Champ's Tree Service did one and a half days of work for us. The first day was to improve our internet service and was complex, involving removing and trimming trees on our neighbor's property along a public roadway. Permission from the neighbors and flaggers on the road were required. The second day was simply doing some pruning of trees in our yard to prevent them from overhanging the house and garage. Their work was excellent. They are skilled professionals who maintain high standards. They were on time, friendly, thorough, and cleaned up after themselves. This crew left a stump 5ft high. Its right on my property line. So i have to build a fence around it. He broke one of my 4x4 posts and didn't tell me about it. He told me multiple times on how i shouldn't have purchased my house due to the giant trees next to my house. I hired a previous tree company. He bad mouthed them everytime i brought them up. Kept telling me how bad they screwed me over... Go somewhere else! This guy works for catlin properties. One of the most crooked property management teams you could ever imagine. Monster Tree Service is way cheaper.. More efficient.. And just a better choice. read more

Requested a proposal for removing large oak tree. When my husband honestly shared we were getting a few different proposals the person from Champs said a proposal would cost $50.00 because "if we're just shopping for cheapest quote, someone will come in lower on price". We aren't shopping for cheapest quote, we are helping neighbor with a neighborhood nuisance tree gather a few proposals. A Winning proposal isn't just about the lowest price, it involves customer service, instilling confidence in the ability to get the job done correctly, and value for dollar. The 2 other proposals from other tree services didn't come with a $50.00 fee. Champs clearly has more work than they need and apparently just want to be hired without competing bids. I won't call them again for future work I may have for tree service (I will need tree service this year). There are more than a few tree services in Cowlitz Co. Champs is not a winner in customer service. read more

We utilized Champs for tree removal, trimming and stump grinding. Their work was excellent but unfortunately their billing was questionable. For $300 an hour you should receive a bill down to the minute. Due to the fact 15 minutes is $75. I would recommend you fully understand that they charge from the time they leave the garage/warehouse until they get back to the garage/warehouse after they have completed their work. I would also recommend you have them call you as soon as they leave and as soon as they return to the garage/warehouse. Then confirm with Arty what EXACTLY the time is that you will be billed. Do the same thing with the stump grinder as well. I have a hard time believing that they performed EXACTLY 8 hours for the tree removal and trimming. Then Exactly 2 hours for the stump grinding. If I would have done what I have suggested I can guarantee you I would have saved at least $100. I paid the FULL amount they billed due to the fact I did not have exact times. But, this will not happen to me again with an hourly job. I just didn't think this was something that I NEEDED to do. read more

Called Champ's to come take a look at a sick cedar tree near our shop, Artie came out, looked it over, and recommended that we try treating it with a nutrient solution before spending the money to take it down. While he was there he noticed 3 cottonwoods that were dangerously close to the building and recommended that we take them out. We had already been worried about those particular trees for some time so decided to go ahead and remove them. When I called him back to make the appointment, he scheduled us for the very next day. His guys showed up on time the next day and were total pros. There was a slight hiccup when they had a little equipment failure and dropped a chunk of one of the trees on the roof and punched a hole through the eve. They were very apologetic and had Artie call me immediately, he offered to have a roofing company that he deals with fix it or I could call someone myself. I have a friend who owns a roofing company so we just had him take care of it. This is why it pays to deal with professionals instead of Joe schmo off Craigslist, you never know when something unforeseen will go wrong, and when it does, you'll be glad you went with the pros so you're not still chasing some private party around two weeks later trying to get your roof fixed. Bottom line, these guys are fantastic, I'll be having them out again very soon to take out another big hazard tree that we just discovered on the property. read more

I got a decent deal from them. They are hard to communicate with them, and when they were scheduled to come out, they were a no show and no one called. I had to contact them to hear they weren't going to be able to make it until the next day. Plus I was wanting to pay them cash when the job was done and I'm having troubles paying them.
