HD2 Brighton

HD2 is a pretty cool little second hand DVD games and music store that is filled to bursting. Walk…read morein, and you feel swamped by boxes with the shelves tottering under the sheer volume of DVDs that line the place like wallpaper. Prices are also pretty reasonable, especially on CDs which are sold as 2 for 1 on anything. However, actually finding something you'd like to buy is slightly more of a challenge, as there doesn't seem to have been much organisation other than tenuous genres. Is Alien a horror or a Sci-fi? Either way, it may be here for a very good price for all I know, but I couldn't afford to spend two hours looking... There's a... unique and possibly pleasant vibe about the place too, with whoever is working here watching a film or two on a portable DVD player while you browse around, meaning you often overhear familiar lines from old films while you search the shelves.

HD2 is a second hand shop, specialising in DVDs, video games and music, just up St James Street on…read morethe way into Kemptown. As second-hand shops go, this is a viable alternative to a lot of the big chains around town, although the selection is a bit peculiar, and the presentation is somewhat lacking. Still, if you're looking for that one special DVD/video game/music that you can't find anywhere else, try here before resorting to Amazon. As second hand shops go, HD2 does exactly what it says on the can: buys and sells second hand media. There's loads of stuff on offer here, although the mix is somewhat strange. I guess the DVDs and music that ends up in second hand shops isn't always the most popular, but I couldn't find one band I knew on a 5 minute browse! Still, you might find a buried treasure in here, and I do mean buried: everything is piled on top of each other in a rather hodge-podge manner, and the filing system can, at best, be described as 'lazy'. Still, as second hand shops go, the atmosphere is the place does bring to mind the hidden den of some new media afficionnado, unlike the sterile colours of places like Game. However, is atmosphere worth more than being able to find what you want? I find it hard to directly recommend HD2, as it's impossible to find anything, and the chance of them having the one thing you're looking for is pretty remote. If you fancy a browse, the filing system makes it a bit of a nightmare to find anything that might even interest you in the slightest! Still, the kooky charm here is quite pleasant: worth a short visit at least.

The selection is okay, it isn't great, this is especially shown by a mobile phone section which seemed smaller than any Game store I've visited, which is probably down to Game offering really poor prices for mobile phones compared to recyclers like Mazuma Mobile. Example: I have an iPhone X 256gb which is unlocked. Game offer £405 Three and O2 offer £415 (with price match to Mazuma Mobile) Music Magpie offer £490 Mazuma Mobile Offer £515 As you can see there is a considerable difference between the Game price and the price offered by other retailers, which I feel is also having a knock-on effect on phones being traded in, the phones then sold here seemed to be at highly inflated prices. The selection for games was okay at best, there wasn't a console on deep which 99% of other GAME stores I've visited in the past from Manchester to Sheffield, and many more seem to have. 1* - Selection isn't up to scratch and the same can be said for trade-in and selling prices.

You'll find PS3 games, Xbox games, Pc games, games for the Wii and DS, as well as Ipods, consoles, console accessories, and some game walkthrough guides. The preowned games section here is ok, and as in other Game stores, you'll find retro PC games available, with a special offer retailing them at 3 for £10. Staff are knowledgeable and professional.

Worst part though was the truly useless customer service when I contacted them to find out where the heck my stuff was. Confrontational, blame shifting and unable to even muster an apology or read my emails properly. I've spent €1,000s here in the past but they won't be getting a penny more from me. I know their discount is tempting but there are other retailers with similar discounts and WAY better attitudes.

And of course, that has direct repercussions on our household life. It means many hours walking by Games Workshop and Dark Sphere to pick up things for his army. It means many hours helping him paint tanks and aliens. It means bookshelves in our cramped apartment devoted to paints, men with little guns, and armored aliens. It means all of this to me. But of course so much more to my husband. With my husband's discovery of Dark Sphere, it means that he can now complete his army and get 25% off. Not only does that make him happy, that makes me happy too! Because that 25% in savings usually means treating me out to a nicely deserved weekly dinner for being a very tolerant wifey! (You can save 20% when dropping their shop, or 25% by ordering online, OR you can even order online and then pick up in their shop!) P.S. They're currently moving to a less crowded location! More gamey nerdiness on its way!

You'd think its nice central location in Brightons "alternative highstreet" would help, but sadly, there just isn't much on offer here... Addmittedly, it can take some time to grow a back catalogue of second hand games, and it does require people to sell back their wares for the range of stock to grow, but Astro just doesn't seem to be offering prices that tempt... I've been in here on numerous occasions, as prices often chop and change, and grabbing that gem requires you to spot it first, but every time I've been, I've left empty handed, and bitterly disappointed. Looking at the majority of games on the shelves here, you could buy them for new for less, get the guarantee of a warranty and enjoy a free gift... Its a bit of a rip off, which is the exact opposite of what a second hand store should be. Maybe Astro will get better with time, but for now, its nothing to right home about.

This is a little gem. Although it is a games shop where you can buy playstation and various other…read moregames it is also a great place for a birthday party. I have an 8 year old who wanted a party there. Basically for £15 a head you get 10 children maximum that take over the shop - they shut the shop for this two hour period and you get to play on all the playstations, wii, xbox, etc and then there is a fun football challenge at the end with a prize for the over all winner. You get sausage and chips or something similar from the chip shop next door and the kids love it. The man who owns the shop is lovely and the guys he has working there are really helpful. The kids had a great time and that is the main thing.

DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR COMPUTER TO THIS SHOP FOR FIXING!!!…read more I took my sons computer for the HDMI port to be fixed. I was told on the phone that it would take two days and very straight forward. when I dropped it off it soon became known to me that he takes them to someone else to fix. This took a week unlike told on the phone two days. I collected it after a week and took it home. The HDMI was fixed, however it was now not playing discs as it had been the night before, I took it back to the shop. Richard would not take responsibility and even accused my son of not telling me it was originally broke. I had seen my son with my own eyes playing and he had received a trophy on the game the night before. Richard tried to say that you can play without a disk (anyone with a brain would know this is not possible because the game was not downloaded on the console). Due to me being female he tried to tell me that it is possible to play a game without the disc! Richard refused to fix the problem he had made and said I had to pay another £50 for it to be fixed. In total this cost me £125 for taking the console to this CON-ARTIST!!! When I got this home tonight my son noticed there have been three games used on his computer that he does not own! Richard was very rude on the phone and even tried to accuse my partner of being racist on the phone to him, unknown to him my partner is the same race and when i pointed this out he went very quiet. I have now found a reliable man who will fix your HDMI port for less money, less stress and guarantee not breaking it anymore. I just wish i had known about him before. He is situated at Mayplace, called Mathew and his contact number is 01322 522267. I would not recommend this man or shop for anything as he is capable of stealing parts from you console or using it in his shop while you think it is still being repaired. I have reported this to trading standards who are looking into this matter. please report to them if you have had similar experiences. I have since heard that this man does not have a good reputation and is known for never being open or returning calls. I would be very aware if you book a party and have to hand over a deposit. In case he is just not there on the day and your child like mine is left disappointed!!!
