The service, however, left more to be desired, especially from medical professionals. My check-in felt methodical and unfriendly. Then, it was lost in translation between the front desk and the medical staff. No one bothered to apologize for the extra 30 minute wait. While I was waiting, I overheard a patient saying she was there, by phone request, to sign a document. After receiving the same methodical, unfriendly service, she was told they couldn't find the document, but IF they found it, they would call her back. After she left, they made negative remarks about how it had been several days since they called and she was 'just now' coming into the office. Then, I heard the same person who was supposed to call when she found the document say she found it, IF the patient calls back. I wanted to yell "BUT YOU SAID YOU'D CALL HER!!" I also overheard several other phone calls regarding patient's issues. On my first visit, I overheard the medical staff chatting negatively, almost gossiping, about patients, too. Anyone heard of HIPAA? Once I was called back, I felt the friendliness and professionalism continued to be lacking. I feel that Dr. Habib did not do a good job of actually listening to me, but instead seemed to only pick out bits and pieces of what I was saying and proceeded to go off on a tangent, to the point that she offered a prescription for an antidepressant which was completely unrelated to my medical issue. We never even discussed my lab results (of which some tests were left off the lab order) which was WHY I WAS THERE, before she suggested I make an appointment with a specialist. I told her on my first visit, I no longer wanted to see a specialist, because they didn't focus on the whole person, i.e., why I made an appointment with Internal Medicine in the first place. I want to figure out how to get ALL the dominos in order, not just one of them. But, per usual, she didn't listen then either. When I mentioned I'd need a medication refill, she told me I'd be okay if I went a little while without meds until I could see the specialist. I felt the lab work and both appointments with this office were a complete waste of my time. IMHO, steer clear of this medical office. The patient is NOT the priority.

Completed the online forms, set up a scheduled phone call, received confirmation of time & day of phone call only to be ghosted. Despite an email at 9AM stating that the call would be in 1 hour, I've yet to be contacted. One can only ascertain that the $6K + in membership fees is meaningless to them if they expect potential clients to track them down to give them money. It also makes one wonder if, after forking over 4 figures a year, the difficulty in getting to a physician during non-business hours. Let's face it, if the first impression is this bad, it does not give hope for a positive experience thereafter. Although irritated after having my time wasted, I'm going to put this experience in the win column. Dr. Wang is a compassionate doctor that actually cares for her patients and ensures they receive the best possible care. She's very thorough in what she does and if there's a medical issue she can't handle, she directs you to the one who can. She makes sure I follow-up with all of my other physicians and get appropriate tests as needed. No better family physician anywhere. I was very disappointed in hearing of her leaving and will follow her wherever she goes. Commonwealth, you are losing a fantastic doctor. Sad day for you. Five stars for Dr. Wang and her nurse, Robin. Ruth Banks

The care and compassion for patients left once nurse practitioner Julie left. I big shame. They need to close down and start over again. (UPDATE:) I received a certified letter in the mail from the office manager. She stated that they were withdrawing further care and treatment effective immediately, due to my negative review. They also stated that I am expected to pay my balance within 30 days or they will send it to collections because they are removing my payment plan. Wow, this is completely laughable. Do yourself a favor and find a real practice that will show you care and concern. Not one that will refuse you service because of an opinion. Lucky for me I am relatively healthy, but I would hate to see someone with advanced medical problems get a letter like this. There are many kind, compassionate doctors out there. This practice is beyond help.

When I had my files transferred from my previous out of state doctor, they claimed the files were never received - yet my previous doctor sent them twice. Finally, I had to coordinate between previous doctor and this office to tell them as the files were being faxed over. Absolutely ridiculous. After the files were finally sent over, I was sent for additional testing by the physician to another local doctor. 3 days ago, this other doctor sent over the testing results and I am being told YET again they have not received the files. I can understand how sure, maybe the first time from my out of state doctor the files got lost or maybe they didn't get sent when they said...but now it's TWO doctors and they've not received files that have been said they were sent. Inept! Dude, I am just trying to get a medically necessarily prescription refilled.

There are a lot of buildings in the medical complex and you have to drive up to the door of each…read morebuilding to see the addresses -- it's the building with the big OrthoVirginia sign at the top -- it's on the 3rd floor, so add time for parking, walking, and waiting for the elevator. It was a very busy place. I arrived for my 930 new patient appointment at about 935. There was a registration line of several people. When it was my turn, I was greeted by a friendly person and went through the check-in and copay procedure, including digital forms on a tablet. I then had to wait in line, again, to give the tablet back. Then, it was off to wait. About 1020, (45 mins later), I was called back to be advised I arrived too late and would need to reschedule. I mentioned I was only about 8 mins late (including waiting in the registration line) and was advised new patients are supposed to arrive 15 mins early, so I was outside the 15 minute window. I get the late policies. I felt horrible for being a couple minutes late, but I was definitely within the 15 minute window. However, I wasn't advised I needed to arrive by 915, I was told my appointment was at 930 and to bring my ID, insurance card, and list of medications (I took notes). And, if I was outside the arrival window, why was I allowed to register, pay my co-payment, and sit for 45 minutes just to be told to reschedule? Patients are usually advised of late arrival at registration. Thanks for wasting my time off from work. Will I get my $25 back? (It applied to the next visit!) I'm adding one star for the friendliness of the registration clerk and the doctor. I was able to reschedule the next week, and the reviews and recommendations for this doctor are overwhelmingly great, so we will see how it goes and I will update. UPDATE: I went back for appointment, previous results in hand, and asked to run the same labs, stating valid reasons, including an issue I had previously that was detected by running a lab not being ordered, and also that we couldn't compare apples to oranges, etc. The first request was refused and the second request was ignored, so I made an appointment with a different doctor. Side Rant: It is so hard to find a doctor that will work with you and not ON you. No one knows my body and my medical history better than ME! After all, I'm paying for a service. It's like going to a restaurant and having the server tell you what you are going to eat. LOL Feel free to message me recommendations! IMHO, the office staff could use some training in scheduling. Be sure to take extra time off work so you can arrive 15 mins earlier than your appointment or risk having to reschedule! She seems like a great doctor, just not one willing to work WITH me for my particular issue. YMMV

When I talk to Dr. McKenzie, I repeatedly note that she is two things: caring and competent. I find that this to be an ideal mixture for me. I don't just want a doctor who is JUST attentive to my concerns and is kind (which Dr McKenzie definitely is), but who doesn't seem highly skilled at their job. I also don't want the other extreme- a doctor who seems well-read and passionate about medical concerns (which she also is!) but who doesn't listen. Dr. McKenzie is a good balance of both of these positive traits! I feel confident that she wants to get down to the bottom of what is bothering me, and not just give me a prescription. In fact, she has been helpful in guiding me to stop taking some meds that were harmful. She is funny and passionate about healthcare. I feel well cared for when I leave her office!
