So just a quick background about myself I've been out of the Army for some time and got out because I was medically discharged. I've since have had so many residual things that have happened to my body because I was so gung ho when I served. I'm paying for my hard way of life now and because of that, I have been trying to increase my VA rating from 80% to 100% since 2013. I served in the US Navy during Operation Desert Storm. I experienced non-combat stress and witnessed an accidental death during my time of service. In addition, I sustained some injuries which have caused serious problems today. Because I was young and gung-ho I never thought to seriously apply for VA Disability because I didn't serve downrange. Just like many veterans, we think we have to lose a limb for benefits. In 2018 I became homeless and entered a Veterans Homeless Shelter. I was required to get a physical at the VA. I have been rated since 2014 at 50%. In 2017 I went from 50% to 60%. The challenge with the first 2 rounds was that I was not in control and did not understand how the system worked. Champions for Veterans is an organization that helps those who have served to maneuver the Veterans Affairs system by providing the tools necessary to obtain the disability rating they don't know they have. The team is devoted to coaching and training veterans as they pursue the benefits they deserve from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
