Chanticleer Beer garden... Disappointed We've been coming for 20+ years every time we're up in Eagle River. We make sure we stop in for beer and bratwurst off our pontoon boat. Yesterday was so disappointing. I don't think we're coming back. Several things . We were the only ones there at 11:30. We noticed....They have moved the grill from outdoors to indoors, which creates a huge timeline lag , from when you order to when you receive your food. We ordered six bratwurst, an order of chicken strips, chips, that's good tots, beer. The Brats were long and narrow( not plump and juicy). They were overcooked, super dry, and no flavor. The only thing good were the onions and mustard. But for 90$ worth of food ... the value killed the ambience. Our order took over 20 minutes to receive, hey we're on vacation and while the time wasn't terrible, but we were surprised as they were not busy. Things change over the years and the food quality this year is poor. Eat at your own risk. read more

The walleye was a pre breaded frozen fish stick, the steak was cold, and the drinks were horrible. I felt bad because this place is a staple in the city, but if they can't find a high end chef they should switch to a bar menu. We paid $145 for 3 people and we could have eaten fast food. I really hope they improve because their scenery is beautiful and they had good service. Maybe their normal chef was off (I'm hoping that was the case.) read more

We did go to Chanticleer several time this summer to celebrate anniversaries, Birthdays and Special Visitors (even with our first great granddaughter). The staff were very accommodating & three gals working there sang happy birthday with us for our brothers 89th birthday. The food was delicious and well-presented. It was good to have the restaurant open every day all summer. We look forward to more meals at Chanticleer with a wonderful View of the channel leading to Eagle River. Many boats pass by & some dock there to eat. read more

We went for lunch while we were boating on the Eagle chain in August. Service was friendly and prompt. Food and drinks were tasty. It wasn't a fancy meal but that's not what we were there for. At one point I'm sure this was a charming resort, but time has passed it by. Our room was dated and had the faint smell of stale cigarettes. Our balcony overlooked a tennis court with weeds. Views of the lake were pretty. Very dog friendly. Atmosphere was nice and quiet. The extra fees were almost as much as the advertised price of the room. Great place to stop in by boat for an awesome burger, brat, hot dog, chicken sandwich, rib sandwich right from the grill! The rib sandwich was fantastic and also the cheeseburger! I love that the person working is also working to go back to school, they have a tip bucket right by the grill with the school they are attending! Not to mention, I love coming here and sitting outside on the patio watching all the boats drive by right on the channel. It's a great spot to stop in for lunch! read more

There should be two separate accounts. One for the restaurant and brat bar outside, and one for the resort. The brat bar outside is lovely, five stars! The restaurant is average, three or four stars. THE RESORT IS OUTDATED AND OVER PRICED.i was sure that THIS year would be the year they would have finally spent some time and money updating this place. I have been here every three years for the past 30 and I find myself once again disappointed. It's simply not acceptable to leave cabins in this kind of condition. It's bad business and an insult to guests coming from long distances to have a 'vacation'. A 35 year tradition that after one day we have already decided must end because of how outdated, cheap, and uncomfortable the cabins are. They need new pillows and mattresses, ALL new furniture, new appliances, new paint job, new carpet and please for the love update the linoleum with tile or hardwood... it's really ridiculous. read more

Best fish fry in Eagle River! Yes you heard it hear first! Just incredible. You get a cup of chowder and you got yourself the best fish fry on the chain o lakes. The staff is incredible. My brother in law just had a new born and the staff was offering to walk her around in the stroller while we enjoyed a great fish fry. The sides included killer beans, coleslaw and scrumptious apple sauce. Chanticleer Inn is a nice enough facility. Unfortunately, Jake, the owner, took it upon himself to put hundreds of dollars of unauthorized charges on my credit card. It was a complete nightmare, since the reservation booking entity (Vacasa) disclaimed any responsibility, and the owner made promises of remediation, which were never followed up on. I finally had to have my bank step in to set things right. After this fiasco, I checked TripAdvisor and noted that my experience was far from unique. Apparently, the this facility is experiencing financial hardship and has been for sale by the owner for at least a year. My family and other extended family members have frequented Chanticleer for many years. We never experienced a problem. It was recently sold, has new management and chose to partner with a 1.2 star rayed company - Vacasa. After becoming temporarily disabled and having Covid, we asked to shorten our stay. They refused to allow changes. However, after driving 9 hours and arrived at 10:45 p.m. in the middle of our reservation we found that Chanticleer rented our room to another customer as there was someone else including pets in our unit. We tried to use our other room, but the shower didn't drain well and the toilet didn't flush. Clearly this booking agency AND the operator are incompetent, in our experience. I called Vacasa, they promised to resolve and call back (they NEVER did!). I spoke with the operator (Jeff) and after he promised our refund would be emailed to us "shortly", it was not received as promised. After following up numerous times, Jeff now says it can take several days. After reading through other reviews, another client of theirs said they were promised a refund but never received it. It is ironic and upsetting that they didn't allow us to modify our reservation, but they apparently felt they could. No Integrity at all. No professionalism at all. This is clearly not the same place that I and my family have frequented for many years. If they make good & actually keep their word for once, we'll plan to update this posted review. Now it's time to contact my credit card company, the Better Business Bureau and if needed, file a suit against these extremely poor businesses for breach of contract, false advertising and general deceptive business practices. This staff deserves at least 4 stars. They are some of the most universally friendly staff that I have ever encountered. We stayed in one of their motel rooms for one night in a double queen. They are definitely queen length, but seem to be q bit narrow. The room was on the small side, but pretty comfortable and pleasant enough. The best part was the huge deck from the Arcadia doors with a lovely view of the lake. I have no complaints We are at the restaurant, and once again everyone was really nice. After waiting for about five minutes, the hostess greeted us, and asked if we wanted to wait a few minutes for a table by the window. When we were finally seated by the window, the main thing I noticed was how rushed everyone seemed to be. The first person to greet us brought us water and bread, while apologizing for the wait. We really had only been sitting for about 2 minutes. When our server approached, we ordered drinks which were delivered by the bartender very quickly. The liquor selection was fine, but the organization behind the bar was odd. I'm not sure how the bartender finds anything. The menu was pretty large with fish, shrimp, steaks, sandwiches and duck all on the menu. It seems like this menu is a little ambitious for the chef. The side options were French fries, baked potato, rice pilaf or a vegetable medley. With a view of the lake from our window, we ordered different fish dishes. They all came bland and slightly over done. I think the attempt at being timely mean the fish is cooked at too high of a temperature. They all needed to be seasoned better. The wine selections are typical, there is nothing great or unique, but everything is priced well. Our total came to $97 before tip for 4 drinks, 2 glasses of wine and 3 meals. The dining room was not full, and there was plenty of staff. I'm not sure why I felt like we were needing to have tables turned over like it was the lunch rush. I think that the food needed to be cooked at the correct temperature and seasoned better, and the staff trained a bit better in order to make this a great experience. I thought that I was on the SS Minnow, because we endured a three hour tour of the lobby area. We were told that there would be a 1 hour + wait, and that the restaurant did not offer reservations. As we withered away from lack of nutrition in the foyer area, we discussed our disgust with the customer service with another patron who was similarly peeved that she had been waiting over 2 hours to be seated for her 7:30 reservation (no reservations?). I found it especially interesting that there were perpetually two tables ahead of us despite the fact that I could see their waiting list on the podium and noticed several groups being seated ahead of us. We were told that the problem was that there was a group of 22 that they were waiting on to leave. As other tables were cleared and other groups were seated, we enjoyed sideways glances and an indifferent attitude from the manager; however since we were in the middle of the woods, our options were limited so we continued to wait. Maybe it was because we were out-of-towners, or maybe it was because we had a party of 9 (4 adults and 5 children), but either way the manager could surely have seated us within 3 hours if he really wanted to. It was obvious that our children were growing restless, and management's indifference to our hungry children was something that I found really deplorable. I have a feeling that the 70's decor and the discriminatory nature of the manager was likely indicative of a sub-par restaurant, so in the end I guess maybe it was better that we walked out. We ended up at a restaurant that was far more sympathetic to our situation and enjoyed a great meal and great service (Micheal's Italian Restaurant). read more

This place does not deserve a star, but in order to write a review I have to give something. Also, I must try to make others aware of this place and prevent my experiences from happening to others. Just from this restaurant I will NEVER visit the state of Wisconsin again. I'm sure Wisconsin would not want me in their state anyway. I was discriminated against. Meaning the hostess at the reception desk was staring at me with disgust- no hello- nothing. The server tried to skip me and stared at me and gave me very uncomfortable vibes and to draw the line, I was food poisoned by the server named "Rob." If you want to know details, I can say I was vomiting black stuff and I had horrible stomach cramps which lead to black diarrhea. Just the food poisoning itself disregarding all the other incidents is what has left me traumatized and knowing it was deliberate will be a reminder of how Wisconsin treated me. I will let karma take over. I just will never be the same from the details and experiences I had at this restaurant and in the state of Wisconsin. In fact, I've researched about this restaurant and the state of Wisconsin. It turns out that there is a Complaint Discrimination Department for The Food and Health Department for the State of Wisconsin. I wonder why? In conclusion, I'm back home from Wisconsin. It's a beautiful place but unfortunately the people ruin it. I can't believe places like this still exist in 2010! It's disgusting. Although, places like this are everywhere and people ruin it. Dined at Chanticleer with friends. Had the Friday fish fry with broiled cod. The fish was nicely moist, tender, and flavorful. My friend had the pan fried perch a said it was delightful. Service was good and the staff was friendly. I would recommend Chanticleer to others. We were there in the off season so our wait was not long. We didn't have reservations. We went to the bar, ordered a round of drinks and asked the bartender to get our party (6) a table. We were seated within 15 minutes. This is our only "must do every trip" activity in Eagle River - and has been must-do for as many years as I can remember - 10? 20? We boat over, dock, find a picnic table, order, eat, relax, and repeat until in full vacation mode! After coming from Chicago in late Sept. 2011, sounds of the leaves rustling in the wind provided a calm respite at the Chanticleer Inn. The inn is located on Voyageur Lake and convenient to make trips into the town of Eagle River. The motel room with a king-sized bed was quiet and very clean. The room featured a small fridge (not stocked, thankfully) which gave us room to store our beverages and fruit, as well as a small coffeemaker with tasty coffee and tea. Although towels were plentiful, there was a curious lack of towel racks. At least one more towel rack would have been helpful or even a hook behind the bathroom door. This particular room had no tub and one of the smallest shower stalls I've ever seen, so anyone bigger than "average" be warned -- you won't possibly fit your entire body in the stall! During this season, Chanticleer has a pub serving lunch and a fine dining restaurant (Supper Club) serving dinner. A variety of soups, salads, sandwiches and entrees were available with steaks being the main emphasis. There is a Friday Fish Fry. Service was cheerful and leisurely and the decor a serene North Woods, rustic atmosphere. There was no breakfast service but there are a number of cafes in Eagle River. A pleasant, relaxing stay with which to see the spectacular Fall foliage and North Woods pines. read more

My family stopped in by boat to have some burgers, brats and beers. I had a burger and it was excellent. Cooked absolutely perfectly. The staff cooking and serving the food was so attentive and personable. I love sitting out here and watching all the boats going by in the channel. There aren't many places that are directly overlooking the water! The only downfall was that we would have stayed longer than the 3PM closing time because we were having such a nice time! Over the years, my family has also rented condos, rented hotel rooms, had many dinners, and even had a wedding reception at Chanticleer. My husband and I needed to get away from the big city and recharge our batteries which is why we chose to drive to Eagle River. The Chanticleer Inn was the perfect spot because not only was it tucked away on several acres of beautiful trees, but it was right on the lake with several boat slips and a private beach. We stayed in Room 57 of the motel which was very clean and updated and also had a mini frig and microwave. We had our own private deck off the back of the room that overlooked the water which was very peaceful. Chanticleer Inn is on a channel that connects two lakes and is no-wake for the boats, so it's a very quiet part of the lake, but a popular place for boats to travel thru which made it a perfect spot for boat and people watching. Because of COVID-19, the restaurant was closed, but there is a small beer garden outside of the lodge that is open daily from 11:30-6 which serves food cooked on a grill and drinks if you choose to stay on the property for lunch or dinner. The bar inside the lounge of the Lodge is also open. Across from the property is a trail to Dollar Lake which is a 5-minute walk. Chanticleer has their own private beach there where you can swim and watch beautiful sunsets. There are also trails on the property that you can walk. Even though this property was built in the 1920s, they've done a good job keeping it updated and we would definitely stay there again. read more

I really wanted to love this restaurant. The staff was very nice and efficient. We ordered the Fish Fry and Walleye dinner. The salad that came with the meal was adequate, nothing special. The rolls were heated up frozen French rolls. As far as our fish, both were dry with a thick dry breading coating, we've had way better fish fry's in this part of town. My meal came with asparagus opting not to have a potato. I received 5 asparagus stalks that were the circumference of a q-tip, should have had a potato. The walleye meal was not worth the price we paid, ($24) one piece of fish, a sample of asparagus, roll and a so so salad. We would give them a grade of a C. We will try again but next time order a sandwich, some places are better at sandwiches than a 2 course meal. I wish I could give it a better review....sorry. read more

Fantastic dinner! My wife and I at dinner at the Chanticleer Inn about a week ago. My wife had a fish entree and I had the Rib dinner. The fish was amazing,,,but the ribs were cooked to perfection,,,feel off the bone. The dinner was one thing to brag about,,,but the view while eating dinner was breath taking. We have stayed at the Chanticleer twice now, both times poor service and dirty. This time was over New Years and the office was completely closed all day/night for new years day. No way to get in your cabins when you are locked out or even get ice... The employees were kind but the cabins were filthy and not somewhere we would ever stay again for the price!!! read more

The location is excellent... but that is where the experience ends. I have not been this disappointed in a meal in a while. First of all the waitstaff was fairly rude when our group of 6 walked in without a reservation, even though the place was pretty empty. Luckily, they were able to seat us quickly. Half our group ordered old fashions of different varieties and all of them said it tasted funky or watered down. The waitress seemed rushed from the start, like she was trying to get us out of there ASAP. We all ordered a variety of mains, with several people opting for the Friday Fish Fry. The food came FAST... so fast I worried a little about freshness. I got the beef Gorgonzola medallions with a baked potato (I ordered vegetables, but got a potato, but didn't feel like complaining to get it changed). The beef was actually pretty good- the presentation on raw spinach left something to be desired, but whatever. The potato appeared to be covered I Parmesan cheese, but upon the first bite, we discovered it was doused in salt- pretty gross. I kept my mouth shut about my disappointment in the food to not ruin my party's meal, but one by one they all began to admit they hated their meal. The two who got the cod fish fry said it tasted like water and the batter was soggy. The burger was tasteless and the other fish options were severely underwhelming. It was not a cheap meal either. We were all pissed we paid 30-40 per person for a downright bad meal. From the looks of other reviews, their outdoor burger area may be pretty good (at least you have an awesome view to distract you), but I would avoid the dining room like the plague. My husband and I have spent New Years Eve in the North Woods for 20 years. This was the first time at the Chanticleer and it will not be the last! The accommodations were wonderful-our room was warm and cozy - and the temps were -17! No drafts, no cold floor- beautiful white bedding and a lakeside view. The dining room and bar were expertly decorated (with a wood burning fireplace!) and there was live entertainment for New Years. The food was exceptional, hot, fast, great wait staff! Melt in your mouth Prime Rib! When the entertainment took a break- they walked around and talked to the guests! I have never experienced that before. The owners, management, staff-all mixed with the guests and it was a true "party"! The best Wisconsin's North has to offer- do not miss! read more

We stopped in the day before to see the restaurant and were excited about the wonderful view of the water. Told them we'd be back with others the following night. To our great disappointment when we returned we were told no parties over 4 people can be seated by the window. They should've told us that the day before! The restaurant was nearly empty and yet we were seated away from the windows! Ridiculous! The food and service were so-so. They were out of three items on the menu, including fried cheese, which is an unforgivable sin for a Wisconsin restaurant! Two of our steaks were mealy and flavourless, the waitress forgot to bring some things, and one of us who wanted to have a beer with our appetizer didn't get the beer till the appetizer was cold.
