The imaginatively named Console Games sells exactly what you'd expect; console video games. Surprising that, isn't it? After the recent demise of huge multinational chain Game, it's really nice to see that a local, independent video game store is still able to keep going strong, even with a not exactly optimum location. Having essentially a monopoly on video game selling in the area, Console Games could have been a real dive, something like someone born prior to the birth of video games probably imagines when they think of gamers congregating in one location. However, an impressive , life size figure in the window shows that Console Games are concerned with their appearance and want to put across that they're specialists in the area. Stocking a large number of second hand games, their prices are more than competitive; although I'm somewhat out of the loop when it comes to prices, I saw one Nintendo DS game selling for £5 that I'd seen in a (now-closed) Game store a couple of months ago going for triple that (also second hand). My one issue with Console Games is that, despite having good prices and, in addition to the games, an impressive library of pre-owned DVDs, none of them were in alphabetical order, meaning any potential bargains were virtually impossible to sniff out. Still, if you've got some time to kill, I'd recommend Console Games for trying to find a gem on the cheap. read more
