Our son attended OPA August - October of 2024.
How can someone sleep at night knowing that they stole money from hard working families? Families that were trying to support this program with everything they had to offer. Our first game was at a stadium that had trash all over the bleachers. Omega Prep blamed the city but we were willing to go out on Saturdays and clean up the stadium so our players could look and feel as professional as the other few teams we played. Omega didn't have enough water for the kids and they were constantly asking parents to donate water, tents, tents we thought were for the players but it was the coaches and staff taking up the shade while the players sat on the ground on the sideline. Due to the lack of practice and strength training, the players simply were never ready to play. The so called coach t who doesn't even deserve to have a capital letter was unprofessional and embarrassing. All we heard were excuses about why there was no practice field or why games were being canceled. As for the housing, omega hadn't even put down the deposit on the rooms at Upointe, but showed up on move in day expecting to move in. Now the players had to stay in hotels. They never stayed in a hotel they weren't evicted from. How can these players focus on developing as men, academic success, and football development under someone who was not able to provide basic housing or meals? Players had to worry if or when they would eat or be evicted. That's mental torture. Some of these players like our son had trained and conditioned all Summer long, excited to attend omega prep. That fire was put out quickly thanks to the poor mismanagement of the program by coach t and his wife! As my wife was calling around the area to different parks trying to find somewhere for these kids to practice this man, according to the players and hotel manager spent most of the day sitting in his room. So it seemed like parents were working harder for the program than omega prep was. That is when I realized we were being conned.
The kids started complaining about not eating on time or at all. For example, omega prep would put in the group chat the kids were eating pizza for dinner when in fact dinner was just popcorn. coach t's son was the "chef" for about 6 weeks or so and the food wasn't nearly enough or good according to most players. We still have the text message showing how one of the players asked when they would have lunch because 4pm had rolled around and they hadn't eaten since breakfast. The response from omega prep staff was "man stop that sh!t. U ain't that d@mn hungry and if so go drink some d@mn water...like u don't know how to take care of y'all self bruh stop that baby sh!t too old for that." Sickening. Many players were here from other states with no transportation and shared how being part of omega prep felt like prison. A player shared that coach t told them from his own mouth that he did time in prison.
They were not practicing and barely had ACT prep or academic tutoring. His wife, a teacher and member of Delta Sigma Theta a sorority representing scholarship of all things, just wasn't showing up for the players consistently. They missed days sometimes a week with no academic support. My wife had to go find another ACT tutor since our son was signed up to test on 10/27/24 and the support was so inconsistent we just could not rely on them.
I realize a young man who was homeless or felt all they had was omega prep academy may feel a toxic bond with this couple. They play on emotions and play with the spirituality. Also, those so called scholarship for $10,000 from Miles College in Alabama, are really available to almost anyone! Our son was offered the exact same scholarship from that school and he just submitted an application. He did not go through omega prep or even mention football on his application. They are taking advantage of people who just don't know. If you're homeless and someone throws you into a hotel, sure you would be grateful to have a roof over your head BUT the problem is we didn't sign up to support any of this and that doesn't excuse anything they did to innocent paying families who sacrificed more than omega prep will ever know or care about to send their sons to this program. We paid what was asked of us and didn't get a 1/8 of what we were promised. read more
