Paid for two of us for trip from Hyannis to Nantucket. Trip was cancelled due to mechanical issues…read more Ok that can happen, I get it. But the handling of it was bad. When we first arrived we were greeted by a salty sailor type guy who grumbled "it's not running today. Hasn't been running all day..." then rattled off a confusing list of options as if it was our problem, and "go to the ticket booth". We went to the ticket booth where the guy - who clearly hates tourists - rattled off options, each one with an attitude like it was just our problem and we had to know the area and options and if we didn't we were just stupid. "well you could take the freighter... well you could try that other boat over there... well..." We asked, "any idea when it could be back running again"? "nope." 2 stars because they gave us a free ride back. But even that wasn't clear. Return boat was canceled. Went to ticket building before the return trip... got another ticket person who was very unclear. "We can't give refunds here." (WTH, this is a large ticket building, not just a booth and they can't rectify there?!). Now we knew about the freighter and passenger "slow boats" (2 hours instead of 1) and were lower cost so we were just looking for the difference refunded. "can't do that here". then "just hop on, and it will be free back, then go to the ticket counter and talk to them". Of course when we got back nothing was open. So we got online the next morning. Managed to get a full refund so the return ride was free. Turned out ok. Slow boats took 2 hours off our day but whole trip ended up costing 1/4 of what it would have it the boat was working.

The line through TSA was super short when I got here for a flight. The agents were all super friendly. No lounges, just a lot of benches. It can go from super empty in here to super packed really quickly. Boarding and landing is outside in the elements. Good thing I came when the weather was dry. There are shuttle buses to downtown via the Nantucket Regional Transit Authority. It was free when I visited. Taxis and rideshare (lyft and uber) also available. Car rental through Hertz and Windmill close-by. Operated seasonally (spring through early fall). Airlines include: American, Jetblue, Delta, Cape Air.

The staff is wonderful -- especially the older gentleman who helped me. His warm, friendly customer service really stood out. The Hangar restaurant is a nice touch, with views of planes taking off and even a quiet VIP‑style seating area. I took my first Cessna flight here, and the pilot made the ride smooth and enjoyable. We were in Boston before I knew it. Also, the lobster roll at the restaurant was fresh and delicious, with personable service all around. A charming airport with great people.

Security moves quickly and they have TSA pre-check too. After security, you'll wait in a tent outside with seating. Baggage claim is in a tent too. Free buses run to and from the airport.

It starts on the Sconset bridge then eventually winds along the cliff off of the ocean and meanders along public access behind all of these beautiful Sconset homes. The path is only really marked by obvious tracks of those who walked it before you. And you will see others coming the other way as you walk. It is perfectly legal public access, so don't worry. Eventually erosion forces you onto the road, it is pretty clearly marked off and that road to the right leads to the Sankaty Head lighthouse. (another Nantucket gem.) Then we walked the actual road back to Sconset center to see the houses from the other side. Out and back it is about 4 miles total. No real hills to worry about. A beautiful walk, old expensive homes on one side and the ocean on the other!

Located next to the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association or MVCMA), these are miniature colorful houses passed down generationally from a Methodist tent campground established in 1835. The homes are owned by tenants but the property is owned collectively by someone else. Home designs feature scrollwork, Gothic arched windows, and bright pastel color palettes. More pictures to come

I'm not a utopian transit wacko who thinks it's plausible to ban cars on the Tappan Zee and of course New Bedford isn't New York but SRTA needs to do better. If I want to be an optimist I can say I enjoyed the scenic walk across the bridge as well as the excellent conversation about food with a Lyft driver. The buses that did exist were generally reliable and drivers were friendly and helpful. And of course I'm grateful that I got there just before the temporary free fare program ended. Tourism/geography notes: the bus can get to you to the scenic Fort Taber area. I stayed in Fairhaven and took the bus to/from downtown several times. It's somewhat indirect, presumably to avoid the bridge that opens for boats, but is listed at a relatively brisk 16 minutes.

I think these 'gingerbread houses' are actually a little better than the actual gingerbread houses. And a cool thing, a 7 speed limit sign. First one that I've seen that didn't end in a zero or five. I thought they were urban legend.
