soufflé. 10/10. I would say this is a necessary experience for anyone that lives in the area.

My wife was concerned with the volume as she thought it would upset the patrons and the restaurant staff, but it did the opposite....everyone was singing along with a smile on their face...recognizing that I was having the time of my life, bringing back memories of BELLA NAPOLI! We were seated in the back next to a serving/drinking station across from a group of 6 10 year old girls...whose parents were eating outside. The noise level was so unbearable that we asked to be moved outside, which they accommodated. But the noise level was strike number 1. After we were seated outside we waited. And waited. And waited more, roughly 20 minutes before we finally caught the attention of a waitress. Strike 2. My wife order the white bean soup for an appetizer and the Branzino. I ordered the special...Veal Osso Buco over risotto The white bean soup was delicious. 4 out of 5 stars. The Branzino was a little fishy tasting, which it should not. We order Branzino all the time and it's never tasted fishy. But the most disturbing part of the meal was the bait and switch using Pork in place of Veal for the Veal Osso Buco. Yes you read that right. It was Pork. Not Veal. The meat was gray, fatty and not very tender. Veal is tan or light brown, extremely tender and very lean. Charging $49.95 for Veal Osso Buco would have been reasonable. Trying to pass off Pork as Veal for that price is down-right criminal. Strike 3. AN ABSOLUTE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.! WE WILL NEVER GO BACK!!! Response to Ceasar D: the parent's of the 6 little girls (who you must admit were quite loud and unsupervised) were sitting inside. All of the children's parents and some other adults, about 14 adults in total, were seated outside. So please don't try and pass this off as if they were celebrating Father's Day. They weren't even sitting with their "Fathers". It simply demonstrates poor restaurant management. The wait for a server outside was so long, my wife had actually suggested we leave. I truly wish we had. Regarding the Branzino, if it HAD been fresh it would not have tasted fishy! As for the Osso Buco, I'm a culinary expert and know the difference between Veal and Pork. I knew it was pork as soon as I tasted it! The fat was a dead giveaway. Perhaps now that this has been posted, you'll start using veal or be truthful and simply let your patrons know you're serving Pork Osso Buco! I stand by my original post.
