Ask the Community - Chamberlain University

Is this accredited nursing school? My husband is in the Air Force and I would like to know if in any case that we get relocated, am I going to be able to transfer my credits in another state?

Hi Allyza! Yes. Chamberlain University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (www.hlcommission.org), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.…

Is the nursing program accredited I know the school is but I looked up the program for the associate an bachelors an it say loss of accreditation was in 2012 due to the school voluntarily withdrawing?

So I attended a two day meeting in the conference room of this building. I have to say as a nurse…read more(I didn't attend UC Davis or any school in the UC system) this was a very nice building. You could tell that it was relatively new based on the structure. Besides the conference rooms there were rooms for nursing labs, which for those of you who haven't had the pleasure of attending nursing school, they're designed to give you somewhat of a realistic experience of what you might encounter while in an actual clinical setting dealing with patients/families/other providers. The facility was clean, temperature control was just fine, I wasn't hot nor was I freezing while in my meeting. In the conference room we were housed in its set up in sort of a pod formation where people sit in smaller groups of tables. One of the faculty from the university did have a specific term used for it but I don't recall what they called it. I was very impressed with the facility itself and the staff where also very helpful.

Higher education in the U.S. can be incredibly expensive. It's possible you may not choose UCD…read moreconsidering the price tag. Some of their programs are heavily supported by grants and scholarships, making them affordable. The education I received in my masters program at BIMSON hasn't been perfect- it's kind of a one-size-fits-all approach with not a huge selection of electives. BUT generally speaking, the content is top notch and the professors are engaging, well prepared, and highly qualified. Sure, I took classes I wasn't especially interested in. But now, in my new career role, I'm well prepared because of each class in the MS-L program. Writing a yelp review seems like an oddball way to review a school or program, and I stumbled onto this accidentally while looking for something else related to BIMSON. When I saw the extremely negative review below, I felt inspired to balance out the low star count. I feel grateful to be a student at UCD, regardless of its few flaws.

I graduated from this school April 2013. There is a lot to consider before you attend this…read moreschool. For example, this school is very challenging and you're going to have to work very hard to get through it. Only sign up to come here if you really want to be a successful RT. With that being said, I met some great people here. The staff all had encouraging things to say to me when I was getting discouraged during my job hunting. That really meant a lot to me because I was getting hopeless, not to mention anticipating school loan bills. About 5 months later, I finally found a RT job. After you graduate, don't expect jobs to fall out of the sky. You're going to have to hit the grind, build a million portfolios, and network like crazy. In addition to that, this school has an amazing career advisor and I still get compliments to this day on my resume. I give this school a five because they truly did give me the tools to be successful, but they also were realistic and gave me the confidence to face the daunting task of job hunting. Encouraging staff is something that you can't put a price on.

Run for the hills! If I could give this school less than 1 star, I would. My experience with the RT…read moreprogram and RT program director Ms. Elma Dos Santos would cause any sane person to lose their sanity. I have repeatedly raised concerns about what I believe has been inconsistent treatment, grading practices, communication, and disciplinary decisions. Instead of feeling like a student who's concerns were taken seriously, I've been constantly ignored my the Dean, the school's discrimination team, and any other higher ups for the RT program. Prepare for the instructors to create an environment that feels less than pleasant, and certainly not respectful. We pay to go to this school, and they treat us like we are in the military. Hair up, uniform on point, 4 hour classes where you'd be lucky if you get allowed a 10 minute break. Rules are enforced differently based on if Elma Dos Santos likes you or not. Some students are able to slide by if they do a little butt-kissing, those who prefer to stand with integrity are usually punished. I am proud to say I am one of those students. And then came the bathroom situation. Both campus restrooms were unavailable due to being serviced, so students were told to "just wait." A few students, myself included, left to go across the street and relieve ourselves. If you can believe this, when we came back to the classroom we were told to "sing & dance" in front of our peers to prevent having our professionalism points deducted for being late back from break. I said no, that I refuse to be humiliated in front of my entire cohort, & my points were taken away dropping my grade significantly; I went from an A in the class to a C. Is this not a form of hazing? And it's the instructors wanting us to do this which is the worst part. If I could go back in time, I never would have chose Carrington College/SJVC Rancho Cordova. Some of the staff are cool, and truly do care about education and the students. Stephanie, the admissions counselor is amazing. Mr. Wallace is kind and knowledgeable and loves what he does, Mrs. Crabtree who is no longer there, was amazing. However the RT program director, Ms. Dos Santos, is a walking bag of spite. If you are not prepared to bow down to her, she will make sure to make your experience there hell. I have a written statement from a Term 5 student that she told my peers that I am "no good" and "a spoiled brat" and she also made false allegations against me that I work in the "adult entertainment industry"... this is a 60 year old woman... so just keep that in mind! If you're considering enrolling here, first of all don't. But if you insist, be prepared to ask lots of questions, practically be begging for clarification on the grading policies, and be prepared to be treated like a prisoner of war, not someone who aims to better themselves. Apparently surviving the RT program requires learning 2 things... how to manage a ventilator and how to manage an administrative paper trail. You have been warned!
