After scrolling thru the review photos I thought for sure I would land on a burger. But I was pleasantly surprised to see they had hot dogs on the menu, which were cleverly disguised as Perras Maltesas. And being that I am not a vegetarian, I ordered the carnivore selection. Boy, was I glad I found the hot dog on that menu. It is presented in "pig in a blanket" style with two 1/4 pound beefy dogs in homemade roll with 2 kinds of gooey cheese and caramelized onions. And even though I am normally a chili dog kinda girl, I have to say every bite of this tasty combo tasted like a bite from home. And these guys aren't kidding around. The dog runs end to end and it's a hearty meal for one or perfect snack for two. The picture shows the dog after I cut it in half for sharing. The dog is grilled and the bun is toasty warm lending to yummy, gooey, cheesy melt. If you are jonseing for a good hot dog in Mexico City, this is your destination.

Severely food poisoned…read more Aitana is a beautiful restaurant. The space is well designed, the atmosphere is lovely, and the staff seems attentive. Which makes what happened to me all the more shocking and disappointing. I visited recently and when I was deciding what to order, the server pushed me very hard toward the ribeye with rice, which also happened to be the most expensive item on the menu. I was uncertain and mentioned a few other options but they kept steering me back to that specific dish with unusual persistence. I ordered it. Within hours I was severely ill. What followed was one of the worst weeks of my life: constant cold sweats, a high fever, severe stomach pain, total weakness, and vomiting that would not stop. I could barely eat anything for days. I required a full course of antibiotics, several medications, and medical-grade hydration support just to stabilize. I genuinely feared for my life at certain points during those days. Looking back, the aggressive push toward one specific dish, the most expensive one on the menu, raises serious questions. When a restaurant steers you that insistently toward a single item and you end up hospitalized-level sick, you cannot help but wonder whether that food should have been served at all. My recovery took weeks.

I can summarize this restaurant: - Food: above average, nothing spectacular. -Staff Service: The waiter was great and attentive, nothing out of the ordinary. - Cashier/likely the owner: grumpy, didn't look like she wanted to be there. Gave me the dirty look because I added 10% of the check in tip, which all the locals told me is fair. Probably was the Lebanese owner. Mexicans can't be that grumpy. -Price: 320 pesos for a buffet, basically about the same price you'd get in the U.S. or the Emirates. All in all, I wouldn't go back because of the price and the grumpy cashier.

For the buffet they got all kinds of Lebanese entrees: grape leaves, stuffed squash, stuffed cabbage, raw kibbeh, baked kibbeh, tabbouleh, hummus, etc. ALSO, This is a great spot for breakfast if you're visiting Viveros or even Frida Kahlo's house. They got Lebanese inspired eggs served with Lebanese jocoque (strained yogurt), spices, olives and pita bread. It was a very special flavor. The egg cazuela with poblano peppers is very tasty and has a super generous amount of cheese, it's spicy! Huevos divorciados are also a Mexican breakfast classic, served with delicious mashed beans. Coffee is very good. Prices are right, you can get the breakfast dish on its own or you can make it a combo (coffee, juice and fresh fruit included)

We ordered the salad with the figs, amazing... the artichoke risotto, delicious... the ribeye nicely grilled... and I ordered a soup for my mom which she enjoyed and topped it off for her with a nice coconut desert. I had a carajillo and was very content. The descriptions of the ingredients were appreciated as well as the recommendations. A great experience can come to a grinding halt in an instance. Background on us is that we recently relocated for a job here in Mexico City. Historically we have lived in Vallarta for about 8 months and have been a frequent traveler to Guanajuato...We have been consistently tipping 10% everywhere we go within Mexico. Ok, so here is the kicker...upon paying our bill with a cc, the waiter asked if we would like to include a tip and my husband automatically said yes, 10%. The waiter then proceeded to educate us that it was customary to pay 15% as they take 8% out and then HE ASKED AGAIN, what would you like to leave as tip. At this point, my blood boiled and I repeated, 10%. I think he thought that I would alter the percentage. I can tell you, I felt very offended to be pressured to change something that I had already made a decision about and now to be shame-pressured to giving him a higher tip. Does he do this to EVERYONE (locals, expats and tourists) that leave the standard tip amount in Mexico??? Or did he say this just to our party?? I do know and appreciate that the service was fantastic, however, I feel it is MY prerogative to decide what to tip in Mexico. NO ONE ever has ever questioned what I tip. The whole experience went from a solid A+ to a very gut-wrenching embarrassment to be called out and schooled. I certainly did not appreciate that at all.

We started with the Jarra de Café Arabe which was made just right. It reminded me of Lebanon and gave me that midday caffeine kick I needed. The Pan con Queso y Zaatar was surprisingly not authentic. It was essentially just cheese with dry zaatar on the side. I was expecting it to be baked with half Cheese and half Zaatar. They essentially gave us the zaatar to sprinkle on our own. The Pastel de Dátil was rich, naturally sweet from the dates, and a bit dense. I picked up on other spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom which gave it some warmth while the crust was more crunchy and nutty. Good try, overall!
