Another one of those great second-hand game and video stores…read more This one, as the name of the shop suggests, specialises more in games, everything from your Wii's, PS3's & Xbox 360 to your Nintendo Ds, Gameboy Advance, and even retro PC and console games. They have a small selection of pre-owned consoles and controllers. Be prepared to be looking for quite a while if there is something specific you are after as everything is a little ramshakle The selection of DVD's is ok, with some good boxset and even some VHS's! I know... how very retro!

Whether it's racing cars, building virtual cities or leading teams of commandoes through the Middle East (propaganda anyone?) there's a game for everyone these days. Due to the high expense of many high street retailers, places like Game Scene have set up to provide more affordable, pre-loved numbers - and fair play to them. This shop is absolutely stacked from wall to wall with games for all sorts of consoles and devices. It's not really my forte so I can't specify which ones but judging by the huge array of colour and shape I'm guessing they're pretty well stocked. There's also a really good choice of DVDs to choose from, with some blockbusters for a mere quid or two. Game on.

It stocks a range of games and gaming equipment, from simple children's board games to more esoteric items for role-playing or adult games. It also has a range of books for D&D and RPG. Service here is knowledgeable and friendly, and it's easy to get into a long conversation about the item(s) you are buying and spend half an hour in there when you've only popped in for one thing. The range of games varies from time to time, so you can't always find something you've seen before, but ordering is usually possible. The shop is spacious and while items are not stacked in the most user-friendly way - a knack for reading sideways comes in handy - it means that a lot can be fitted in without making the shop feel cramped. Highly recommended whether you're a serious gamer or just looking for something to pass the time at a family get-together or children's party.

This store stocks a lot of games, dvds and pre-owned merchandise too and I think that they are all at affordable prices. I like this store because I am bound to find something that I like, which is in good condition and is at a reasonable price. The staff here are nice and helpful, they seem to know what stock they have in as I have often asked for particular games or dvds and they have always been able to tell me what they have available in the store. I think that this is quite handy as it saves me looking around for hour. Overall, I think this is a good little game store and recommend it to those in the local area.
The imaginatively named Console Games sells exactly what you'd expect; console video games…read more Surprising that, isn't it? After the recent demise of huge multinational chain Game, it's really nice to see that a local, independent video game store is still able to keep going strong, even with a not exactly optimum location. Having essentially a monopoly on video game selling in the area, Console Games could have been a real dive, something like someone born prior to the birth of video games probably imagines when they think of gamers congregating in one location. However, an impressive , life size figure in the window shows that Console Games are concerned with their appearance and want to put across that they're specialists in the area. Stocking a large number of second hand games, their prices are more than competitive; although I'm somewhat out of the loop when it comes to prices, I saw one Nintendo DS game selling for £5 that I'd seen in a (now-closed) Game store a couple of months ago going for triple that (also second hand). My one issue with Console Games is that, despite having good prices and, in addition to the games, an impressive library of pre-owned DVDs, none of them were in alphabetical order, meaning any potential bargains were virtually impossible to sniff out. Still, if you've got some time to kill, I'd recommend Console Games for trying to find a gem on the cheap.
