It was a stop that was unplanned but happy we found it! - air conditioned nice restrooms with changing table - parking is near the playground - drinking fountain outside and inside with a water bottle fill station. - splash pad for cooling off May-Sept - bike trails nearby - covered shelter to relax It has a playground that is hot, hot, hot but your kids can cook off at the splash pad adjacent to the playground. It has a neat little train but you can't go into it at all. Fun to look at and for photo ops. Parking lot is close enough to see your kids from the car. There's a porta potty next to the splash pad right now or you can walk to a nearby very new updated building with facilities. I will add the photos of the building and bathrooms. Covered shelter with two picnic tables next to the park.

Good park area. It's located south of downtown. There's plenty of parking. It also is located by a bike trail so it's a good place for getting off. The building is now used as a bathroom so it's a bike trail rest stop. It seems clean. Pick up some brochures about what to do around here. There's lots you can get to by using the bike trail.

It is located on the outskirts of Peterson Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. It is also located behind a shooting range, which is important, because when it is active, you have to take the long way around to get to the prairie and field. The road getting into the filed is pretty tight and can barely fit two cars. If you are going to the field or prairie there are two designated parking lots that you can park in, one on each side. The Prairie is maintained as a pristine botanical prairie with only a few exhibits, much the same way the Wright brothers found it in 1904. The perimeter or the field was marked with blue flags, which have since blown away and just have the flag poles remaining. You will find information boards along the perimeter of the field and a replica of the Wright Brothers hanger and aircraft catapult right behind the range. A bench to sit on it located in that area as well, facing the road. There is a restroom located near the field in one of the parking areas. This area has a few hiking trails in the prairie and just walking/running the road surrounding the field would give you a good workout. It is not very well traveled and somewhat isolated. It would make for some good running. Outside of the shooting range, it is a very peaceful spot. This is a good place for history buffs and ecological people alike to visit. It would probably be a better use of your time if you coupled it with a visit to the Interpretive Center, Wright Memorial, and/or the US Air Force Museum. You can easily make a day of it. I highly recommend checking this place out. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and sure that you will too Fun Fact: The prairie was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990 and was opened to the public.

I went down the stone stairs ... they were slippery but was glad i still could manage them. They have changed things ... added wooden pathways and more water at the bottom of the stairs. I'd hoped walk to both waterfalls. But wearing new shoes and saw it was muddy. So just headed back up the stairs to the car. They have bird feeders at the buildings. Nice place to hike. Parking is 10 bucks.

I'd never been here but the lovely Mrs went to camp here with her 8th grade class back in the 80's. I'd never been so was kind of curious about it as I was under the impression that it's just a park where kids could learn about nature and all its magic. What I found out is that it is an incredible wandering path. Lots of things to see like waterfalls, rock formations and even a path where you get from one side to the other by stepping from stone to stone. Lots of folks, lots of pets, big and small. The education center had a park employee out there with a bigger falcon, then a smaller falcon and then the gorgeous barn owl. The folks inside the education center were incredibly helpful and knew a ton about the inhabitants of the 'enclosures'. My favorite was the teeny tiny Megatron who's the smallest and cutest owl I've ever seen. Park isn't marked very well. They suggest you download the digital map from the QR code as you walk toward the very nice restroom facility. This is very nice but... the signs(pieces of paper with numbers written on them) with the corresponding numbers from the map are either missing, blurred due to water or faded from the sun. I'm hoping one of the Boy Scouts we saw while here takes it upon themselves to start their petition to create more permanent signs for their 'Eagle' comprehensive service project. There were so many times we were like...where are we. Plenty of trash to pick up so if you're like me, bring a small grocery bag and leave it better than you came. Thank you to the nice couple with the long haired dachshund who climbed the rocky pylon to help me get the cup that had been left there. It makes me happy that there are people still out there willing to help me with such simple but worthwhile side projects.

The park has a lot of empty green space leading up to the parking area. The centerpiece of the area however, is the Wrights Memorial, a tribute to the father's of flight. The memorial is pretty basic and is located in a small plaza to to top of a couple of sets of accessible stairs. It consist of a 20 feet tall marble structure that is surround by a wide flagstone terrace. There is a bronze plaque on the tall stone structure that has a torch with wings and is "IN COMMEMORATION OF THE COURAGE AND PRESERVATION OF WILBUR AND ORVILLE WRIGHT". It goes on to summarize their accomplishments. You will also see 4 bronze plaques, 2 on each side, along the plaza's short walls. One of the plaques lists the names of all 119 pioneer pilots who were taught to fly at Huffman Prairie. Another chronicles the 160 flights the Wrights made over the prairie in 1904 and 1905. The memorial was dedicated in 1940 and Orville Wright, who was 69 at the time, was actually in attendance in 1940. When building the memorial several small Indian mounds discovered. The memorial is located atop of what is known as Wright Brothers Hill, overlooks Huffman Prairie Flying Field, where Wilbur and Orville conducted tests of their early flying machines. Right behind the memorial is an overlook that gives you a spectacular view of the filed. There are also some benches to take sit on and take it all in as well. This is a nice place to continue your birth of flight tour and should be coupled with visits to Huffman Field and the Air Force Museum to make a full day of it. If you are not eating there and the interpretive center is closed, you will probably not spend a lot of time there. It is still pretty neat and is a decent place to take a lunch break and have a picnic or just look out from the overlook.
