Well, 4, but I came back within the hour for more. The owner is lovely and knowledgeable, with an unsuspecting yet efficient system for how he organizes his books. He was able to decipher my indecision and get me set up with an array of book choices, going off of my previous reads. Offered a student discount which was a pleasant surprise. Will certainly be back for more recommendations the next time I'm in town!

I moved away from Kamloops just over 3 months ago and while I have found a wonderful comic book…read moreshop in my new city, I still really miss High Octane. The space is fairly small but somehow they manage to cram in all the comics, board games, and geeky paraphernalia you could want on the shelves while still being browsable, and if for some reason they don't have something, the staff here are always happy to order it for you. In fact, the staff are what I miss the most about this store. Every single one of their employees does a great job making their customers feel comfortable and welcome, something that unfortunately doesn't always happen in comic shops. They know all of their regular customers by name and are quick to recommend new titles based on their interests. They're also always quick to rectify any potential situation. Once I had a comic come in with a tiny (very tiny) tear on it and they insisted on giving it to me for free. I probably wouldn't have noticed if they hadn't pointed it out and it really wasn't a big deal to me. That above and beyond attitude is rare and I very much appreciated it.

A bright, neat friendly comic shop that suffers a bit on selection…read more If I was only rating them for their comic selections, they'd get an 4 or a 5, easily-but their RPG selection is small (I've seen better selections at Chapters) they never seem to have the graphic novel I want in, and their prices are a bit high.

First off, they carry a great selection of some of my favourite brands including Matt & Nat, Free People, Michael Kors, and Scotch & Soda. Everything is fashion-forward and current. Every time I'm looking for something new to wear, this is my first stop. The store is always well organized and tidy. I've never had an issue finding my size in something new, though there have been a couple times that I've waited too long to commit to something and regretted it afterwards! The staff here are all helpful and friendly. Even during the busy Christmas season, I was always able to get help when I needed it. I also never feel pressed into buying (but usually end up doing it anyway!)

We purchased a game and the game and then sat down to play it in the game area. Ian, the employee, checked in on us and our progress, seemingly as excited about the game as we were. My first experience at Barnacle records was great! The owner was super knowledgeable and welcoming…read more In conversation he was able to glean the type of new record player I just ordered and give me a valuable insight about the pros of upgrading to one with a counterweight adjustment arm to minimize the long term damage a non-adjustable arm can possibly do over time if it's pressure is too much. He educated me on a key consideration for my 1st record player without being condescending and he recommended considering the next model up in the line. I went home, took on his advice, and exchanged my order for one with the adjustment dial. Now I have the opportunity to preserve the longevity of my records. I felt the owner just wanted his customers to be happy and have a great experience at thier shop; for these reasons I'll keep going back.
