I always enjoy going to Chapters. I love browsing the bestsellers and their different tables of…read morebooks, including "not just for teens" and "guaranteed reads". I also find that Heather's picks (their Oprah equivalent) are pretty solid reads. As for this Chapters location, I find that it is much more organized than other locations I've been too. It has a nice open feel, and it's really easy to find the different sections, including Well Being (no longer called Self Help) and Fitness. I find they also have more stock than at other locations. There's also a Starbucks inside the store so you can get your coffee and free Wi-Fi fix. As for the staff, there was a few wandering around the store in case you had any questions or wanted book suggestions. There's also plenty of parking outside the store, which is really convenient. Books at Chapters may be more expensive than at Costco, but the selection can't be beat. In terms of Chapters, this is one of the better one's I've been to.

I moved away from Kamloops just over 3 months ago and while I have found a wonderful comic book…read moreshop in my new city, I still really miss High Octane. The space is fairly small but somehow they manage to cram in all the comics, board games, and geeky paraphernalia you could want on the shelves while still being browsable, and if for some reason they don't have something, the staff here are always happy to order it for you. In fact, the staff are what I miss the most about this store. Every single one of their employees does a great job making their customers feel comfortable and welcome, something that unfortunately doesn't always happen in comic shops. They know all of their regular customers by name and are quick to recommend new titles based on their interests. They're also always quick to rectify any potential situation. Once I had a comic come in with a tiny (very tiny) tear on it and they insisted on giving it to me for free. I probably wouldn't have noticed if they hadn't pointed it out and it really wasn't a big deal to me. That above and beyond attitude is rare and I very much appreciated it.

My first experience at Barnacle records was great! The owner was super knowledgeable and welcoming…read more In conversation he was able to glean the type of new record player I just ordered and give me a valuable insight about the pros of upgrading to one with a counterweight adjustment arm to minimize the long term damage a non-adjustable arm can possibly do over time if it's pressure is too much. He educated me on a key consideration for my 1st record player without being condescending and he recommended considering the next model up in the line. I went home, took on his advice, and exchanged my order for one with the adjustment dial. Now I have the opportunity to preserve the longevity of my records. I felt the owner just wanted his customers to be happy and have a great experience at thier shop; for these reasons I'll keep going back.

Selection was concise and geared towards varied (and sub) genres of rock, punk and metal. Had a feel like a local distro, good 7" selection and frankly, some amazing sales on quality vinyl. They had a smaller selection of compact-discs and some cassette tapes. Worth stopping in for sure

This is a great Michaels location. I know they have to follow pretty strict corporate guidelines so…read morethere isn't a lot of difference from store to store when it comes to selection and such. However, the thing this location really excels in is customer service. The staff here are great at identifying the difference between browsing and hopelessly lost. Today I was looking for supplies for a craft that took me all over the store and I had not one, not two, but three different staff members help me find what I needed. Seriously impressed. The same goes for checkout: the staff are always helpful with coupons and suggestions. I've never had anything but great service here. The reason for 4 stars rather than 5? Mostly corporate issues that I understand this location can't change. Michaels is terrible for making you feel ripped off with their constant coupons. Obviously everything is incredibly marked up. NEVER go there without a coupon. They almost always have one for at least 40% off a single item. Sometimes they even have ones that cover your whole transaction.
