First off, I rarely post reviews, but people need to know about this one. My Nissan Juke broke down in Evanston Wyoming and this shop had the best reviews so I had it towed there. The receptionist lady told me that the entire engine needed to be replaced and that I could either pay them $10,000 for them to fix it, or just scrap the car and get something new. I spoke to Chad, the automotive technician and he told me he ran a compression test to confirm and that my car was only giving 30 pounds instead of the expected 160 pounds, and confirmed that it did indeed need a full new engine. He said I was looking at several months for them to be able to order the parts and the engine, wait for shipping, and complete the installation. I still owed $10,000 on my car since I was financing it and I had only driven it 22,000 miles in my entire 4 year ownership of it, so it was hard for me to believe that it needed a full new engine. I gave them my auto warranty company information and Chad told me he would reach out to them on Friday, but when I spoke to the receptionist lady on Tuesday for an update, she got super defensive and told me that she has a hard time believing that Chad told me he would contact my warrantee company because he doesn't submit claims to warranty companies. She said she needed to order all of the parts brand new so that they would be covered by their own warranty. Something felt very off so I called AAA, and I had my car towed to Auto Pro in Utah. The mechanic there was able to fix my car same day and it only really needed new spark plugs. I sold my car to Carvana the very next day, and they said there were no mechanical issues at all when they did their full inspection. Chad's Automotive was clearly trying to take advantage of me (maybe because they're in Evanston and don't get a lot of business, or maybe I'm a woman and don't know much about cars?). Just sharing my experience, proceed with caution and make sure you get a second opinion. If you have AAA premium, they will tow your car for free to someone more reliable. read more

We stopped by Chads Automotive with my best bud Ken in a 1998 Ford Ranger that he is delivering to his daughter in New Jersey. Well, long story short, the thermostat was wonking out and we wanted to have it looked at. Chad was backed up for a week but said he'd take a quick look at it. Well he fiddled with some hoses and switches, answered all of our questions, told us to track the engine oil and assessed that we were probably good to go. He gave us a grin and said "I'd go for it". So, 15 minutes later we are rolling down the road with our fingers crossed and incredibly grateful to Chad for taking some time out of his busy schedule to help out a few dudes...Seriously, it's all about the humanity man. Update from 1,000 miles later: the truck is running great and we have not had any more troubles with the thermostat. Also it appears that Chad secretly fixed the heater and seatbelt alarm. I had a the power steering line go out my way to drive an f250 from Washington to My son in Mississippi. I happen to end up at a Pilot station. My son looked up mechanics in Evanston and found Chad. I called AAA for a tow and realized I was just one parking lot next door to Chad's. I was able to limp the truck there. They were closed so I parked in their lot and caught them first thing in the morning. He was able squeeze me in between appointments , fix the hose and get me back on the road before noon! As a long time resident of Evanston, I was referred to chads and immediately was met with a rude disrespectful receptionist who was unwilling to hear our car issues, she immediately started reeming us on how tired she is of people calling and and "thinking" they know what's wrong with their car. First off , WE are the customer, why not just schedule us in instead scolding us like your child. So Chads just lost a potential customer and now any further referrals. Evanston is a small town and this lady is making a bad name for Chads with probably the worst customer service I have received in my life. Took a month and a half to fix my husband's truck. We made plans around when we got it back but can't because they ordered the wrong part three times. Said it'd be done in a week at first. Two weeks we had to check in and they said they hadn't ordered the part. Each time we called to ask about the truck it was we just had technicians quit or we had to let the technicians go but promised to get it done soon. When we said we needed the truck they said it'd run fine and it didn't. 0/10 don't go here if you value your car, truck or vehicle. ​they'll make mistakes and only take 100 off a part for lying to you. I needed to have my car checked out after it was running hot on a cross-country trip. I was able to get in the following morning as soon as I made contact. Chad checked everything out and gave the car a clean bill of health along with thorough instructions on how to drive in the heat with a heavier than usual load. It's been two more days and everything is running perfectly. I have been following his instructions. I was not charged in my case. I would highly recommend Chad's! Thank you Chad!! read more

Traveling from Nevada to Tennessee didn't start all that well. Broke down in Evanston Wyoming. Advised by the service writer at Chevy, I called Chads. They were booked but she felt sorry for me and squeezed my truck in first thing in the morning. Fixed it by early afternoon, went above and beyond my expectations!!! On a cross-country trip from CA to Michigan, we broke down in Wyoming and literally called every mechanic in town. Chad's name was mentioned by more than one mechanic when we asked ... who can help us? Chad's wife let us make an appointment tomorrow morning. Jim's towing towed our RV and as soon as we arrived at Chad's he started working on the vehicle. We just had work done in Park City and they basically laughed at me when I said it was the alternator. (I'm going to write them a review as well). Chad discovered our battery wasn't grounded and added a grounding strap which seemed to do the trick. He also suggested we change out the starter - being an O'reily's registered mechanic that meant we didn't have to pay for the service since we bought the part at O'reilys. Chad spent a lot of time with us... at first I thought, he shouldn't be talking to us, but every time I said, don't you need to be working, he said "it's done!" The only thing I regret is not changing out the alternator (the next day it would go out on us). The only way to really see if it's the alternator is to check battery levels while starting (since we had put in a new battery, he probably couldn't see the number go down, because the battery was so new). If you are broken down in this town - I highly recommend Chad and his wife. Why they didn't catch the alternator... they did catch the ground strap. If you see their dog tied up, don't be afraid of it.. it's the sweetest, most loving dog I have ever seen. I would give zero stars if this app would let me. I do not recommend. I took my truck in because it wasn't starting and it would start if I tried to start a couple times or I disconnected and reconnected the battery. It was also going into limp mode and then come out of it while driving. The gauges would jump around sometimes and sometimes not as driving. Sometimes I could drive the truck with no gauges functioning. It was also losing communication to half of the systems on the vehicle. I had purchased a new ECM that needed flashed because it kept losing communication to the ECM. They were aware that it was in the front seat of the truck. The conclusion they came to was it was the positive battery cable was corroded because Chevy put out a service bulletin about the cable becoming corroded and this would fix my problem. I said what happens if it doesn't and I was told it would, but if it didn't they would address it then. The next morning the truck did not start. I called and was instructed not to start it, not to move it because they would send a tech out to the house. They did and determined once again it lost communication to half of the systems on the truck. At this point, I was informed not to drive it and not to start it because they needed it to be in this state to test it and I should pay for a tow because the cost of the tow was worth it so they could test it in this state. I reluctantly agreed because I was assured they were going test it. They said they pulled it into the garage with the four wheeler and it started right up. I was told that "it must have gotten jostled on the truck and that's why it started so it's not likely my ECM." I was also told I was responsible for the tow. I responded that you were going to run tests on it and you didn't, you started it when I wasn't allowed to which is why I was told it was to be towed. And you had been told sometimes it will start even after it doesn't. I was still made responsible for the tow. It never did not start again while in their possession. But I was informed I wasn't charged for the tech coming out to the house! The part he replaced didn't solve the problem because it wasn't accurately diagnosed and that's what I took it in for! At this point, I was told if I really wanted he would put the ECM in. He quoted me $150 and the Buick dealership in Layton will charge me $80 and why would I give him more money when he didn't keep his word about testing my vehicle, but charged me for the tow. The next week I called and said this truck didnt start again twice today and once I was able to get it started by staying seated in it and turning the key a couple times so the truck never moved. At that point, I was informed that "Chad recommends you take it to the Chevy garage to get checked out." I paid $220 and my truck doesn't start consistently. I do not feel like he stands behind his work and I did not get anything for my money and he didn't resolve my problem. read more

Communication from the office staff was terrible and service to my vehicle was performed that I did not request. Two weeks prior to bringing my vehicle to Chad's Automotive I called to get a price quote for an oil change for my RV. I was specific that I wanted synthetic oil. A week later, when I made an appointment, I again noted my preference for synthetic. The day I brought my vehicle to their shop, I emphasized for a third time my desire for synthetic oil to be used. Shauna -- Chad's wife who works the front desk -- wrote down this information and noted that Chad would call me the following day if he had any questions. Yet, two days later -- having never received a call from anyone at Chad's Automotive -- when I called, Shauna informed me that they had done the oil change using conventional oil. I reminded Shauna that I'd requested synthetic oil each of the three times we spoke and she said the conventional oil was cheaper. I agreed that in the short term, the conventional oil was less expensive than synthetic, but over the long term, it likely isn't due to engine wear and related problems. Also, I reminded her that I had already stated that I would pay the cost difference and that she had agreed the service would be performed. I asked to speak to Chad, but was told he was gone from the shop and told that I should call back in two hours. When I called two hours later I was told that Chad had already gone home for the weekend. I went to Chad's Automotive and spoke with Tony, who was then in the office. Tony (who seemed like a good guy) told me he just "turns a wrench" and couldn't really do anything more. I asked Tony to call Chad to see if he'd discount the final bill due to the failures on their part and lack of communication. Chad advised him to knock off $5. Seriously. I told Tony I was disappointed at my interaction with those at Chad's Automotive -- especially as the other reviews for them here on Yelp are positive. Based on my experience, I suggest if you're in need of some auto work in/around Evanston, Wyoming, that you that you take your business elsewhere. read more

Our pickup motor blew about 30 miles outside of Evanston in June 2021. We were towed to Chad's and they dropped what they were working on to diagnose our situation, quoted an estimate, and allowed us to leave our cargo trailer on the property while we located a new engine. Chad fixed the pickup and charged us exactly what we were quoted even after a slight problem with the new motor. The whole staff treated us well and were ready with helpful suggestions while we waited the 10 days it took to get fixed. We would HIGHLY recommend Chad's Automotive to anyone! read more

Where to start. I had gotten stranded outside of Evanston driving from salt lake Utah. After sitting and waiting for help for 3 hours in the middle of no where I finally get my car into them. They PROMISED they would check EVERYTHING in the engine to make sure nothing else was wrong other than the radiator. Well I drive all the way back up to Evanston a few days later to pick it up. 20 minutes into my drive hoses were coming off and the radiator blew again. THEY DO NOT HOLD THEIR PROMISES! I was told everything was good to go and got stranded yet again without any help. I called them once I finally got it to SLC to get the warranty activated on the radiator they put in. Well now that warranty doesn't count to anything because THEY DIDNT CHECK EVERYTHING! OR ANYTHING OTHER THAN THW RADIATOR WHICH HE EVEN BASICALLYHE PUT ON WITH BAD CLAMPS. Well anyways because they didn't do as they promised and it ended up be my HEAD GASKET AGAIN YHEY DIDNT CHECK LIKE THEY PROMISED! AND EXPECT ME TO DEIVE THE RADIATOR BACK FOR 20 DOLLARS? FIRST OF ALL WITH WHAT CAR?! And how would that be worth the drivem SECOND OF ALL. DO THE JOB YOU SAY YOURE GOING TO DO. I was recently traveling through Wyoming when i heard a loud thumping sound from my car. I pulled off in Evanston and started calling auto shops. It was 5:45 pm on a Friday and no one would help me.... except for Chad. He graciously told me to stop by and we would take it for a test drive. Turned out the rubber strip at the top of the windshield had come loose in the heat. Chad fixed it and refused to accept any money. Who does that anymore?! I insisted on paying something and we settled on $20. I was amazed at his kindness and willingness to help me out in a bind. This guy is honest and will take care of you! Thanks Chad!!! read more
