She might come across as rude because she does not sugar coat what she says. I like her professionalism. She is honest and will inform you straight up if the color you want is doable or not. Yana will not just color your hair for money, she cares about the health of your hair, so if you want your black hair to become golden or blond (lifted so much) during your first session, then you are at the wrong salon. There is a process for that and you must trust the process. She also gives you advice and tips on how to care for your hair. With every session, I always learned something about hair (not only hair, other topics too). I enjoyed my conversations with her as they are intellectual. I love my hair. She listens to my requests. Overall, I finally got the color I want, that's after at least two sessions with her. At the third session, I could already see the color I have been wanting, it perfect but on the way. On my fourth session, I was truly happy. By the way, make sure to wear something warm in the winter because this place has high ceiling, meaning even with heater on, it will still be cold (well I'm always cold but it's good to have layers) - remember, hot air stays up.

Her packages were pretty fair in pricing, I thought, compared to some other places I looked at, and she was so easy-going and fun to work with! I got a free trial included in my package and we had quite a lot of fun playing around. Even though Penney lives a little farther out part Martinez, I think it was worth it as many MUAs also charge you another couple hundred dollars just for a trial. I also used the trial makeup/hair to do an engagement shoot, and Penney even let me borrow the hair extensions she had tried on me for the shoot! It was seriously so nice of her. And some of the other places I researched would strongly recommend not using your trial for photos and charging you another fee to do engagement shoot makeup. It's honestly absurd and Penney is no-fuss, no games, down-to-earth, which I appreciated. I won't lie, a big part of why I chose Penney was also because she IS Asian and I wanted someone who knew Asian faces to do my make up. I'm sure non-Asian people can do Asian makeup just as good, but I have trust issues...so sue me! The makeup stayed intact all day (hot June wedding) and the best part was getting a good friend out of all of this! :) I'd highly recommend having her do your hair/makeup!

Angel's personality matches Vanessa's, sweet, friendly, and cheerful. Vanessa is a warm, mellow, flexible stylist who, unlike every other stylist in the world, never has a bad hair styling day. She does what you want--not her ego. This time I asked her to do what she wanted and she came up with another new carefree cut that is flattering. She is open to working with your schedule with a positive and sweet personality to add icing to the cake. She is usually off work on Sunday and Monday, but might even be open to an exception. She doesn't charge an arm and a leg either, has kept her charges the same for years. It doesn't get any better than her. She works with all kinds of hair, all genders. I recommend her highly.
