We live in the city, so for spring break we wanted to give our son a place with lots of room for him to just run and play. As an added bonus, once he was out running in the huge yard and playing in the cool fort, he also learned that he loves to play with dogs, falling so in love with Roy and Angie's dog Maggie that we couldn't keep them apart. Being outside on the property was lots of fun, especially the barn tour, egg collection, tire swing and already mentioned yard and fort, but being inside was just as nice. We had the Katie Suite in the house's addition; it was like having our own home. The bathroom was spacious and really nicely decorated, as was the upstairs den. We cooked for ourselves one night in the kitchen, ordered in one night, and took a road-trip into town. There's actually a lot to see and do around this area, but you can also just chill on the farm. Either way, if you're thinking about booking a stay here, I encourage you to go ahead and do it. You'll be glad you did.

I do want to leave an honest review for anyone with celiac disease considering booking their afternoon tea. I booked the gluten-free option in advance, so they were aware of my dietary need. When the food was brought out it was flagged as gluten-free (with a cute American flag stick) but had been placed directly underneath and beside the gluten-containing food on the same tray, making it unsafe for someone with celiac. Cross contamination is a serious issue for people with this condition, not just a preference. They did try to make it right by bringing me a replacement plate, the replacement was not comparable to the full tea experience and the tea came out cold. If you do not have dietary restrictions, I think you would really enjoy this place. If you have celiac, I would recommend calling ahead and having a thorough conversation about food handling before you book.

There was a nice selection of specials for the day...some of which only a true southerner could appreciate (fruit gel topped with mayo, tomato spicy over cottage cheese topped with mayo) and some like cream of broccoli soup and steak boardelaise that even a yank could appreciate. Our table settled on two orders of fried catfish which came with a choice of two sides...baked potato and coleslaw were the choices. One of our diners choose the fried chicken livers that came with cream gravy...she chose the broccoli soup and corn pudding as her sides. Our tea toatler chose the country fried steak. I will term you that everyone cleaned their plates...it was that good. A final round of coffee, the OK from the waitress that we could pick some mint (which was planted in our garden at home) and we were off. Guess who is coming back? Me!!!

I had colleagues on different floors who told me their experience was better. Someone said first floor rooms may be the better option. I stayed at a room on the 3rd floor my first visit and then on the second my 2nd visit. Both were similar. The room in the 3rd floor AC controls were on the window unit. The room in the 2nd floor AC controls were through the control unit in the wall. Both rooms had a damp smell and feeling. It smelled old. I couldn't get over it. The gym was smaller than most Hampton Inns I've been in. A colleague on the second floor said she saw bugs in the closet. I saw tiny bugs in the shower. I understand it's a smaller town, there were very few options and this hotel is older. Not many solutions besides renovating the whole thing...

The hotel was very charming. Clean and had available hand wipes at the elevator and in the rooms. When leaving, the young lady at the desk offered additional water for my travels, While it wasn't needed this time, it was such a nice offer! Definitely that extra step hospitality. The breakfast was fresh and well laid out. Appreciated the boiled eggs in a little zip lock snack bag. Look forward to staying here again in the future.
