Chalone tasting room!
Lola S.

Excellent opportunity to taste fabulous wine. It was a cozy environment with great music, customer service, and deep knowledge of the wines.

Amazing and kind service, I showed up already because of traffic but they told me I'm right on time. Very kind. Our service was kind and so knowledgeable about the wine! Carson deserves a raise!!!! The setting was beautiful and comfortable ;) would recommend! It was a great pre dinner wine tasting for my boyfriend's birthday!

The new Chalone Tasting Room in Carmel is a welcome addition to Carmel-by-the-sea. Part of the Foley Family of wines, this addition adds some unique standouts to their portfolio, particularly their Syrah and their Grenache from the Chalone Appellation. The tasting room interior is beautifully decorated and the custom furniture used inside to fit the space makes everything feel very well thought out and intentional. The tasting room manager Stacey is a wealth of knowledge and exudes passion for the brand as well as all the staff that make up Chalone Vineyards. Brian assisted us during our visit and is enthusiastic about the wines he was able to share with us and is really knowledgeable about the wide offerings available in the tasting room as well as the wines available as part of the wine club. This place is a must-visit spot if you're wine tasting in Carmel-by-the-sea.

My husband and I had an opportunity to visit the new Chalone Tasting Room in the Carmel Plaza this last Saturday. They just opened this past November in the space recently vacated by Hahn. Chalone is owned by the Foley Family Group whose portfolio also includes Chalk Hill, Ferrari-Carano, Silverado among many others from CA, the Pacific Northwest, New Zealand and even France and Argentina. First impressions - the wine room hasn't changed too much since the days of Hahn with the exception of furniture and artwork. It's still light and airy with a modern feel. There are comfortable couches/sitting areas as well as tables set up for people to relax and enjoy. They even had a fire on this chilly January day. We were greeted warmly by Brian, who conducted our tasting. We started with a lovely Rose of Grenache. While I'm generally not a huge fan of Rose, this one was quite nice. We also tasted the Pinot Blanc, both the Chardonnay Musque (stainless steel) and the Chardonnay Reserve (oaked), the Grenache, the GSM and the Syrah. Our tasting ended with a special pour of the 2015 Silverado Solo, a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Stags Leap District. If I had to pick favorites, the Solo was top of my list as I typically love heavier reds. However, along with that we also took home a bottle of the Rose of Grenache, the Pinot Blanc and the Syrah. Brian did a wonderful job sharing his knowledge of the vineyards and the wines. It was quite the lovely experience and I would definitely recommend a stop.

We stopped off here to try some wines. My husband had never been wine tasting. ( I know!!! It's a wonder we even got together.) Brian was our wine expert for the afternoon. He was helping someone at the counter when we walked in and still was able to recognize us as welcome us in. We had our dogs with us, as usual. He was very gracious answering our questions and helping the hubs understand different grapes. I read some other reviews about service here...you want Brian!! He's 5 star service.

The wines are okay (we ended up not buying any of them), but the experience itself is very nice, tucked up into the hills at the base of Pinnacles National Park, especially when sipping your wine out on the balcony with perfect warm, sunny weather tempered by a cool breeze. The chardonnay from here apparently won 3rd place at the famous Judgment of Paris, but we didn't find any of the wines here anything to particularly write home about. Still, they were enjoyable to sip and the overall experience was quite worthwhile, especially as a wind-down activity to relax after doing some hiking!

My GF decided to do a tasting and I usually just take a sip off her tasting. My pallet seems to like the more expensive wine. Not by choice I just like smooth alcohol. We must have tried over 10 different wine and Johnathan made it so enjoyable and even gave names to some wine. So 10 tasting later my GF walked out with a membership and 6 bottles of wine. My GF like the one Johnathan called Sean Connery so much! I purchased that for her as late birthday gift. Come all and try this place out and give Johnathan a holler! The tasting room itself is on the smaller side, with a stylish, cozy interior with TVs and private tables. I happened to stop by at a quiet time and was seated comfortably at the bar. The gentleman who helped me was relatively new, but you wouldn't have known it since he was incredibly knowledgeable and well-spoken, providing detailed descriptions of each wine on my tasting flight and answering all my questions without hesitation. I enjoyed the wines enough that I ended up purchasing a couple of bottles once I learned they could conveniently ship them to me. My only disappointment was that some of the higher-end wines weren't available to sample, which made it harder to justify buying a $100+ bottle without trying it first. That said, I completely understand the policy (but I definitely could have been sold on one if I could sample it and it was great). So far, I've visited three tasting rooms in the area, and Albatross Ridge might just be my favorite. Great service, delicious wines, and a relaxed vibe. It's definitely worth a visit.

We visited there on the recommendation from a sommelier in Paso Robles based on their excellent sparkling wines. You have choice of ordering a glass of any of the wines or the tasting flight. My partner decided to go with a glass of the Brut Rose whilst I chose the tasting flight (5 wines for $40). All of the wines here are expertly made and of a beautiful style. I can't say there wasn't a wine here that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. The Brut Rose is a beautiful champagne style rose. The Rose of Pinot Noir was also excellent. A fantastic light yet flavorful wine. The chardonnay was also excellent and of a beautiful style with just a touch of oak. Next was their Passetoutgrain, which is a blend of gamay noir and pinot noir. Also in the tasting were two pinot noirs, the base pinot noir and the El Bec. Both were beautiful expressions of pinot noir. Wonderful balance of fruit, earth and spice. Finally, we had to try the Brut Cuvee, which is only offered by the glass. A truly beautiful wine reminiscent of the Champagne region. Service was from a couple of friendly and very knowledgeable attendants. The glassware here is beautiful and perfect for the wine served. The wines were all served at the proper temperature. And the pours were of a generous volume such that you could fully experience the wines. If you're in Carmel, you owe it to yourself to visit Caraccioli.

The tasting room is absolutely wonderful--intimate, cozy, and beautifully designed with a sleek, modern cellar vibe. The striking Perota wood bar, warm ambient lighting, and inviting seating options make you feel right at home while sipping on their elegant sparkling wines and exceptional Pinot Noirs. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate, turning every tasting into a memorable experience. Whether you're a bubbly lover or exploring their still wines, the quality shines through with every pour. It's the perfect sophisticated yet relaxed spot right in the heart of downtown Carmel. What truly stood out to us was how generously Caraccioli Cellars supported our Signature Day Spa during our recent ribbon-cutting celebration for the stunning new location in Carmel Plaza. They went above and beyond to help make the event so special and successful--what an amazing community partner! The turnout was incredible, and their involvement added that extra touch of elegance and warmth. Thank you so much, Caraccioli Cellars team! We can't recommend your tasting room highly enough, and we're so grateful for your kindness and support. We'll be back soon for more of those delicious wines--and maybe a spa day paired with a bottle to take home. Cheers! -- Tonya & the Signature Day Spa Team

We went in with pretty high hopes but ended up feeling underwhelmed by the offerings. A lot of the wines tasted watered down, mild, and somewhat similar to one another. This was true for both the reds and the whites. The charcuterie and cheese pairing was also disappointing, especially when compared to Napa, where tastings often feature thoughtfully curated cheeses and meats paired with each wine. That said, the staff were very kind and informative. They explained each wine carefully and in an engaging way, which definitely helped make the experience enjoyable overall. Ultimately, though, the wines themselves were underwhelming and none of them really WOW'd us. They also felt a bit overpriced per bottle (~75$) especially considering you can easily find excellent wines at Napa vineyards for a better value.

That said, I was shocked and disappointed to learn that the tasting room will be closing in March and apparently the Talbot wine production facility on River Road has already been shuttered. All of this is due to the acquisition of the brand by Gallo wines, coupled with a down turn in the wine industry. As a consumer, this really pisses me off. Yet another example of a larger business buying and closing down the competition, thereby taking away another option for the consumer as well as eliminating the experience and enjoyment of a quality wine. I HATE GALLO FOR THIS!!
