Although the interpretive center was closed due to Covid, the view of the Dayton airport and the self guided tour outside was breathtaking. We spent about 20 minutes exploring the grounds as well as the historic Indian mounds which these high grounds are famous for. The signs covered avionics history, to the great floods, and the first type of flight training.

The interpretive center and Wright Memorial have a great location up on top of hill, which also provides a great view over Huffman Prairie. The area has been nicely maintained with picnic tables, some shaded by nearby trees. There is a nice paved parking lot available. The interpretive center features some great displays about the Wright Brothers and their efforts to fly. There is a small gift shop area near the front desk, and you should be sure to look up because there is a variety of plane models overhead. They have a helpful handout that lets you identify each plane too. They offer two Junior Ranger programs, the site one and a Junior Prairie Ranger. The rangers are friendly and helpful and happy to answer any questions. It is located alongside the Wright Patterson Air Force Base, so you'll want to pay attention to the signage as you approach the gate. The staff can also give you advice on the best way to reach the actual Huffman Prairie, as many GPS systems try to direct you to drive onto the base (which you do not need to do). Very informative site with some nice activities to keep the kids engaged!

I'm giving this five stars due to the staff. This was a great place to stop to get organized regarding our Wright Brothers tourist stops. The woman there took her time and explained all the attractions to us. The center is small but informative. The Wright Memorial surprised me because I thought it would have statues of the Wright Brothers but it didn't. See my picture. Also it was a bit confusing because the entrance isn't really clearly marked but you go in the gate and up the hill.

The collection is large and interesting, and varied. Plus, they have many interactive areas for kids. They had several scavenger hunts, a play area downstairs, plus a craft area upstairs. Kid K loved it. Well, she was creeped out by some of the older European paintings. She seems to lean more to modern art. We spent a couple of hours and could easily have stayed longer. Staff were uniformly great, helpful and patient and friendly. Price is reasonable. Many cool sculptures outside. When we went they were preparing for a wedding, and this is a good place for something like that. Definitely will be back.
