Also called Heritage Park (I wonder why, duh), this is one of very few parks in Dekalb near Northlake. It's pretty and popular, and people enjoy it very much. A social hub for the neighborhood.
So what say we pave it! Yeah, that would be a good idea.
The park gets pretty crowded sometimes, with limited parking so cars line up down the street. It obviously needs more parking. Paving the park would obviously solve that problem!
Lots of kids playing, and great little trails and wooded area for younger ones. But everyone knows woods have ticks. (Which reminds me, What's the difference between a tick and a lawyer? Ticks fall off when you die.)
The park is used so much and love so much by the community. The property isn't owned by Dekalb parks, though. It's owned by the Dekalb County School System, which operates a small school for handicapped youth next door. Obviously grass is not wheelchair friendly, so that's another reason to pave it.
Finally, the Dekalb county school systems has a proposal to hook up with the Marine Corps and make the little elementary school for handicapped children into a military high school. It would be the first of it's kind. It will have a principal paid for by Dekalb County schools and a commandant paid for by the Marine Corps.
No matter what you think of the combination of public schools and military (scares me a little, but hey, it's not like we would ever have to worry about civilians being forced to join, right?), the hard facts are there won't be enough parking spots for a high school if it goes in next door. One more reason to pave the park.
I love this park, as do my kids. But when I think of how useful a spanking new concrete parking lot would be, makes me want to write my representative and ask for a property tax increase!
Join the movement! Pave our parks!
