The meat has no seasoning (unless you consider cheese a seasoning). Pimp's sandwich was unseasoned. Sauce made the bun a soggy mess. We had curly fries which were completely underwhelming. The place could use a good cleaning. The counter near the self serve pop dispenser was sticky. Fortunately it's not warm enough. Had it been, we would have been dining with flies. We had a really rough week recently--our daughter had been in the hospital, our fridge went out, we…read morewere running on zero sleep, and work had been stressful. On the way home, we stopped at Portillo's in Livonia for a late lunch, just trying to get through the day. The kind woman taking our order asked how our day was going, and my husband honestly said it had been rough because our daughter had just gotten out of the hospital. She immediately expressed genuine concern, told us she was sorry, and said she hoped our day would get better. When we pulled up to the next window, that same sweet employee came over and asked if we would like some free dessert. We thought that alone was incredibly thoughtful. Then she asked us to pull forward for a moment. Shortly after, the manager and a couple of other employees came outside with our food. The manager told us he was going to comp our entire meal and said he understood how hard it can be when your child is sick because he has kids too. They all wished us well and showed such kindness. I truly wanted to cry. My husband and I were exhausted physically and emotionally, and this simple act of compassion meant more than they probably realize. It completely turned our day around. If anyone from Portillo's sees this--thank you. Your kindness made a difference for our family when we really needed it. If you ever think a small act of kindness doesn't matter, think again.

I think I see why. I tried their burger last week. It was good and a decent value, but this much-lauded Italian Beef sandwich was a huge letdown. The beef was very low grade and wasn't at all the generous portion I was led to believe. The bun was great and there was a lot of it, but several local sub shops offer better sandwiches and value. Very disappointing! There are plenty of other options in the area that I will choose before Portillo's. Maybe I'll check back in a while to see if they've improved.
