The first weekend this past November, some friends and I were directed to Charcot's, by Shirley McCarthy from Rivergrove House (reviewed elsewhere). Where to begin? The four of us arrived in the early evening, starving and having the thirst upon us! We were also awaiting two more in our party who were driving down from Dublin. We ordered, and were expressing concerns about our missing friends when we were overheard. While eating we attempted to communicate with our lost friends. Over the next hour we were frequently given advice by the staff and patrons about directions to pass on. As we were giving hugs to our late arrivals, we were almost crushed between them and our new friends in the pub!! The next couple of hours were wonderful as my friends from America learned that craic is not a bad word, and that all my stories about the Irish were true!
The food was beyond what is expected of pub fare. The steak and Guinness pie was so good I had to have it again the next night! Michael pours a most proper pint, and there is a great variety of uisce beatha on the shelves. He also introduced some of us to Irish hard cider. Yes, we went back for more of the food. drink, and new companionship the next night.
In my 7 trips to Ireland and year of residence, I've experienced nothing better! Very much looking forward to my next time with the people, food and adult beverages at Charcot's read more
