Imagine having a beer seating outside while listening to the river. It is close to an old church with a small old cemetery, for some this could be creepy, but to me it was a bonus. We didn't walk too much, but the little town was beautiful with very narrow streets and some old houses. If I could, I think I would retire there :-)

There's a really cool horse drawn boat tour that you can take which is just a short walk from the hotel. The rooms are nice and there are huge windows that open up so you can enjoy the fresh air. The wifi service isn't great. We couldn't get the signal in our room at all during our stay. They do have several chairs and a nice couch in the lobby where you can enjoy the free wifi. They offer a delicious cooked breakfast with both hot and cold options, and coffee & tea. There is a really nice riverside patio where you can relax and enjoy a nice beverage. I heard that this hotel is haunted with ghosts but I didn't experience anything strange during my stay, thankfully!!

Some stuff won't change however like the location! This town is an adorable quaint village that you could get lost in for a few days! It is a short drive from the aqueduct which is a beautiful site to see. The hotel itself was in need of some repair and our room was clean but very old so hopefully the spruce up will be perfect. They have a little car park across the street and we luckily got a spot. The hotel is walking distance of a bunch of shops and restaurants. There is a beautiful home that you can see in this town that I will review separately and while this hotel is walking distance from it, the walk is all uphill so it is a nice little hike! We ate dinner here as well and it was good but not great. The food could use a little seasoning. The server was very nice however and it was great to hear about her experience in town as she was new to the area and was excited to share the gems she had found with us. Most things in the town did close fairly early so eating at the hotel was necessary that night but I would love to try some of the other local places next time.

In the restaurant though, I asked for fresh food, in a polite way, and later the totally unprofessional manager told me the waitress had been "crying" because of how mean I had been to her. This was absolutely untrue! I was slightly brusque (having not been able to sleep a wink in the bed they provided) When I left a scathing review, the manager not only berated me, and accused me laughably of "defamation" (oh so he's a lawyer now? He was dressed like a P.E. teacher) He also released personal ID details of me in his reply. This is called "doxxing" - I will naturally not do that to him in return, because I am a professional who expects good service, not an amateur. Don't go here.

The night porter on duty then hilariously moved us to an extravagant bridal suite which almost made up for it. Breakfast was average, but check-out was very slow as we were left waiting for around 15 minutes for someone to return to manning reception.

Checking in was painless and the staff pleasant. Room is typical European traditional logging, which amounts to a smallish room and no frills. Bd is soft and comfy, with the bathroom small and functional. Drinks in the lobby bar were great. They have 18 or so selections of gin (mulberry, rhubarb, dandelion and traditional). Drinks were cheap, with their single gin & tonic at £4 and doubles at £6. Very well presented and tasty. Dinner in the dining room was again a pleasant experience. Appetizer of creamy mushrooms on ciabatta with crumbled Stilton was wonderful. Wife had the steak & ale pie. I had the salmon with potatoes and asparagus. Both dishes were grand. Very tasty and well presented. Loved the quaint atmosphere of The Hand Hotel. Plus, there is the Chirk Castle just a bit away to occupy your day.

From the beer taps it does look like they might occasionally reach 3 beers and I did witness reinforcements arriving in the shape of an enormous Robinsons truck!
