Well used, multi aged playground just off the main street of Mallow. It has swings, slides,…read moreroundabouts, rockets, climbing frames, ladders and plenty of space to run about. It's close proximity to the shops, Mallow Town Park, the river, Mallow House and Castle. Our 9, 8 & 5 yr old were kept entertained. The playground is super busy with lots of kids playing and hanging out. For parents... positives: there are lots of seats and rubbish bins negatives: limited parking outside the park on a very busy road and does not have adult exercise equipment the new parks boast of. Most importantly however, there are no toilet facilities. I took off 2 stars because of the lack of toilets and parking, along with the park being a little more aged than others we have visited. As another reviewer pointed out, the equipment could do with a pressure wash and graffiti cleaned. In saying all this we would stop here again if we needed to stretch our legs and need a break in the car journey. Edit: found public pay toilets up the hill as you head into the main street. A sign at the playground telling people would be handy.

They have done up the park over the past few years and it looks great. There is a river, some streams and canals and much more to see in this park. I even found a fairy path this morning and I absolutely loved it, it is a great idea for kids and adults a like! There are places to play soccer/football and a playground for children as well. I really enjoy this park and recommend to go there if you are in the Ballincollig area

FARRAN WOOD Been a while since I visited Farran Wood or…read moreFarran Forest Park to give it its full title. It is signposted from the main Cork-Macroom Road at Srelane (Ovens) and the entry fee is a fiver per vehicle. There is plenty of parking, toilets and a playground. The first and probably main attraction is the wildlife enclosure with large pond. Here, the red and fallow deer (including some very young inquisitive animals) come right up to the fence to say hello. The pond attracts duck and geese. There are two signed walks around the wood, the longer of which takes you down to the banks of the Inniscarra Reservoir, where the River Llee is held up to form a lake. The National Rowing Centre, which has its own entrance, is located within the park on the shores of the lake. Enjoyed my walk around the other day, even though the rain came down before the finish. Still, there was ample shelter under the trees. Headed then for the old shooting lodge which has been converted into a woodland ecology display centre but that was locked up. Temporary or permanent? There was no sign up but I have sent a query off to the Coillte and I'll let you know the answer.

We got to see lots and lots of farmyard animals including Stevie and Mags - two little lambs. Also Humphrey a retired camel, a cow and newborn calf, pigs and piglets and birds of all shapes and sizes. The ride on the barrel train was great fun. The restaurant had good quality sandwiches, burgers and snacks which were fresh and tasty. All in all a great day out!!

It is close to where I live which is one reason I frequent it fairly regularly with my toddler. One thing I wish is that they would offer the parent and toddler group during the other days of the week rather than only Mondays. Sometimes they inflate the bouncy slide during toddler mornings and other times they don't. Their coffee could be better and served in larger cups but that's a complaint coming from a coffee lover so take it with a grain of salt. I do think they could take some cues from other places to revitalize and ramp up the business some more as they seem to just be happy rolling along as they are without improving while other places are constantly striving to increase business with great offers (like loyalty cards), but overall it is great value for money .
