Certified Mold Inspections (Steve Levy's company) was recommended by my allergist, who is one of the deans of environmental medicine in the NYC area. I have mold allergies and over the last year they'd been getting much worse, especially in our home, which is 100 years old. I decided I needed to deal with the problem so called Steve Levy. He was very generous with his time on the phone and clearly very knowledgeable. We discussed cost up front so I understood what my wife and I were getting into. Given our budget I realized we'd want to carefully prioritize which areas to be tested. Steve arrived punctually and thoroughly inspected the house from basement to top floor. The process took about two hours. He photographed each potential problem area. Some of the problems he found I wouldn't have noticed or thought to investigate, e.g. a cracked section of floor molding that had water damage behind it, and the wall behind and floor under our refrigerator. After the inspection we sat down and discussed what to do about testing. Steve was respectful of our budget limitations and worked with us to come up with a plan we could afford. The results showed high levels of multiple molds in the kitchen, which we intend to remediate. As I discovered after reading through the EPA website, mold testing is not standardized, but that doesn't mean that testing is without value. In order to hold a remediation company responsible for eliminating mold, you have to be able to prove that mold exists, and they also prefer to have a remediation plan from an inspection company, which is what Steve Levy and other others provide once they have test results. Whether or not the amount of mold in your home is unhealthy is ultimately something your body can tell you more than test results, though of course everyone is different. I knew our house was making me sick, and I'll know when the mold problem is gone. Fortunately NY State has a law requiring inspection and remediation to be done by separate entities. This law helps keep the inspectors honest, and as I stated, provides the remediators with mold levels they have to prove have been reduced or eliminated. Currently we're interviewing remediates to find the right one. I highly recommend Steve Levy and Certified Mold Inspections. Steve is a pleasure to work with: thorough, courteous, deeply knowledgeable about the inspection process and considerate of one's budget. He did extensive follow-up calls with me, which were very helpful. The base cost for inspection is not cheap, but given the number of hours Steve puts in between on site work, writing reports and follow-up calls, I think it's reasonable. Testing can get expensive, but can be controlled if wisely prioritized. Steve is one of the good guys. Hope this review is helpful to others. read more

I was so busy helping my neighbor pick up the pieces after the storm robbed her of her home that I did not notice that there was something present in my basement threatening to do the same to me. My neighbor was very disabled and had no place to go. I offered her a room in my house. It was the least I could do since she has been my neighbor for the last 10 years. I have to admit that I did not bother to check my basements after the flood because I was too afraid of what I would find. Unfortunately the overwhelming odor that the mold and mildew gave of was creeping through the cracks. 3/15/16 We called on a weekend evening when we discovered mold in a bedroom vent. They took the time to listen to us and were kind enough to look at a photo we sent. They did a very thorough and detailed inspection of the house, including the attic and the basement and explained everything in detail to us. The report that was promptly prepared after the testing was comprehensive and set forth a protocol for the mold remediation. After the work was done by another company, I had some concerns. They came over in 1/2 hour and discovered work that had been inadequately done. They actually took photos, sent them to the company that did the faulty work and arranged for them to come back to redo the attic. Many people in this industry know each other - and when I was getting estimates on the remedial work- when I mentioned Certified Mold Inpsections - everyone commented on the quality and thoroughness of their work.I would also add that all my email questions were also answered. They take great pride in their work and I would not hesitate to recommend them to those who are looking for the best. One has to be cautious in finding reputable people to do this kind of work. I had been consulting with Certified Mold Inspections for a few weeks before deciding to have Steve Levy inspect our house. Our home had major water damage and we started to notice a bad musty smell. Steve took the time to go over all the details with me and my family and we truly appreciated him taking all our calls and answering all our questions. He was extremely patient and kind. He explained all his fees up front and even suggested we take time to think it over before we hire him. We admire the fact that Steve does not do the remediation as he states it is a conflict of interest. Glad to know there are companies out there that still have integrity!! I can't say enough great things about Steve Levy! I had a different mold inspector come through my house and he didn't find any signs of active water damage. he really didn't look very hard! I knew something was going on so I decided to get 2nd opinion. Thank GOODNESS I did! Steve spend several hours looking around the outside and inside of my house. He found an active water leak from the roof and some issues with our HVACs. He is so knowledgeable and BEYOND helpful. Seriously if you think you have a water issue and/or mold - please DO NOT hesitate to call Steve- even if another company has told you your house is "fine".
