While eating my frozen tasteless burger I had the joy of watching two roaches crawl across my table. Oh did I mention that the food is horrible. I should have left when I walked in but sometimes you can be surprised by the old hole in the wall. The inside smells like your elementary school cafeteria on burger day. Stay away! read more

The lady who works here is a complete bitch. Iv been there 3 times and she was rude every single time. I kept going back cause the gyro was pretty good but the customer service has finally pushed me away for good. Sad to see from a place that has been there so long. read more

I have been going to Char Burger since junior high! The gyros are to die for as are the chocolate shakes. The fries are aaaaamazing! I could go on and on! We use to meet there every Friday for lunch, and I completely miss those days! I wish there were places like this where I live now. The same family has owned it the entire time I have been going. My stomach is growling right now just thinking about it! Y'all need to open one in Dallas!!! These other reviewers must be delusional. Everyone that I know LOVES it! read more

This is the BEST place in the Houston area to get Gyro. It's always fresh, loaded with Gyro meat and the pita is delicious. Truly a gem hidden in Deer Park. I noticed on some of the other reviews that people have commented on the ambiance being outdated or dirty. If you have ever been to Chicago and eaten at one of the many "Gyro" stands, ambiance is not part of the deal. It's all about the food, and part of the charm is the old building, retro booths, etc. We have plenty of cookie cutter chain restaurants here in Houston. Char burger has character and history. As far as the people that have commented on the lady behind the counter being rude, you shouldn't publicly call anyone a profane name. If you are a regular there, you may have noticed that they had a sympathy card displayed for the loss of their daughter. Cut the people some slack, you never know what they are going through. read more

I had to go check this out since it's so close to my home. Let me say, I will not be going back. The lady who takes the orders looked as if she didn't want to be there and was not friendly at all. I ordered the Gyro, onion rings and an ice tea. Came to just over 10 dollars. The gyro was just ok, tasted like one you would get at the mall. You can get a much better gyro a few blocks down the street. The kicker was the onion rings. They had been precooked, when you order them they drop them back in the grease to reheat them. Dark brown and as hard as a rock. Had to toss them in the trash. The only thing I actually enjoyed was the ice tea. read more

So, here's the deal. I love the food here. But, the owner/operator is the rudest person I've ever met. The counter person is his mother and he yells at her CONSTANTLY!! Yes, they are Greek, but I don't care about the "Greek culture". You just don't do that!! It's disrespectful! And I've heard it for the last time. I don't think I'll be able to sit down and eat and will be going through the drive thru from now on or will take my business elsewhere. It's definitely not a positive environment dining inside. 5 stars for the food, 1 star for the ownership. Stay away from the inside!! read more

This place used to be really good, now the food is just as bad as the customer service. I'm cool with going to a hole in the wall if the food is worth it, but this place is dirty, and the burgers no longer make up for all the negatives. read more

The hamburgers are okay... Everyone that works there is rude, borderline intolerable. The food is not worth being treated like you are an inconvenience. read more

In town visiting the Battleship Texas and decided to check out Char Burger. We got the 1/2 pound burger with cheese special. A little expensive but it was pretty damn good. The burger had a nice char to it and the flavor was nice. The large steak fries were also good, I usually like them wherever I go. The reason it's not a 5 star is over something kind of small but extremely easy... I asked for no buns on either meal and ended up with buns...smh. They don't have lettuce to wrap the burger which was fine, I get that, but I don't get why they still put it on buns... seems like a waste to me since we threw them away. read more

This place is great, it has been run by the same family for the last 40 years. They treat you like family when you come in and the service is top notch. All the food is excellent but the stand outs for me are the Gyros, shakes and Jalapeno poppers. Also the portion sizes are large you will not leave hungry. read more

Family owned and operated, my husband has been going since he was a boy. It's literally around the corner from us, so when it's a quick drive through kind of night, this is our go to place. We always get the same thing: Charburger basket with a cherry coke. The bracket comes with steak fries and 2-3 onion rings. When we're feeling especially hungry, we'll get a side of onion rings. Takes me back to a simpler time. read more

Any place that can make it 45 years deserves at least two stars. The smell when we walked in was rather, ah, sewer-like and as such put me off on the food. The AC seemed to be struggling and the french fries and onion rings tasted like very old oil was still being used. The "char" burger must have a different meaning than "well cooked" as the burgers seemed borderline undercooked. Mold (?) growing on the ceiling A/C duct wasn't helping things, either. Drive a bit further down the street, there are other options that are far better. RIP Char-Burger, your best days are definitely behind you. read more

It's a mom and pop small restaurant. Solid food. Not the best customer service but I think that's more of a cultural thing than anything else. Good gyros, baklava, burgers and so on. Looking for a good burger, this place! read more

We come here solely for the food. Gyros are great. The burgers are good too. The place could use some updating. But we still love the food.

The food is great, the burger and fries are satisfying. The customer service is horrible, I'm not sure if it's a cultural thing but they are rude. The lady behind the counter must be waiting for her white Knight like in My big fat Greek wedding. The place needs to be updated for sure but for a burger it's not bad. read more

A very pleasant lunch place with a reputable, honest establishment and owner. Many thanks! 5 Stars all the way if I could give 100 I would! The food is wonderful! read more

Great spot for lunch. Clean, quick, with a very straightforward menu. The gyros are especially good!

Gyro are excellent!!! The burger meat is too small and over cooked. However, most of the menu is pretty good and the family owned business has been there forever. read more

Amazing hamburgers and Greek food! Been coming here for years and have never been disappointed! Quality is consistent and they make a mean hamburger!!! read more

This place has been in Deer Park gor as long as I can remember. Their food and service is fantastic. If you are hungry and looking for a burger this is the place. read more

Nice burger. Owners are very eager to please. Service is fast. Their steak sandwich is the best in Deer Park. Onion rings are super.

Went here after visiting the San Jacinto monument. The onion rings are amazing. I got some with my basket, and I'm so pleased that I did. The fish burger was perfect. I would definitely come here again. read more

These people are where it's at. There is pride in every burger cooked here and the onion rings taste like they bread them as soon as you order them. Try the baklava for desert. My wife got the cheeseburger. read more

Well, just tried to call an order in and I was told "MA'AM, I've got someone else on the other line and it's going to be 30-45 minutes for a phone order!" Followed by silence; yes, he hung up on me. Wow. read more

Ok guys keep in mind that this review is for the gyro basket only. That damn thing is so freaking good I haven't wanted to eat anything else there. I've tried all the gyros in my area and this one to me is head and shoulders above the rest. It's my go to dinner when I'm working nights. I'll pick it up on the way to work and eat the fries and drink the cherry coke on the way. I save the gyro for later that night. The fries are wide and thick. I know they are probably frozen but there is just something about them. Even my wife, who never likes what I like, loves their fries. That's why I usually only get it going to work because she eats all my fries. They still make old school cherry cokes too. Not that premixed crap you get everywhere else. You like extra cherry, and daddy does, just ask. The ice is special too. I know what you're thinking, come on Bruce, ice really? Really, it's that soft fine crushed ice I just don't get anywhere else. You don't know what you don't know. If you've never had it, then you don't know. The straw and the lid come off and I eat the ice as I drink. Now the gyro is big enough to be a meal on its own. I swear they load that puppy up with so much meat you would swear they are trying to hide something in there. It's just meat onions and tomatoes. Add that creamy tzatziki sauce and you've got heaven wrapped in a pita. I'm not ashamed to say I've eaten them 2 nights in a row on a few occasions, but I try to draw the line at 3. 3 in a row and I think I have a problem. I don't have a problem. I can quit anytime. I just don't want to. read more

Great place!! Hamburgers are the best and gyro special is so good! We've eaten here for 5 years and they never dissapoint.

Char burger has always been one of my favorite places in Deer Park. I was looking forward to eating there and arrived at 8:36 PM. I was told that the only way we could order food there was if we got it to go. They close at 9 PM. That is the ultimate in laziness and a lack of concern for customers. I will not go back. There are too many great restaurants that care about their customers. If the person working there was not the owner, I hope the owner sees this and takes appropriate action. read more

Worst place ever staff is so rude, restaurant is dirty and food over priced McDonald's burgers. Don't eat here this place has gone down hill fast, rudest employees I have ever talked to. If I could leave negative stars I would leave negative -5 read more

Horrendous customer service. The cook in the kitchen was yelling and making a huge scene causing it to be uncomfortable to even sit and eat. Very disappointing. This will be my last visit here!!! read more

Worst place ever. Customer service was horrible. The lady taking orders is a straight bitch and the guy cooking is a bigger bitch then her. I ordered steak fingers and they tried to give me chicken fingers. I went with a group of 4 and everyone ordered steak fingers as well. I told her I didn't order chicken and she insisted i did. I had them change it and oh man that took her bitch meter to a whole new level and the cook as well, like if its so hard to drop a few steak fingers in oil and just use the same sides. I will never return to this place overall horrible experience. read more

Food was what to be expected just normal, nothing exciting. Having said that the woman working the register was definitely not a ray of sunshine. Seriously I felt like she wished I wasn't here. I also watched her treat everyone else the same exact way so that made me feel a little better, I guess. read more

We love char burger. My husband has me pick up a gyro or Greek salad for him all the time. I can see where people are coming from with the customer service, but if you engage her in conversation she really is the nicest lady. read more

The burger was fine, but the B*TCH behind the counter needs to be working in the back. I thought she might be having a bad day until I read some of the other comments. I just wanted a sandwich, not bitched at. read more

Well I would first like to say I am not one to post bad reviews. But I defiantly believe in posting my honest opinion even when it is bad. Today my son and I went for lunch to try this place out, because I had been told how good the burgers were here. Boy were we disappointed the burgers tasted like frozen patties grilled over a fire Grill. The fries were good and hot but the onion rings were still doughy. Not to mention I had to kill a roach climbing on the back of my chair. Than the tables in the dining area were never wiped down after each customer. I saw it happen twice while we were there. For $20 bucks for a bacon burger basket and a cheese burger basket with two drink. I'd rather go to Mooyahs, whataburger, Mc Donald's, or even just eat at home. Hope they read reviews and clean up the roaches, dusty air vents and other things could be updated here so they can succeed longer in business. read more

This place serves up the classic cafe burger. The building and facilities could use some updating, but the food is pretty good especially the burgers. read more

First time going there and I got the gyro, it was the best gyro I have ever eaten!! It was over flowing with meat, they definitely did not skimp on the meat! Will definitely be going back. read more

This place is amazing!!! Great flame broiled taste on a NOT frozen patty. Thick French fries and 2 complimentary onion rings to top off every basket! Customer service was just like I like it. Straight and to the point. What would you like...ok thank you. No up-selling. Would recommend for sure!! read more

had the cheese burger and fries with a cherry coke and a vanilla milkshake... pure awesomeness. t
