Charles Morris was highly recommended in the area as a family-friendly place where I could bring my baby. I'm three months postpartum and was really looking forward to some self-care. Everyone was very friendly and kind, and I was even able to book a last-minute appointment to have my eyebrows done, which I appreciated. However, the cost of the nail services is insanely high compared to nearby salons. I paid $92 for a simple solid blue color, and my nails started chipping just four days later. About a week later, one nail actually began peeling off, so I called and gave them the opportunity to fix it. I also mentioned fixing my eyebrows, as they were not shaped and I was never given a mirror to see the final result. I was scheduled to come back two weeks later (keeping in mind that I called only one week after the chipping started). I asked if I would be charged for the chipped nails and was told yes, because I was outside of their "two-week window" -- even though I had already called a week earlier. At that point, I was going to be charged around $45 just to fix the chips, which is nearly the cost of a new set elsewhere. I originally started visiting Charles Morris Salon due to good reviews from family. I first started visiting and had good experiences with the staff for eyebrow appointments. Before a vacation I booked to get a full set of eyelashes, facial, and haircut with toner added. First, I had shown up to my hair appointment with Eleni. She refused to perform a toner on my hair because she said that I do not understand what a toner is and it does not change the color of my hair. I reiterated that I understand a toner does not change the color of my hair but can take out brassy tones and only lasts a few weeks at most; in addition I have had my hair toned many times by other salons with no issues. Once we got to the bowl to wash my hair, she had rinsed my hair but then abruptly stopped because she said at that point she would prefer to do an all over semi- permanent color. Once we got back to the chair she then said that she will not dye my hair at all, but she can perform a simple cut because she no longer had time to perform my scheduled services ... then sprayed my hair with a water mist in order to do so. I did then agree to get a cut. The cut was an uneven blunt cut, upon arriving home my best-friend asked me why I would take scissors to my own hair due to how uneven and crooked the cut was. The next day I arrived to get my eyelashes done with Bella. I had followed the aftercare instructions as this is also not my first time getting eyelash extensions done; they all fell off less than two days later. The photo provided is one day after the eyelashes were done. Additionally, the salon was selling handmade air fresheners which I had purchased for my brand new car that is less than one month old. About a week later, it had been a hot day and the oil from the air freshener had spilt all over my car. When I went to gently wipe the oil off, it also took off the finishing of my vehicle. I then attempted to get into contact with the store manager for over one week, I had called three times and left my name and phone number. I was promised a call back all three times, but had never received one. I then was able to call when the manager Sabrina was in store (4 calls at this point), where she told me the store does not give any kind of refunds, but I can come get my hair fixed by another stylist. I also offered to send her photos of my hair and car, but she said she will only look at those things in person. She also told me she checked the cameras and that I was taken to a bowl (not what I was arguing.. yes she did take me to a bowl, but she never actually washed my hair) and that I must have mis-used the car air freshener. Overall, I felt the manager was not sympathetic or apologetic for the situation in any regards. I had never shown up to a hair appointment and been refused a service which was booked and not had one service be done in entirely or with a professional who I did not feel was there to help me feel and look my best. I shared my story with close friends, my best friend also had her lashes done at this salon around same time as we were going on vacation together and hers also fell out. My sister then shared she had a bad experience with a haircut, and my manager shared that she had a bad coloring experience and service experience with the store manager, so she switched salons. To conclude, please be aware before taking your money to this salon. Unfortunately, my brand new may 2026 vehicle is not repairable. I did take my business to another salon who were able to fix my haircut and had no problem toning my hair to get my desired effects. read more

At first I liked my hair when I was in the salon, but then when I got home and styled my hair I realized just how messed up it was. I had to go to another salon to get it fixed. To the credit of this salon they did offer to "fix" it but I didn't trust that they could. The stylists was very friendly but I don't believe it was done correctly, my highlights on one side were blended, the other side was chunky and none of them went to the root. I also paided for a toner but my hair was yellow and looked like it was weeks old. I would suggest if you are going to go to the salon you pay for a higher level stylists because the stylists who are starting out here don't have the skills they should. I found out I was paying at least $15 more each time for something I didn't need. my appointment was canceled at least once a month not by me. I went in to get my second ever balayage. I wanted to get a nice cinnamon color for the fall. I got ORANGE yes ladies ORANGE! to cover up her mistake she put full on red and promised it would not fade to orange.... well it did! I was this weird red- orange color with only 2 washes! I called them and they agreed to have me come back and "fix" my hair. I of course didn't want to go back to the same stylist but felt like I shouldn't have to pay another dime to get my hair back to a normal color. so back I went. The best way to fix it was to go back to a brown color which is not at all what I wanted but I went with it. today I finally washed my hair.... It just shows a lack of respect and consideration. This salon wants to present the image that they're a classy upstanding salon but really they just charge a lot and have an attitude. Had a very unfortunate experience trying to get my 11 yo daughter scheduled for a haircut today. My wife and 3 daughters have been going to CM on and off for at least the last 8 years and have had mostly positive experiences - today we ran into "the dictator" and she wasn't budging! We went online, found a time slot, and called the salon to reserve because their online system is tricky (being as polite as I can). The lady asked me 20 questions, and when I said my daughter was 11, she said they had no availability. I asked about the 1:45 opening online, and she said she could not schedule it because my daughter needed a consultation first. I mentioned we had been coming there for years and she found us in the system with our last name butchered several different ways, which is probably why we had trouble booking on-line......simple problem, simple solution.....right? Not so fast with Dictator Karen! She insists the reason we could not book on-line was because my daughter needed a consultation, even though she acknowledged we were in the system and my daughter had been their several times. Trying to remain polite, I asked if I could simply reserve the 1:45, and she said she had to check with the stylist.....I asked why that was necessary and Dictator Karen began explaining that she had been there for 24 years....yada yada yada....now I'm getting pissed - we both remained cordial, but I mentioned that she was making it very easy for me to simply schedule at another place. She repeated her years of service and I decided that was enough and we ended the call. Now my wife's upset, and against my better judgement, I figure out how to reserve the 1:45 appt. online, pay online, and get confirmed. My wife shows up with my daughter and Dictator Karen says she cannot have the appointment because my daughter needs a consultation first and that I was nasty on the phone. I may have been a little terse, but I certainly wasn't nasty (neither was Dictator Karen - she was actually somewhat pleasant). Whether it's my fault or not, we will be taking future cuts, styles, updo's, highlights, and everything else that my girls need to another business. My opinion is they didn't want to do the kids cut because it costs less - either way, I hope others don't have the same issues. read more

10 days into a Gel X manicure, my nails popped off. I called the salon to see what they could do. They did nothing. No 'I'm sorry this happened', no 'Let's give you a new manicure', zip zero zilch. All I got was, 'there's no guarantee for the longevity of your manicure'. I would have accepted $10 off my next service for what happened. They didn't even offer me that. Unfortunately, I do not feel as comfortable giving 4-5 stars as I did a few years ago. I am finding that it seems more difficult to get an appointment. The last four or five times that I had a nail appt, the manicurist was 1/2 hour late calling me for my appt. I changed to another manicurist and so far I have been happier. I would feel more respected if more masks were worn by operators and customers. If one doesn't feel comfortable being asked if one is vaccinated....then cover your nose and mouth because you are very close to our faces...just by the nature of your job. I recently moved to the Chicago suburbs from Madison, WI and was looking for a new hair salon. After reading reviews, very in-depth research, and asking friends and family I finally found Charles Morris. It seemed like I had absolutely nothing to worry about. I was looking for a balayage style hair coloring and even brought multiple pictures of exactly what I wanted. I have very light hair naturally and have always just gotten blonde highlights, never having all-over color put in. Long story short, I left the salon in tears as I had an extremely dark all-over color put in around my roots, and pretty much half of my head. The color was dark red/brown. I have NEVER had this dark or a color in my hair so it was quite a shock to me. It did not even come close to resembling the picture that I brought in. My hair looked like I attempted to color it at home; ending up very light blonde on the ends and extremely dark near the roots. Not only was the color horrendous, it also was incredibly splotchy and inconsistent. No toner was used on my hair because the stylist claimed, "you don't need it". My hair was orange, brassy and blotchy. Upon letting the salon know I was not happy with the color, I was told by a manager over the phone that "it's just hair, you can fix it". This solidified for me the idea that I would absolutely not return to this salon despite their offer to fix it at no cost to me. After letting the manager know I was hesitant to let the same stylist attempt to fix the bad color, I was then told in person by the same manager, "I don't understand why you'd be uncomfortable with that" and "it's not that bad". I was treated like I was in the wrong completely, until finally I requested a consultation with a different stylist. This stylist was more senior and seemed to be very knowledgeable. She was the first person at this salon to admit the dark color should have never been placed on my hair. Despite this stylist seeming very experienced, I couldn't return to this salon and give them my business after such a huge mistake and being treated so poorly afterwards. Luckily, I have an amazing stylist back in Madison, WI and made the three hour drive in order to salvage my hair. I am sure that one stylist is not reflective of the entire salon as I believe there are most likely amazing and talented people that work here. I, unfortunately, did not experience that based on my visit. I was severely disappointed in the service that I received and cannot see myself returning. read more

I'm a guy who's been going to CMS for about 4+ years. My wife started going there before me and recommended to me since she was always happy with their service, colors and cuts. My wife had been going to one of her friend's for color and I never really liked it. She tried out Charles Morris (stylist - Brook) and I thought she looked great. I asked my wife to keep going to see Brook since I thought her hair looked so good. I started by going to Brook and she did a great guys cut too. Brook had to leave for paternity leave, so she recommended I see Kadri. Kadri was great too and seemed every bit as good as Brook. Kadri then had to go out on paternity about a year later (something must have been in the water), so I had heard that Kyle was really good too. I had never went to a guy for a hair cut before, but my thought was that he was recommended and since he's a guy, should know how to cut a guys hair. My thoughts where dead on and Kyle does great work too. UPDATE: I needed a hair cut and Brook, Kyle and Kadri were not available (I called last minute), so they asked if I would go to another woman and I agreed since I have had such good stylists in the past. Well, not so much this time. I don't remember her name, but it wasn't up to par with the others that I've been too. Since then I've also learned that Brook and Kyle no longer work there. Kadri does, as of this date (2-11-15) and she's great. I doubt I'll go back though since two of the three people I like are no longer there and its expensive to get sub-par work. Not sure why Brook and Kyle left but they were the reason I went to this place. Time to start looking elsewhere, I guess. read more

My sister made reservations for her bridal party and the moms at Charles Morris for the morning of her wedding (7/26). We were greeted with mimosas and muffins and were seated with our stylists pretty close to our appointment times. There were 8 of us getting hair and makeup done. My hair stylist, Ashley, did an amazing job with my massive amounts of hair. I received compliments all might! Jill did my makeup and I wish I could just bring her everywhere with me. I like to look on Craigslist in their beauty section to see what type of listings are on there. Hey, I'm a college student and LOVE a bargain, as well as looking good. I cam across an ad for 75% off hair color and decided to respond to it. I came across Katherine, who's interning at Charles Morris. I ended up going to my first appointment with her in July 2010 and have been back a few times since. She's very knowledgeable, friendly, and does an excellent job on my hair. Usually I get more than one color service done and it cost me like $30 yet my hair always looks its best after leaving here. The salon is nice, always busy, and everyone else that's a staff member seems very friendly as well. read more

I had a manicure (Shelac) and regular pedicure with Julie. The final product was fine, my nails look good, and my feet/callouses are smooth- which is the least I can ask for. However, the entire process took over 2 hours. Part of the reason this took so long was because the nail tech was constantly talking- and she was gesturing with her hands- so she couldn't work and talk, and she kept getting distracted. When I get a pedicure and manicure I like to relax, it's me time, I want to listen to a podcast, or read a book. I don't want to engage in forced conversation with a stranger for upward of 2 hours. She also didn't soak my cuticles on my fingers, or use cuticle eliminator- she just used a cuticle pusher (aggressively) on my DRY cuticles. She also filed my nails down to the nub. I would rather pay less and get a better experience at the salon I'm accustomed to going to. High end salons like to make it a point to say how much better they are than "Asian" salons- which more than one person at Charles Morris made a point to say (which i think is a little racist and elitist). I've always had better experiences at the salons they talk down about. Maybe these fancy salons would benefit from some humility. **UPDATE** the nail tech was apparently so aggressive with removing the calluses on my feet (which really aren't that bad.. and don't really need much more than a gentle scrub)- that after mowing my lawn yesterday and walking my dog today- normal activities for me- my feet are so tender than I can barely walk. Do need to wait to grow my skin back before I can do my daily activities? Geez! I have never had this experience with any pedicure in my life. Removing one star. **UPDATE** it's only been 5 days and my manicure is chipping. I've had regular polish manicures last longer than this shelac one. Don't waste your money. read more

I visited the salon for the first time a couple of weeks ago, after trying out 2 salons in Frankfort that I was not happy with. Moving from Austin has been a challenge to find someone to do my hair and color the way that I'm happy with. They booked me with Kyle (I asked for a Sr. Stylist) and let me just say, he's awesome.......asked me lots of questions, and is really knowledgeable. Very disappointed!!!!!!! My hair is breaking and falling out after a very upsetting 3 hours in my stylists' chair. "I walked out after a very painful session in her chair as she pulled and tugged on hair for hours (resulting in a migraine) and hair color that was supposed to be a subtle balayage that can only be described as "frosted tips from root to end". When I got home I still had dye all around my forehead and ears and had to wash and scrub my scalp. After getting a better look I was in disbelief at my overall experience and the result. When I called CMS their only course of action was for me to visit the SAME stylist who did this to me and have her "Try to FIX it". As this would be an extremely uncomfortable situation I asked if anyone else in the salon could do it but was told that was the only way they'd fix this mess for me. No refunds - no reasons.. just a terrible policy. It's been a month - I was overcharged by hundreds of dollars, walked out with hair that I have to keep in a bun because it looks ridiculous, and now the ends are so fried that they are falling off and breaking. So I have been a "floating" salon customer for the past 3 years or so. Prior to that I followed the best stylist I ever had to whichever salon she went in Chicago. Last place she was at was the award-winning Salon Blonde, for reference. Then she decided to become a realtor :( Since then, I have probably tried over 7 different salons (including Femme Beauty Lounge, Split Enz, and Jean Marie) all with "meh" results (note: I realize it could have just been the particular stylist I got at each of these salons). Until Moira at Charles Morris. I really have been in a search to find someone who knows what I want without me knowing it. I know, NOT a low bar or perhaps even realistic. Except, I had it before, and wanted it again. I walked in to my appointment with Moira, gave her the general box I wanted to play in, and she went to work. I'm sure the amazing Kevin Murphy products she used helped also. The biggest plus was her giving me more of a blunt cut than I had before (but not too blunt). I didn't know I wanted that, but when she did it, it looked great and like exactly what I would have wanted. I fully expect to come back to Moira in the future! read more

This is an okay looking salon. It's clean and organized. The front desk is helpful and friendly. However the service isn't all that great. By service I mean the cuts and the general attitude of the hair stylists. Put a smile on your faces people! You are in a customer SERVICE industry! Prices are average. Service is average. Oh Charles Morris Salon, I have such mixed emotions. I've had Lauren cut my hair for years. She has always given me a quality cut that looks good and is what I asked for. When I got blonde peekaboo highlights, they turned out fantastic. It was exactly what I wanted, and my hair turned out great. When I had her do a reddish brown lowlight/color, it turned out terrible. It was splotchy in parts, wasn't the color that I wanted and was pretty much yuck. I ended up going to Sally, buying more dye, and doing it myself. With that said, I would still go back to Lauren for a haircut... IF she didn't get so rushed. It is so beyond apparent that the owner/manager whoever pushes to get hair cuts in/out conveyor belt style. 20 minutes in and out WITH a style (half assed of course because by the time the cut is done there's barely any time but to simply blowdry) no matter what kind of a cut you want. IF I wanted a chop shop style hair cut, I wouldn't be paying the prices that they charge. Now, if they would actually allow the stylists to take their time to do a cut and style right, I would go back. But it doesn't seem like that's their goal. Sadly, though I absolutely loved Lauren as a stylist, I more than likely won't be going back. I know I can get a better overall experience-- and a great cut-- at another salon. read more
