We visited Char on a Saturday night and asked to find a table for four without a reservation/booking. We were told that we could be seated, however, it would be a 'relaxed' dining experience because they was a party of 18, and 10 before us. We understood and jokingly said we weren't in a huge rush as the restaurant was only two thirds full. We were soon seated ordered drinks, and shortly after gave our order. Another round of drinks later we ordered some bread because we were told it would be a while as the table ahead of us had not received their food yet. It was almost as if a restaurant can only cook one tables food at a time and the kitchen could clearly not handle the restaurants capacity. We finally received our meals and 3 of the 4 were steaks while the other being salmon. The three steaks were good as we all finished our meals since we were starving of malnourishment at that point. The salmon dish was undercooked and we kindly asked for it to be cooked additionally and sent it back to the kitchen. When it returned it was still undercooked, inedible, and re-plated on the same plate. We returned the dish because of this as the complimentary items were cold. The young waiter was inexperienced and unsure of how to handle the situation, however, the manager/owner never came to follow up with us whatsoever. It was removed from the bill, as it should've been, and we had to wait an additional 10 minutes after we received the bill to complete payment with our credit card. Interesting experience. My partner choose the place due to its good reviews. Just before we headed out I read the bad reviews and was a bit surprised that the owner had responded to each bad review... Not in a very tactful way. The restaurant was 1/3 full. We ordered starters and mains. The starters where okay but nothing to rave about. We than had rib eye steak which was okay just a little under cooked. We where to hungry to send it back. The coleslaw that came with it was meh. And the sweet potatoes chips tasted like pure butter. Which Corey loved and I did not. Interesting most tables thought there steaks where under cooked. One guest told the owner that the steak was cold. His response was how did you order it. Customer said medium-rare and than the owner said that's how it comes. Thought it was very passive aggressive. Poor customer as for his starters they forgot to add the smoked trout. Table next to us had kids and poor kids where so hungry. They looked at there parents meals while they had to wait another 10mins. Other than the owner the rest of the staff where really friendly. Food wise versus the price I said it was average. And on the over priced side. read more

we booked ahead of time and got the kind of table that we requested. the servers were nice, though some seemed to be in training. the food was nice, too. we got the whole fried barramundi, like almost every other table, with some sides. it was worth it read more

We ate here the other night. We were a group of 5 with a baby in tow. The waiter could not have been more helpful. The service was timely and very friendly. The steaks were cooked to perfection, and my wife's Mango chicken which was devine. All in all a great evening had by all. read more

For breakfast I had the bacon and waffles, and they were great. Excellent waffles, crisp but soft and fluffy and served with maple butter and maple syrup. A couple of days later we went back for dinner and I got wings, the larger size, with ranch. I couldn't eat all of them, massive serving. Hubby got the chicken and waffles, chicken was crisp but the batter/seasoning needed more flavour. We were able to take our leftovers away and they were great the next day too. Would definitely recommend for breakfast, and probably for dinner too, if you book ahead and choose wisely on the menu.
