While not the usual type of business that Yelpers check out and review, I've (for good or bad) had to use a few notaries in my day, and each time it has not been fun. Taking a long lunch, waiting at a bank. Going to them. In short: It usually sucks. Then, my mom (who is a real estate agent) suggested Cathy at Champion. Cathy came to my apartment at 9:30 at night and we went through and signed everything on an investment property. We had a very negative experience with Cathy. We scheduled an appointment for the next day at 11am. Called her that morning to cancel, an hour ahead of time, due to the fact that the lawyers had not finished reviewing the documents and did not recommend signing until the review was complete. Cathy was very unpleasant on the phone when I called to cancel and kept asking if there was another document that needed to be notarized.... I'm sorry, NO, we don't have RANDOM documents hanging around the office waiting to be notarized. She then informed me that she had to turn down another appointment in order to take ours, so she would be charging us a cancellation fee. Really??? I scheduled her the evening before, I'm sure if the other person needed a notary, they could have scheduled outside of the 30 minutes we had the appointment for.... I seriously doubt that she missed the business entirely. Then, the attack of the cancellation charge invoice came. DAILY, I got emails, faxes and even SNAIL MAIL saying we owed her $45. God, lady, it's $45. When we didn't immediately pay....we continued to get notices almost daily... and then the threats came for small claims court... omg. REALLY? Small claims court for $45?? We finally paid the ridiculous cancellation fee, but will NEVER use her again, and would highly recommend against using her, unless you enjoy ridiculous cancellation fees and endless harassment. read more
